Top Local Tips for Bequia
Take the shared charter from Barbados-Bequia I did a ton of research before booking our flights, and so many people recommended flying into St Vincent and taking the ferry to Bequia. In theory, it sounds great: save a little money, do it the old-school local way. However, when I checked the ferry and flight schedules, I found that it would take an entire day of traveling and possibly require an overnight on St Vincent. Maybe other people want to waste one or two days of their vacation staying in a place that is not their ultimate destination, but I am not that person. For $150 pp plus taxes one way, we were met in Barbados by the Grenadines Air Alliance. While the rest of our JFK-Barbados flight stood in the immigration line and waited for their bags, the Mustique air people collected our bags, we skipped immigration and in 20 minutes were walking to our 15-20 seater plane with a few other people. The plane stopped in Canouan and we were in Bequia in time for mid afternoon cocktails.
taxis and minivans/buses make sure you understand the difference as thet have very different rates. The little pickups are the taxis, they charge more whereas the minibuses are usually a dollor a ride.Though sometimes a taxi will take you for a dollar, just depends on their time. Anyway, whichever way you choose, hang on ,keep breathing and enjoy the ride!!!
Rent a car Although certainly not necessary since there are plenty of taxis, driving around the small island in a jeep or moke gives you greater flexibility, allows you to carry all your gear and, let's face it, is fun!
