Do not go there!!
from A TripAdvisor MemberMy family and I had a total of three rooms. We all had problems with either roaches, ants, and water bugs. Plus at night we saw rats on the property. When we mentioned this problem to the staff, they acted surprised, as though they didn't know. Their idea of exterminating was a maintenance worker with a respirator and a spray can of insecticide. The pool in the villas was broken the whole time we were there. The main pool had about 20 lounge chairs scattered about, of which 70% were broken. They were always out of pool towels. There was hardly any security to be seen except up at the casino. The housekeeping staff was the worst, there was a broken glass bottle at the main walkway, which was never swept up. It's suppose to be under new management, well if this is the best they can do, I think they need to go back for additional training. Or get rid of this staff and start with a whole new team ( with better attitudes )
DO NOT GO TO THIS RESORT!! You'll regret it. After reading the glowing reviews from other pass visitors, are you sure we're talking about the same place? Or maybe they had too much too drink while they were there. I'm just totally disgusted with this place.
A Wonderful Place To Go!

from sjbst17I was unimpressed with St. Croix. I thought that much of it looked downtrodden and that the low income of much of the local population was generally apparent. But, the prices for products and services was definitely tourist. Time of year was last July, so July 2003. July is an off-season month for this destination.
Many of the most celebrated restaurants do not operate in the off season. Generally, the island is lacking in fine dining establishments.
You may even have to do some driving to get to the ones that are operating in the off season.
After quickly glossing over the reviews, I present the pros (+) and cons (-), ending on a positive note: +An advantage to the off-season was the relative privacy etc. The overall atmosphere in spite of the fact that there were some children was relaxing. + I want to emphasize that the staff was outstanding. All staff was consistently extremely hospitable and ensured that my stay was the most pleasant possible.
+There are some wonderful water & mountain views from restaurants/ balcony outdoor walkway + Rooms were sanitary/ clean and in good condition. Didn't care for decor, but hey - it's the Caribbean +There is a combination safe in room for valuables +Bar is always open (even in the morning)? Hotel sponsors drink specials. I found the bar to be very reasonably priced. Bar staff is super. They will make you fresh pina coladas w/ specialty local rum or get creative for you, should you ask! +On site hotel-sponsored activities include live entertainment, activities, informational.
-Question of personal preference but, Divi is in remote (I think, at least 30-45 mins from town center) location offset by the pleasant, expansive views of Caribbean waters/ mountains. Transportation is not readily available. Divi runs a shuttle, on a schedule to various destinations. Renting a vehicle is ideal in terms of convenience I cannot say about pricing. -During off-season, many restaurants on the island are not open. Main restaurant(s) at Divi were closed during most of our stay. I had brunch at the hotel every morning and the hotel served the exact same buffet in the morning every day: Breakfast links, bacon, scrambled eggs, potatoes, toast and the continental basics. - It was a somewhat brutal awakening for me that in St. Croix most meat(s) other than the local fish are flown in generally frozen and then defrosted for use. Even the finest restaurant probably won't have fresh rack of lamb. Keyword - fresh. One of the local foods is conch. Divi served a couple of conch dishes at buffet events. Main restaurant(s) at Divi were closed during most of our stay. -Anchor dive center located at Divi is a small satellite store for the most part. If taking classes, you can do your confined water examinations in the hotel pool, but to to be certified you will need to schedule transportation to charter location in town, where PADI instructor will meet up with you and take you out for open water exams. Non-motorized water sports equipment (such as kayaks?) is available for rent at hotel
Notes: -Two pools: I like the look of huge pools, main hotel pool is not huge -Hot tub by the main pool was not functioning. I could have been a lot happier had the hot tub been up and runnning. +-Good sized hotel, with attractive sprawling villas that compliment the hotel/ pool main +-The main lobby is large open-air space (three walls) +- The elegant looking casino is a five minute walk from hotel main. Divi operates the only (and therefore the largest...) casino on the island.
Casino bar does fairly brisk business. Hotel serves some basic fast food. +-St. Croix: Some fun bars, not a place for living large nightlife
Happy highlights other than snorkeling and diving, include a hermit crab race - sponsored by Divi. I entered a tiny, tiny baby hermit crab that my husband found on the beach, Lawrence. He didn't stand a chance!
Karaoke when I went was offered once a week, by the pool/open air bar.
I sang karaoke at evening entertainment at Divi once, my first time ever. After me, others seemed encouraged :) Many other guests performed as well. There was no pressure. The facilitator is also a singer, so no mind if no-one wants to embarass themselves. Excluding myself, we had some impressive talent. It was a pleasant night.

