Where do I start??? If you want to hate your vacation, go to the Avalon Reef Club. DON'T BE FOOLED! We began to see how crappy this place is from the first night of our arrival. We got to our "room"(if that's what you want to call it), and several things already were unacceptable. The size was tiny at best, the water pressure was very irratic, the toilet flushed...sometimes, the bed was as hard as the rocks you see out of the window, there was no clock/radio in the room, and the lamp didn't work. Let's put it this way...the only good thing about the room is the window that had great views of the ocean and sky. The beaches were completely unusable, as they had this black slimy kelp all over them. It was simply disgusting. We had to travel around the island, looking for a real beach. The "food" was positively attrocious, and the "mixed drinks" tasted like they were mixed alright...with water!!! We had to eat our meals elsewhere every day/night, due to the lack of quality and execution in their cuisine. This really upset us because we paid for the "all-inclusive" plan, when the only thing edible were the hamburgers from room service, and the beer which is hard to water down when it comes from the tap. The staff service was absolutely horrible! I'm Cuban, but I appear to be caucasian, and they didn't know I spoke spanish. I would overhear the staff talking badly about customers...including us. After all this we had been experiencing at the Reef Club, we decided to take the ferry to cancun, because they have two other "resorts" there that honor the "all-inclusive" package we had. We went to the Avalon Baccara, and it was very nice, and the beaches were phenomenal! So, we then decided to try to get our reservation transfered to the Baccara for the remainder of our trip. We inquired at the front desk of the Baccara, and they assured us that it would not be a problem, and they would let the front desk at the reef club know what we wanted to do. Everything was good, and our mood seemed happier, until we got back to the Reef Club and noticed an immediate change in our treatment. We thought we had it bad before...HA! It's like they were offended that we weren't enjoying our stay there. They stopped pretending to be nice, and did not hide their true feelings for our last night there. They refused to cash any more of my Traveler's Cheques (to eat elsewhere, because the food sucked), when they would cash them every other day before that one. My wife totally went ballistic on the receptionist(who had a bad case of herpes at the time) at the front desk when she refused to cash our Traveler's Cheques. On top of that, they informed us that we would have to stay there for the rest of our trip! We felt miserable and helpless at that time. I decided to call my travel agency (bookit.com, who was awesome!), and they made the changes for us to stay at the Baccara for the rest of our trip. We weren't in the clear yet...The next morning we had security guards raid our room, and threaten to call the police on us if my wife raised her voice to the staff in the lobby again. I didn't know it was against the law to raise your voice. WATCH OUT FOR THESE PEOPLE IF YOU GO THERE!!! If you still end up booking this hotel after reading this, you deserve this and alot worse. Don't say I didn't tell you so. The island is beautiful and enchanting, and we will return there soon, but we will never return to the Avalon Reef Club!

Hidden Treasure restaurant is a true treasure For fine dining in romantic surroundings, you can't top this new restaurant. We ate their twice and the place was packed. It's about a mile south of central San Pedro.
Ramon's Village Ask for an ocean side accomodation with a kitchen. Complete with microwave, dishes, refrig., etc. You can have breakfast and lunch there on the balcony and save your dinners for the wonderful places around San Pedro.
