Top Local Tips for Speyside
Restaurants around Speyside, Tobago Restaurants tend to close at 9pm every night and you will find that many do not open Saturday or Sunday. Menus are often limited and you will get a basic meal of rice, potatoes & veg, together with a choice from fish, meat or shrimp. Beware of the spices! Ask for less spice if you are not into hot food.
north the north coast is mostly for bird watching and scuba diving and relaxing only.
Speyside Speyside is a little village - if you get talking to the locals and have a walk around, use the local restaurants etc, you start to get the feel that this is a community that kind of looks after its people. However, the beach is not good for swimming or sunbathing - we saw rubbish and broken bottles everywhere and alongside the road. It doesnt need to be like that, and if the community could get together and have a clean up it would be better for them, but also more pleasant for visitors. Speyside, because of the roads, is abit isolated unless you hire a car or use taxis. Our hotel (Manta Lodge) was awful (dirty) and didnt advertise things to do in the area - like tours, trips etc. We did a load of research before we went, found our own taxi and guides and saw lots of the island - the Tobago Museum is worth a visit at Scarborough, Pigeon Point great for a 'day at the beach' and souvenirs. Peter Cox gave us an excellent guided tour in the rainforest (he has a website).
