Stay safe Unfortunatley Por of Spain has developed a reputation for being unsafe though I have yet to experience anything other than the best of times. However it is advisable to get a good driver /taxi and stick with him/her for the duration of your stay. Jewelry & Walking around Our drivers advised EVERYONE in our group not to wear any jewelry when outside of the hotel. One said that he was robbed for his watch at gunpoint 2 years ago (and he's lived in Port-of-Spain all his life!!!). We were also told never to walk alone day or night. Always have a partner, especially the ladies. My co-worker and I went to the local Pharmacy. We had so many guys make cat-calls to us both. We just ignored them, but some got aggressive and grab our wrists for attention. Just tell them a firm "NO" and they back off.
Carnival This is about the best time to visit Trinidad and Tobago.There are nonstop activities and events leading up to two days of parading in the streets.Dont miss Jourvert which opens the carnivall and starts at 4am on the Carnival monday.Tuesday ,just roam thru the city and take in the sights of an truly amazing specatacle.Carnival will be celebrated February 23/24 in 2009.The sun can be brutal ,so bring lots of lotion.
