Great Hotel and Beach for the Price!!!

Got stranded due to late arrival. Stayed at Emerald Beach Resort due to the closeness to the airport. Stayed there 1 week by choice on my next visit to St. Thomas. The small beach is clean and the Hotel Staff are polite and very helpful. Recommend for last minute trips to the island, you won't be disappointed.

Unbelieveable Service and Value for St. Thomas

Two years ago my family and I stayed at one the "all inclusive mega-resorts" on St. Thomas and had a horrible experience. For $500 per night, we basically stayed at a Motel 6 with room service. However, we loved the island of St. Thomas and the shopping, so we came back again this year determined not to make the same mistake again. Thanks to TripAdvisor, we choose the Best Western Emerald Beach Resort. The hotel is a solid value, and features one of the best beaches in the Caribbean. The service level was superior to hotels that charge three times the nightly rate. Our room was very spacious and well appointed. What airport? We could hear maybe 3 planes a day.

The Restaurant at the Hotel provided gouremet food at reasonable prices. Most people that come to St. Thomas do not realize how expensive everything is because they think it is still the US. We did have one minor problem in the 5 nights that we stayed at Emerald Beach, and the manager Joy took care of the problem promptly and professionaly. Kudos to the magement and employees of Emerald Beach for operating a great hotel. In a place where personal service and attention is becoming forgotten, Emerald Beach remembers that the guest is the most important business asset of all.

There are not many hotels that can claim to have the complete package, but the Emerald Beach Resort in St. Thomas, VI is about as close as it could get. The hotel itself is wonderfully done, and is kept very clean. The beach speaks for itself, it is absolutley one of the nicest beaches in the world.

The location is very nice as well. Most of the big hotels are on the east end of the island, which is a lot further than you think. It can take an hour or more to get downtown from the east end as traffic is horrible. All of the great restaurants and the world class shopping are downtown, which only takes about ten minutes from Emerald Beach.

It is true that the airport almost goes unnoticed. There is very little air traffic in St. Thomas, and it is of no bother while laying on the beach catching a perfect nap. The restaurant at the hotel was honestly the best restaurant we ate at on the island. They have large events every weekend, a must see and eat.

This was an easy choice to reccommend this hotel.

We just came home from our stay at the Best Western Emerald Beach, and it was wonderful!!! We had been watching the reviews here for several months, and at one point, I found a couple of the reviews discouraging.
We almost changed our reservation, but we are sure glad that we didn't.
If nothing else impresses an Emerald Beach visitor, it will be the beach and the wonderful Emerald waters. It is such a beautiful, ample, beach with great swimming---a great sandy bottom without a lot of current or drop-offs. Bill and I never stayed in the water as long as we did every day here. We made friends with Barbara at The Palms Restaurant, and we will remember her always. She is down-to-earth friendly, and we enjoyed getting to know her. Not to mention that she made dining at The Palms a special experience. Hello Barb!!!! And Rolston, who worked the pool bar was always smiling, too. Hi Rolston.
We wish we could have stayed longer. Also, the BW Emerald Beach has a terrific pool with a gorgoeous view! The rooms at Emerald Beach were more than adequate as well. While they could use a little brush up, they were neat and clean --brand new carpeting, which I loved--and the housekeeping service did a fine job every day. Also, Lisa and Jinae (not sure of the spelling) were lively, smiling and helpful, at the front desk. And thank-you to the hotel management (Joel) for the nice Thursday Happy Hour! We cannot imagine anyone giving this place anything but a terrific review. We even enjoyed the taxi drivers, who were always ready and willing and more than happy to engage in a little visit about life on St. Thomas or whatever...! So, go for it travelers!!! The Best Western Emerald Beach is a great place to go.

Emerald Beach Was A Real Jewel

My wife and I used this forum to pick our hotle so i am happy to post this. We arrived at the Best Western Emerald and was impressed right from the start. The staff was excellent and filled all our requests without question. The rooms all are excellent and all have an ocean view(right on the beach) with balconies and the rooms are very clean and comfortable. the houskeeping staff were very courteous and prompt. The pool area is very clean and has a wonderful waterfall that pours into the pool and provides an excellent back massage for free. The pool bar and the restaurant are both very good and follow the prices of the rest ot the island, not cheap but reasonable and the service here is great. The beach we felt ranks in the top three on the island and we visited all of them. Very sandy and clear with great snorkeling. We spent a lot of time on this beach and we also talked to many other couples staying at the other hotels and they all complained about their respective beaches about being tofar and toooo rocky. If you hear that this is to close to the airport and airplanes are a problem, that is totally untrue. They only come and go twice a day and you dont notice. No interuptions from them and no bother. Affordable rental car across the street from the hotel is the most reasonable that i found and the cars were okay. It got me around the island(almost every inch) for 215.00 for eight days. Gas is expensive(2.10) but still cheaper than taxis and the driving is okay. All in all it was great and we visited most of the other hotels and were happy we made the selection that we did. Nice beach

Stayed here on our first night in St Thomas. We arrived late from the US. We went to the dining room to have a couple of drinks and took a nice salad back to our room where we sat on our beach front deck gazing at the stars. In the morning we snorkled right out in front of our room and I took some great underwater pictures of a barracuda about 3 feet long who just sat there and "smiled" for me while I clicked away. It was really cool. We were heading off to St Johns after one night but I'd recommend this place, it was clean and comfortable.

