This was my second trip to San Pedro and my first time at Mata Rocks. What a wonderful place to stay! Staff was excellent, especially at the bar, The Squirrels Nest. After a day of sightseeing, you could always find a great group at the bar. I met many new friends. The hotel was just what I expected and more. It was quiet and safe. I would definitely stay at Mata Rocks again!

Top Local Tips for San Pedro

Tour operators In most cases you can book all your tours through your hotel. We had very good luck with the operator called Searious. We would recommend them to anyone.

Internet & grocery shopping there was a great internet cafe called Coco-net just one block in from the beach, fast speed, great price. Grocery prices varied, the absolute worse was the new huge store at the south end of the runway (Pink bldg) There were several other grocery stores in town (at least 3 fair sized ones and numerous mini marts so there was plenty of selection and much better prices. The snorkeling available is fantastic, we used Sea-rious 3 days in a row (Albert was fantastic when we could get him!!) and there are lots of other outfiltters to chose from as well.

Things I wish we had known. You don't need to take taxis or rent golf carts, the bikes and walking were fine! All my restaurant opinions are in my hotel review. Everybody takes U.S. dollars, you can go to ATM's. The people are very accomodating and nice. It is safe to walk along the beach, there are security guards at all the resorts. Don't bring any hair styling stuff-you won't use it-bring pony tail holders and sunblock. The local kids know all the best swimming spots- watch where they go! Don't get too close to the crocadiles and don't let tour guides rush you-odds are you don't live in a wonderful place like this and may not get to see such sights as often as they do. Remember it is your hard earned money!
