Nothing short of EXCELLENT!

Kim and I (Mike) stayed at Bolongo from 1/17-1/23/04 and had a great time - the service, hospitality and location of Bolongo and its people are extraordinary. I had some reservations going in due to the few negative responses here on Trip Advisor, however, our experience turned out to be completely enjoyable and we plan to return in the future.

The staff was extremely friendly, accommodating and helpful. The beach was beautiful with snorkeling right in the "back yard". Activities were many and executed to perfection. Highlights were the day sail to St.
John and the sunset cruise (both on the Heavenly Days - thx to Aaron and Steph). The fitness center was nice, clean and nicely equipped to get some work-out with weights and/or a run on the steppers or treadmills.

The one thing I was particularly worried about before going was the quality of the rooms since some reviews stated they were "disappointing" and "outdated". Our experience was that the rooms were nice, clean and well equipped - much as expected for a casual beach atmosphere. Showers were standard stand-up style so complaints of being too small, IMO, are not warranted but I suppose some people may expect more. We thought the rooms to be "just right".

In all, Bolongo Bay was an excellent experience for us and a great value!

Needs work

I am surprised by the numer of ++ reviews. I stayed there with 2 buddies a few years ago and we were bored to tears (we are not the most wild of guys by any means, but this place didn't seem to have anything happening). We immediately rented a car, since taxis are exhorbitant.
Our room (no kitchen) was in the central area near the reception and the view of the beach was to die for; though the furniture and plumping could be updated (water in toilet was like cream of mushroom soup, though I realize H2) is scare on the islands). I wanted to explore along the beach to the west, but got caught on razor sharp rocks. Bring water sandles. Beach to the east is fine; good for children, since the water is very calm. Around 10.30 one evening, we got hungry and all the places in Charlotte Amailie were closed, even KKFC and McD's. We finally found a restaurant open at Bluebeard's Castle and drove there for a pizza. We were the only ones there and if I had been there with my girlfriend instead, it would have been one of the most romantic spots; the nighttime view of Charlotte Amailie is fantastic.

We will Bolongo again!!

We visited Bolongo Bay Beach Clud mid November. When we got to Saint Thomas we experienced the most torrential rains the Island has seen in years. It literally washed out one of two of the restaurants at Bolongo Bay. Despite the weather and only one restaurant to go to in our all inclusive plan, the staff at Bolongo did everything they could to see that we had a good time. They helped us plan our activities around the weather and they combined menus from both restaurants to make sure we had a variety of food until the second restaurant was able to re-open.
The hotel itself was old but very clean. The bathrooms were very small and a little hard to get in the shower, but despite these little things, we had a ball. I would go back just for the excellant service and the wonderful food alone

Beach Casual and Unpretentous

We just got back from our first trip to Bolongo. We had an absolutely great time! My whole family of 5 felt very welcomed and greatly taken care of. The rooms ARE in need of some updating and remodeling BUT we weren't in our rooms but to sleep and shower. Why be in the room with a great beach, great view, and within a close walking distance to Iggy's beach restuarant & bar with great food. We ate there almost every night because of the awesome quality of the food and the value. We rented a Jeep which was wonderful because Bolongo is really in between downtown with the shopping & Red Hook where you get the ferry over to St. Johns.
The staff was remarkable! Incredibly friendly and treated us like family. We felt like family by the time we left. From the grounds people to the service staff and activities staff all of them going above & beyond to be helpful. If you are looking for a beach vacation that is relaxing in a friendly environment and that isn't pretentious or hoity toity then this is the place for you. We liked the casual atmosphere. We will be back!

My 16 year old daughter, 22 year old son and I just returned from our second successive Thanksgiving Week stay at Bolongo. Again, we were very satisfied and thank the Bolongo family for making this a memorable vacation.

Step out of your room and on to the beach - this is very important to us. The beach view is fabulous, but there are some rocks a few feet into the water.

