A fabulous time at the Sunterra Flamingo

from bettina
We stayed at the Sunterra Flamingo Resort for a week in August 2004. The resort is very clean and the establishment is very grateful to its time share owners. We were given owner appreciation nights, limbo nights, barbecues and a great workout with a hilarious instructor from Tuesdays to Fridays (water aerobics). The staff at the Sunterra are very accomodating towards guests and the units are cleaned daily. Having had a poolside room was great, but if I were given a unit up on the hill, I would have had quite a hike after my swim at the pool or the beach. A great island and vacation. Highly recommended!

We loved the Senterra Flamingo Beach Resort

My beautiful wife and I have visited St Maarten twice in the past 15 months. We were just there in July. At both times we have stayed at the SUNTERRA FLAMINGO BEACH RESORT. We both have been to other Caribbean destinations such as : Turks and Caicos, Bahamas, Barbados, and Dominican Republic but WE loved Sint Maarten the most.
The people, the beach and the most important the food. We loved the food on the French side, when you decide to reward your self and take a trip to this beautiful island you must go to La Tropicana which is a restaurant located on the French side ask for Alex which is a Russian waiter he will take care of you.

You will love having lunch or dinner at this magnificent culinary festival while over looking the water.

The resort is outstanding, nice people, always smiling, and always willing to answer any of your questions.
If you are into Tennis there are private lessons with a great trainer.

If you are looking for a beautiful vacation with a great hotel, staff, and restaurants to die for, Saint Maarten and the SUNTERRA FLAMINGO BEACH RESORT is the place to stay.

My husband and I stayed at Flamingo Beach this June of 2004. We were treated as though we were the resort's only guests. Anything we needed or wanted was handled promptly and with a smile. If you are going, we definately recommend renting a car at the airport. Our room was on the ground floor facing the pool. There was never a day without some activity to do. If you are planning on going to the grocery store, take the tour of the island on Monday and they'll take you right to the store! As far as dining was concerned we definately recommend you try Vinny Valentine Tratoria which is located across from the Hollywood Casino :) We definately plan on returning.
PS-Don't be afraid to take the timeshare tour, it's not like those other high pressure tours and they have great free items like the Dolphin Swim in Anguilla, which you don't want to miss!

Great Resort

We just returned from a trip to St. Martin. Our stay at the Sunterra Resort at Flamingo Beach was fabulous. The studio unit had lots of space, the view was wonderful and the staff was very, very helpful and cordial. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Loved Flamingo Beach Resort!!

We spent the week before Easter at the Flamingo. This was my family's 1st trip to St. Maarten and we just loved it. Our unit very spacious and clean. The staff was friendly. The beach was nice. A little crowded at times but not alot of people in the water(which is where my 2 kids were all the time). The beach bar and grill was nice for a sandwich and cocktail. The pool was great. Large and kept very clean. We took evening swims and had the pool all to ourselves. The place got very quiet after the sun went down. For more action we went to the Sunset Beach Bar. The kids played on the beach while we had a drink and watched the planes flying in right over our heads. For dinner Cherri's was good(and entertaining), the Boathouse,Hot Tomatoes, and the Tex Mex Rest. were good and reasonably priced. Great relaxing vacation!!

We love the Flamingo

we own a week here. we loved it fm the 1st time we went & bought there. the location is outstanding. we've been all over the island many times and always say the flamingo is the best location. up on a hill overlooking the bay and the ocan. very clean resort, gorgeous pool on the ocean. the grounds are very clean, well kept and tropical. never saw a single bug! people are very friendly, of course you want to get out and see the entire island, the many beaches. restaurants are excellent all over the island. try these :LaGuna, Saratoga,Don Camillo (in Marigot) Boat House, Lees, and many many more!

Flamingo Beach was Great

We used Sun Options to book our stay at the Flamingo, and we are very happy. The rooms are nice (about what you would expect of a Sunterra resort), and we will most definitely be coming back! There was an unexpected $50 "time-share usage tax" that we had to pay at check out, but all in all, it was a great time.