We recently spent 5 nights at the Emerald Beach hotel 8/11 to 8/16/03, Mon - Sat. For the price paid it was well worth it. The hotel is clean and the rooms well appointed, room safe, mini bar, iron, coffee maker, blow drier, shampoo & shower gel dispenser etc. and powerful a/c as well as ceiling fans. All rooms w/ double glass doors overlook Lindbergh Bay and affords each patron a beautiful view. The beach and pool (w/ waterfall) are well kept. They have received new beach chairs.
I felt the the only thing missing was bar service on the beach as the hotel is comprised of 4 buildings and the poolside / beach bar is located oceanfront at bldg 1. The close proximity to the airport should not be a deterrent, there are only 3 or 4 large jets in and out on any given day which you barely notice. The staff is not intrusive and are willing to guide you and offer recommendations when asked. For lunch and dinner the hotel restaurant 'The Palm' is a bit pricey. We had dinner there only once and did enjoy the West Indian Bufffet (every Friday) with live steelband music @ $24.95 pp. This price is on par with some other island restaurants and can be justified as the Emerald Beach offer all guests free continental breakfast. I especially enjoyed the wide selection of juices and fruits.

The Emerald Beach Hotel is in a superior setting. The beach is beautiful, clean and private. The pool is likewise. The rooms are very clean and quite nice; all have a balcony overlooking the ocean. Had no trouble with A/C.

Service at the front desk is inferior. These folks cannot do 2 things at the same time i.e., answer a phone and hand out towels. And, they move at a snail's pace (not just because it's hot).

Bar service was poor but the regular bartender was on vacation. When Rolston returned, he gave excellent service.

Restaurant food for lunch was very good but dinner wasn't fit to eat.
The coconut shrimp was gummy and no hint of coconut.

The location of this hotel is a distance from downtown but it's safe and if you use the safari buses ($1) it only takes a few minutes to get into town. These buses run constantly and the drivers stop when they see tourists; you don't have to flag them down. The taxis are $6 pp each way. The front desk people won't tell you about the safari buses.

I would stay here again because the price was excellent as was the beach.

Horrible, going downhill fast

I travel on business, however I dread going to this place. The air conditioners are spotty at best. Only a few rooms have good air. The water pressure is spotty also. Rooms are clean. Food is expensive for what is provided. Service is slow and somewhat sullen. Spend the extra money and stay somewhere pleasant. The beach is nice. Hotel is across the street from the main runway at the airport.

Landed at this little airport after coming in over only water- received my rum-runner from tourist rep. and downed in one gulp. Got my bags, no problem, walked outside in jeans and sweater to 87 warm beautiful air and started to relax. STT has beautiful hills, fantastic people and such relaxation, wish I could be back right now. Stayed at Emerald Beach Hotel, near airport, planes now and then during day, none at night after 6pm, gorgeous Bay, beautiful water, and such an easy trip to town. Lots of large ships pass your window on way in to port. Very interesting. Navy destroyer went in one day. Neat pictures. Went to town each am FREE, and returned by locals bus for $1.00. Went all over island at nite, different local restaurants, had enough extra $ cause we didn't stay at typical "hot" spot, to eat out WELL every night. Hotel on quiet side, teriffic, 'cause you want it quiet when you sleep, and so nice to have beach not over run with wall to wall people. Didn't go to see the tourists anyway. All hotel staff, helpful and nice. Beautiful architecture on island, georgeous views at every turn, people friendly and helpful, play it safe and be a smart tourist, crime as anywhere. Make sure you try The Point in Frenchtown restaurant. Newly opened this summer, EXCELLENT!!! Hi Tom (manager), sure glad to have met you and your terrific eating spot. John and I will be back ASAP.

Top Local Tips for Charlotte Amalie

Great little wine bar and restaurant In the Frenchtown area of St. Thomas just down from the main waterfront on the way toward the ariport is a lovely little 6 table restaurant and wine/champagne bar called Epernay. If you want a respite from the craziness and drunkedness of party people on vacation who frequent the downtown bars and restaurants, this is definitely a local kind of place with great atmosphere that makes one feel like they've arrived in a little bistro in Paris. We also had the Hook, LIne and Sinker restaurant just across the way in Frenchtown recommended to us. Again, it appeared to be more local than touristy and a good little fish place to try.

beware... The free shuttle from the hotel is $4.00/person to downtown and $6,00 back
