Needs a lot of work!

from gregiker
There were so many things about this setting that are absolutely perfect, and the potential is there, but a lot of work needs to be done.

The positives: the location was perfect. There could not be a better, more picturesque setting in paradise. It is secluded, but allows for being as social as you wish. The staff was overly friendly, and very easy to talk to and get to know. The food was great, reasonably priced and good quality. The rooms were large with plenty of room to spread out and had very good air conditioners.

The negatives: the phone did not work (which was promptly replaced), the hot water ran out quickly and the pipes must be rusted out.
Periodically the water ran from clear to absolutely orange/rust colored. One day the white towels in the bathroom came to us with a heavy rust tint. The satellite tv had constant problems (forgivable in such a remote place). The food service at dinner was unforgivably slow, so slow that we cancelled our New Year's Eve dinner reservations so we would not start the new year out irate. The floors were never swept in the rooms (lots of sand piled up) and the sliding door to the patio was almost impossible to open. The room overall was shabby -old bathrooom fixtures and lights, stained tile floor, nasty shower curtain, everything in need of a good cleaning and paint job. Overall, this property has great potential, but evidently they are not too concerned, as no one apologized for all of the problems when we complained at the front desk. They seemed to be on "island time" and they were actually painting one of the rooms the day our neighbors arrived. So much focus has been place on the lobby, restaurant, pool area, that none has been focused on the rooms, workout area, and plumbing, or service in the restaurant and rooms. Definitely a great beach getaway location, but the details need to be addressed before they can ask resort type prices. I hope they get their act together, because they could really take off!

They cancelled my wedding four days before!

This place is horrible. Avoid it at all costs. To make it simple: Four days before my wedding, Aurthur and Gregory called and canceled my wedding. Here are a couple quote in response to a meeting request(after weeks of phone calls, I have this recorded on my Voicemail!)Aurthur: "For 54 people you are the biggest pain my ***. If you don't like the service you are getting, take your event elsewhere"Which we did. We went next door to Hibiscus Beach Resot where they matched the rate. The rooms and general upkeep of the Hibiscus is way above that of Cormorant. It seems as though there are two threads to reviews of Cormorant:GAY: Loved it, did a great job with my committment ceremony.OTHER: hated it, bad service, avoid at all cost.EITHER WAY, do not go here. If you are looking for a Gay Focused/owned resort, try Sand Castle on the Beach. The new owner are great and the food is outstanding! Or choose Hibiscus, Caravelle, Divi, Carambola or Buccaneer. As a local, they really screwed the pooch. If you are looking for recommendations, please feel free to email me.

Friendly staff, but the place needs work. Beaches, landscaping and rooms must be updated and cleaned.

A fabulous stay at the Cormorant

from A TripAdvisor Member
My boyfriend and I just returned from a week at the Cormorant in July/August and our experience could not have been better. Everyone we encountered at the resort was helpful and pleasant--from Ben at the front desk, to the owners Arthur and Gregory, whom we spoke with on a couple of occasions. Julie (the manager) and Gregory were particularly helpful in setting up a jeep rental for us and assisted us in deciding where and what to explore on the island. They set up a wonderful snorkeling tour of Buck Island with some other guests we met at the resort. It was low season, so the number of guests was small. However, all the other guests we met were fun and friendly and enjoying their stay as much as we were.

While it's not a 5-star mega-resort, it's a nice, small, sea-side getaway. The rooms are large, with air conditioning that turns your room into a freezer--which was great coming in from the warm, humid air. Some things in the room and around the resort were a little worn, but it's completely understandable with the harsh ocean air. And they appear to be dealing with those areas that need attention.

We opted for the meal plan and it was well worth the extra money. The food was fantastic. Brian, the chef, created some delicious entrees nightly. The service was, at times, a little slow; but, the setting and relaxing atmosphere more than makes up for it. Besides, you're on vacation, who's in a hurry? Gregory and Arthur were concerned at the slow service one night; we weren't bothered by it in the slightest, but appreciated their concern.

It was a fun, relaxing week. We'll definitely be back next year and will be recommending it to all our friends. If you're looking for a smaller, intimate hotel where everyone pays attention to your needs, check out the Cormorant.

We loved the Cormorant

We were so anxious for our trip to the Cormorant Beach Club, and the whole experience was far more than we ever expected. The front desk, Pat, Julie and Ben could not have been more helpful. Willie at the bar as well as Cathy and Mike were great and the food was great. Keep up the good work Brian & Rush. The pool is so inviting and the beach had great snorkeling. We felt like we were family. We highly recommend the Cormorant Beach Club and we will be back.

Bad Service

from A TripAdvisor Member
My partner and I went to the Cormorant for our Honeymoon in June. It really has a lot going for it as far as being mostly couples and being very quiet. We were not looking for perfection in any way and were prepared to overlook a lot of problems, but found some to be inexcusable. The front desk people are pretty un-helpful and in a hurry to rush you off so they can get back to doing nothing. They do not communicate even the most basic information. We were caught off guard by the $40.00 taxi ride to the "included" snorkel trip. The wait staff is rude and slow. I was sick for days from the amount of mildew in the room. Also, be sure you know your package cost to the penny in advance of going. They added charges after we were back that we never agreed to and it has been difficult resolving them.

Great getaway spot in paradise

There really isn't anywhere else in the Carribean that caters to the gay clientele the way these people do, so the Cormorant is a wonderfully refreshing place to stay. No screaming kids running around, no one glaring at you if you and your partner hug in the pool, etc.
Beautiful bar and beach, although some of the structures are showing a little wear and tear from the sea and salt. Can't be helped I suppose, but it seems there is a constant effort to keep renovating and repairing. All things considered, it really is a great place to be yourself and enjoy sunny days at the pool, and warm breezy nights at the beautiful outdoor mahogany bar. Very helpful and friendly staff too. Did I mention the fabulous restaurant? Check it out.

Our day in paradise that lasted one week

from A TripAdvisor Member
We had the best time of our 8 years being together @ the Cormorant Beach Club. The staff was very friendly and always there for anything we needed. We chose the Cormorant Beach Club for our Committment Ceremony right on the beach. Everyone, including the owners were there to help us put it together within 24 hrs. of getting there. We truly felt like "family" there and will surely make another trip there very soon.

Fun and relaxing

I wanted a nice, affordable, welcoming place to get away with my gal! I was so happy with the Cormorant and how they embraced us and all our needs. As we arrived the staff took us to the open air tropical bar - a beautiful relaxing central area to view the resort and ocean with amazing frozen drinks and a fun staff. I felt like I was on a spa trip from the very beginning. The staff became our friends (giving us wonderul recommendations to the island) and we met wonderful people that we have kept in touch with online. The most amazing folks go there!!! The staff set up a dreamy sail and snorkle for us, massages, and it was Oscars week! They worked SO hard on an Oscar party in the bar and we all cheered on our favorites and drank to the stars that won (while we sat under the stars). Relaxing with the right amount of fun! You should check this place out!