The rooms are clean and comfortable, but not plush in any way. The only recommendation we would have is to make the shower a little larger. The view of the beach area from our balcony was incredible.

Beach activities are too numerous to mention, and the activities coordinator, Sergio, makes sure you feel comfortable participating, and being included.

The Heavenly Days day sail takes you around the south and east end of the island then off to a perfect beach on St. John for snorkelling and lunch. The crew is top notch and you will remember this day forever.

There are two restaraunts and the food at both is quite good. Iggies, the perfect beach bar, is where we most often dined. There are specials every night and my daughter's favorite was the all you can eat crab legs - we ate for hours.

Everyone commends the Bolongo staff for good reason - they earn the praise. This resort makes you feel like you are part of their family. I ask the kids each year if they would like to try another resort or island. I am glad they say, "Why go anywhere else".

Our second visit

This was our second visit to Bolongo; we had so much fun the first time, we wanted to share the experience with our oldest daughter and her husband. The relaxed friendly atmosphere of Bolongo brought us back.

The day sail on Heavenly Days to St. John is a must; Stephanie, Vic, and Captain Peter helped make the day perfect. All the staff was friendly; the atmosphere was like being at a home instead of a sterile hotel. The food in the Tree House was top notch; the surprise food tastings were an added delight. Save room for the special chocolate cake.

We booked the Club Everything package; it included an island tour, shopping trip, visit to Coral World, tramway cable car ride, scuba lesson and a few other nice things. This was a great deal!

We are already planning our next visit so we can take day trips to St.
John and the BVIs.

We have never been to the carribean before and picked the Bolongo Bay randomly. They had an all inclusive stay so we decided to book and go. What a wonderful experience. This is a rather modest appearing resort but WOW, what service. Everyone was very nice. The rooms were neat and clean and we did not need more than that as we only slept and bathed there. We spent practically the whole time on the beach. They offer alot of activities with the all inclusive like a day sail to St John's which had the most beautiful beach I have ever seen. We had a great time and cannot wait to go back.

My New Bride, and I went to Bolongo Bay Beach Club, and Resort for our Honey moon in July 2002. We were treated like royalty by the hotel, and surrounded by a Paradise. We got home, and immediately started our plans to return for our 5th. Anniversary, and would stay no where, but Bolongo Bay Beach Club. "Iggy's" was a "Hoot" of a good time, and can't wait to have our Daughter try her voice at Karaoke there, upon our return. Bolongo Bay Beach Club, and Resort is a "Must" go place! Do yourselves a favor, and plan on going. You'll be hooked, and get home to plan your return trip, as well. Walter, and Phyllis Strausser Seattle, WA.

We have been back in NH for only 3 weeks and are already planning our next trip to Bolongo Bay. The web site seemed to be just what we were looking for. We were not disappointed. It was everything we had hoped for and more. The room, the food, the beach and the staff all combined to make our vacation a week in Paradise.

Bolongo Bay is a Must

Our stay at the Bolongo Bay resort was more than we could have asked for. From the time we stepped foot in the door to the day we left, the service was wonderful. They have the friendliest staff that we have ever met at any resort. The Beach House restraunt was an excellent place for me to propose to my fiance. Michael and the staff made sure we had special seeting, which made it a truley special evening. I would recommend the Bolongo Bay to any one that is traveling to St. Thomas.

Top Local Tips for Charlotte Amalie

Rent a Car!!!! Be sure to rent a car. Yes driving on the left is different but doesn't take long to get used to. The winding roads aren't bad since the top speed is 35. The taxis were always crowded, driving erratically and expensive. We loved the freedom of being able to explore at our own pace and finding some of the roads less traveled.

using taxis make sure if you go into town that you always take a taxi that has a license. they will have a taxi license plate. this way you will be sure not to spend too much!

next time...rent Even with driving on the "wrong side", I think next time we'd rent a car. The cost of taxis everywhere can get pretty steep. If you make multiple trips to town or other beaches, it's probably cheaper and more convenient to rent a car.