We found the Dutch side of the island MUCH better than the French side - from the language to the acceptance of the US dollar, to the attitude of the various service-providers, we'd recommend staying on the Dutch side of the isalnd.

The snorkeling trip aboard the Lambada to the island of Prickly Pear was the best day we had. The crew of the boat was awesome, the snorkeling was okay, and we had a GREAT time.

A good place

Our family of 4 stayed here over thanksgiving week. Overall we would rate it above average as far as the condition of the facilities and the attitude of the staff. Good central location as far as getting around the dutch side of the island. Found mullet bay beach to be the best beach by far, and the Pinel island trip was worth it. ( But bring cash if you intend to eat there--only one french restruant outdoors and very pricey, and no credit cards are accepted. Also enjoyed the Hollywood casino which is within walking distance to Flamingo beach

Good but not that good

Hi, just returned from two weeks on St.Maarten one of which was spent at the Flamingo. Thought I might add my comments to the pool. Check in was a nightmare. After a 14 hour flight you don't expect to be told at 5 pm that your room is still not ready. Our room was one of only a few that overlooked the car lot. It rained all week we were there( no blame there) but our room leaked water so we were getting out of bed into a puddle. We asked if anything could be done but were informed that we weren't as bad as some rooms. No restaurant is on site just a beach bar that closes at 7. The one next door at the La Vista is excellent. The pool is lovely and so is the little beach area. All the beach loungers, and patio furniture were being replaced while we were there. Also the refrigerators, which is a positive sign. Everything happens at "island pace" so if you have a problem don't get stressed when nothing happens.
Our second week was spent at the Oyster Bay resort which was for us a much better location. Finally if you have to travel between Flamingo and P'burg allow more time as the traffic is bad.

Great Place

The Flamingo is a great resort. We did however have a very good room with a great sunset view. That made the stay more enjoyable. The staff is friendly and responds to problems. There are a few rooms that overlook the road that have no view and the satilite TV was on the fritz while we were there. Their grill has very good food. Beware of the french rest. down the street. Le Bec Fin. $26 for 8 shrimp and an unpleasant manager. You would be better served to eat at the Flamingo grill. Also beware of the two young frenchman with scratch tickets for the Divi Resort. Great resort, rude manager and the scratch tickets are no good. This does not have anything to do with the Flamingo, but if you stay in this great resort you need to be warned about these two problems in the area. Ask about the free shuttle the Flamingo offers to the grocery store when you first get there. You can also get a ride down the hill.

Top Local Tips for Simpson Bay

Driving is wild and parking is scarce. If you rent a car, be prepared to drive aggressively, but politely. There a very few stop signs or traffic lights where one would expect them. We have used both Budget and Avis, reserved from the States with good results, but only small cars are available. Budget is cheaper than Avis, but Avis seems to have newer cars. If you're headed to Philipsburg to shop, get there well before 9:00AM. Workers, whose shops open at 9:00 or 10:00 take up most of the spaces. We drove around for 90 minutes one day without finding a spot! Everything is closed on Sunday.

Accomodations Do not get room 7430

Around the Island Things you must do on the island: --Rent a car!!! Carzy drivers but way too much to see without a car --Cheri's Cafe (show starts at 8:30 pm, street show at 9 nightly) --Grand Case Restuarant Row for dinner- Le California is great, Le Tastevin okay --Le Galion Beach- so calm you can float for hours- avoid it on Sundays though because the locals go and set up for the whole day- tents and generators and everything --Philipsburg for the shopping --Atlantis Casino- they give you match money every night. You put $10 in the machine and they match it with $10. So, $10 free play (Princess Casino has the best machines, Atlantis has the best tables) --Marigot for morning pastries and coffee at the French cafes --The boathouse restaurant- normal menu but great quality and service.
