Divi is nice and so so at the same time

This is my 4th time at the Divi. Same beautiful views and island hot spots. However, the Divi is slowly going down hill. It seems that even the newest rooms are getting old just after a few years and the overall maintenance is lacking. The front desk took forever to get us checked in and most of the staff seemed almost bothered by the guests. Bottom line on the Divi- Will not be staying there anymore when I go to SM. For others thinking about it, I'd go within the next 2 years before the place is unpleasant to stay at even with the wonder views.....

My husband and I were in St Maarten with another couple one week ago. This couple has timeshares that were traded for that week in St Maarten. We were scheduled to stay at Sapphire Beach and did spend one night there. The experience was not good so we went to see Divi. While there the time share owner talked with the staff on duty on June 6, 2004. They were so very helpful and kind. We were able to stay at Divi for the next 6 nights. They even told us to come that night. Once we saw Divi we knew that was the place we wanted to be. Our friends had stayed there several times but thought getting closer to town would be nice. Wrong when Sapphire Beach was involved. And besides we were not far from town at Divi. The beach and friendly staff made our first stay in St Maarten wonderful. We would go back to Divi in a NY second!

I visited St Maarten with 2 girlfriends and we had a blast!! At first I was a bit skeptical because when we arrived, we passed by many hotels I was considering. The were all run down and dilapitated. What a big sigh of relief when we pulled into the Divi!!! The divi is right on its own peninsula and away from all the hotel chain streets. It was secluded, but the island is small so nothing is too far away. The other good feature about this is all the beaches on the island are public, but because the divi is nestled away, the beach was never crowded. I stayed in one of the suites for the timeshares. I highly recommend getting one of these rooms because I dont think I would have been so happy had we stayed in one of the smaller beachfront rooms. Our room had a small kitchen that we stocked up, a beautiful balcony and a HUGE bathroom with a Jacuzzi!! We were also near one of the pools that not too many people knew about. It has a waterfall and a gorgeous view of the ocean. We had the opportunity to sneak a peek at someone getting married there!!! The restaurant was a bit pricey for food that was ok. There were better restaurants to eat at for less money. I highly recommend taking the tour of the island in the first day or two and then renting a car. It is a small island that you can familiarize yourself quite easily. I would also recommend snorkling right at the divi, instead of spending $60 on a tour. We did both and I found better fish off the shore of divi than going out to sea for nothing. The best advice I can give ALL visitors of this wonderful island is to go to Cheri's cafe. It was by far the best meal I have EVER had in my life. You will not be disappointed. If you have any questions or you'd like to know about the nightlife (clubs & bars) feel free to email me.

Inattentive Service!

My husband and I stayed at the Divi for 7 days in April and while the island is breathtaking, our stay at the Divi was not. We loved the beach, but the service was very poor. We ate breakfast at the Toucan resturant every day and every day something was wrong with our order. Its better to eat dinner at one of the great resturants in Phillipsburg or on the French side. The Divi staff were pleasant, but mostly, (but not all) inattentive and easily distracted. We asked for washcloths several times and received them only after several requests. We stayed in the hotel facing the beach. It was ok, so if you are looking for luxury, go somewhere else. Its a beautiful location and we enjoyed our trips around the island, but I am not sure I would return to the Divi.

We stayed days at Divi and 6 days on the airport side. Chcck-in no problems(able to get to our room 2 hours early and a rum punch) Plenty of towels, beach towels were even delivered to our room without asking.
Patio great with table and chairs and loungers with a great view. One bedroom with a kitchenette. Huge bathroom with a tub you could swim in and plenty of hot water. Rent a car. Don't recommend the restaurant service sucks and food OK. Go to Travel Talk On Line great source of info. Email me if you have any ????

Awesome beach, and a real nice condo

We got a great deal from Skyauction and stayed here in a condo for a week. They put us in a third floor one bedroom of the newly remodeled section. it was fantastic. 2 bathrooms, nice kitchen, 2 tvs, 2 balconies. I hit the grocery store on the way in and stocked the fridge - it made for a really cheap week. Rent a car - you'll want to explore the other beaches. The beach in front of the condos is very calm. One of the neat benefits of this resort is it's tricky for someone not staying here to get onto the beach - so we never were hit by an influx of the cruise ships on our beach. And, you can see when the cruise ships are in dock, so you know when to avoid Phillipsburg. I'd stay here again in a heart beat!