from A TripAdvisor MemberDivi ruined our honeymoon!! Awful!!!!!!!!
from A TripAdvisor MemberTo our dismay, when we arrived at the resort, the front desk staff were unfriendly and did not smile at us. We were expecting to be treated the way the employees at Maui Hill treat us, with respect and a big smile. Upon entering our room, we noticed several problems. 1)Our bedroom window would not open because it was broken. 2) Our glass top coffee table had a broken corner, leaving a sharp edge exposed. We let the staff know and figured we'd make the best of it.
Then we went down to relax in the hot tub, only to find it cold and dirty. The staff said they could heat if up for us, but we were not about to submerge ourselves in a cloudy pool of germs.
Our dissatisfaction continued when we realized that the DJ played music, poolside, from noon until around 8pm which was blaring so loudly that we were unable to carry on a conversation by the pool without yelling. We could even hear the music from our room, which was on the hillside across the street. Needless to say, we got as far away from the resort as often as we could.
To make things worse, we decided to get a cafe latte and an ice cream sundae since you had advertised this nice little cafe. Nobody was there. So we asked someone at the front desk.
They sent a girl down. She said, "Oh, they don't buy supplies for the espresso machine any more." Then when we tried to order sundaes, we learned that there were no supplies for those either. We were offered three flavors of freezer burned ice cream, which we regretted ordering.
We were going to attempt to have dinner at the formal restaurant at the Divi, but the air conditioning was turned down so low, we could not bear the cold temperature, and had to leave.
We did eat at the poolside barbeque our first night there, and the food was disgusting as well as overpriced.
When we tried to express our disappointment, nobody really seemed to care much. None of our concerns were addressed to our satisfaction. The DJ did turn his music down for a couple of hours, but it was right back up again every other day.
If the Divi Carina bay was in an area near other places to go and things to do, we could have escaped and had a better time, but since its location is so remote, we were really looking forward to enjoying our time there at the resort. We were unable to do this and were greatly disappointed in what was available nearby.
We did enjoy a wonderful diner at Villa Madeline and a great day on a boat out to Buck island, but honestly, our stay at the Divi Carina Bay, which was supposed to be the best vacation of ourlives, our honeymoon, was an absolute nightmare. We are still so disappointed to this day, and we hope that you are able to make some changes at this resort so that other couples will not have their honeymoon ruined as ours was.
In our opinion, the Divi Carina Bay Resort should be ranked amongst RCI's lowest budget motels, not amongst your gold crown resorts.
LOVED this place!

Jump Up If you happen to be on St. Croix during one of the four weekends a year they have a Jump Up definitely go check it out. It's essentially a street carnival with local food and Mokojumbies (dancers on stilts). I thought it was really fun and appreciated the woman at our hotel who mentioned it to me since they don't offer the information easily at the front desk.
Don't stay in Christensted after dark Please do not stay in Christensted after dark as it becomes dangerous(friend was robbed at gunpoint). Exercise caution and avoid carrying valuables to this location.
If restaurant of choice has just closed... So we found once that a restaurant that we really wanted to try only served lunch and they were just closing as we got there for an early dinner. Luckily for us, we asked someone who worked there for another restaraunt recomendation. The place we ended up dining at was amazing!!!! If you want to eat some authentic cuisine, I highly suggest asking a friendly local for suggestions.
