Top Local Tips for Charlotte Amalie
Departure frustrations Departing St Thomas is a unique experience to say the least. The ticket agents are unfreindly, and mostly unhelpful & diffiicult to understand. After check in you have to take your own baggage to baggage screening in 85 degree heat, then you must put everything through screening several more times before they finally allow you to walk through the metal detectors. The instructions are not clearly communicated, therefore there is much frustration by travelers towards the employees. Very surly and unpleasant attitude toward tourists
Taxis Make sure you have plenty of small change on you! I thought taxis were great, always plenty of them around at all hours! Cost does add up tho. Also a ggod place to go to eat is Lotus - fabulous food there and XO is a great place to go after if you fancy some nice chilled out live acoustic music, and great wines! We hit Duffys after - altho wasn't impressed with drunk under age teenagers. Oh well, guess I was doing that a few years (er hum) ago.
Duffy's love shack over priced and only take cash. not too exciting, but the "talk" of the town.