St. Maarten anytime

I took a group to St. Maarten August 2003 and we had a ball. We stayed at Divi on Little Bay. I chose there because I had been there before and totally enjoyed it. Our rooms were very nice and clean. The staff met all of our needs and were very courteous. The kids enjoyed the pools tremendously. Our rooms came with kitchenette so we could cook our meals if we felt like eating in. We are planning to go there again this August.

Our experience was much the same as the reviewer previously regarding Divi Little Bay Resort. Our check-in was very slow and there were a lot of pepole waiting around in the lobby for room keys. It took half an hour to get keys and then neither of them worked. The front desk brought new keys and only one of those worked and only one door lock worked. The room was very warm when we arrived and the a/c vents were full of hanging dust particles, so we could tell that it wasn't functioning properly. The bedroom and bathroom floor had a lot of hair all over as well. We were impressed with the grounds, pools, and great restaurant food. This was not our home resort and we could defintely feel a "corporate" attitude regarding a lot of the service areas (except for the restaurant manager, who was great!)

Great beach, so so accomodations

My husband and I just returned from a 6-day stay at Divi Little Beach resort in St. Maarten. Upon arrival, the resort seemed impressive, as it is set on its own peninsula and looked quite charming. But, the room itself was pretty lackluster. It could definitely use a major update.
Also, there were no pillowcases on the pillows and no alarm clock....
We dealt with the no alarm clock situation--after all we were on vacation--but we called for pillowcases, and waited over 2 hours for them. I wasn't surprised, since previous reviews kept stressing the lackadaisical service, but my husband was apalled.

Anyhow, the beach here was small, but VERY clean and wonderful. We took a drive to Orient Beach one day, and quickly left. It was way overcrowded! The breakfast at Toucan's kind of sucked, so we didn't really have any other meals there. The pina coladas at the beach bar were really fantastic, though.

Also, I appreciated the fact that this resort is gated and has a security guard on duty. Not that I felt unsafe walking around the island, but it definitely had some seedy areas.

Overall, we had a nice stay here. If I ever returned to St. Maarten, I might stay here again, but I don't think we will be returning...I'm sure there are more beautiful caribbean islands out there...

A great stay

My wife and I stayed at the Divi for a week (time share) and were pleased with the resort. The beach was great - very private, good sand, nice chairs. Beware that one day per week they host passergers from Carnival boats for a beach excursion - maybe plan a day trip away from the resort that day. The watersports activities were plentiful and a lot of fun. The Divi is on a private bay on the leeward side of the island, so it is a lot easier to kayak or snorkel there than, say, Orient beach.

As for the accomodations, they seemed newly renovated and very clean, if not overly luxurious. There were small annoyances - the water in the bath wasn't hot enough, the tile on the balcony was laid to drain into the unit rather than off onto the lawn, and the tennis court was laid to let the water collect in puddles - which is ruining an otherwise good court.

The main restaurant was not 5-star, but was good and exceeded our expectations. My wife suspected her pasta dish was so good because it was made with chicken stock.

If you tire of beach-sitting, I advise renting a car. The day trip to Saba is excellent.

Top Local Tips for Philipsburg

Car horns If someone beeps their car horn at you while driving, it means they're going to let you go first. As you go, beep back to tell them "Thank you."

Boardwalk Walk around all of Phillipsburg. The boardwalk is great. At the end with near the cruise ship shuttle is the Greenhouse with a long happy hour. Saturday has least number of cruise ships in port.

Getting around & web searches Google or yahoo St. Maarten for great web sites about what to do etc. I got a great inexpensive car rental from a local just outside of the airport. He had good advice. Wasn 't the greatest looking car but I didn't want one that would be stolen or broken into either. Unfortunately, I can't remember his name but he is mentioned in quite a few review websites. Use the island maps for diving around and ask the locals for the "safe" shortcuts. We got so lost one day that a wonderful woman waiting at a bus stop got in our back seat .....while saying...."Oh sweet Jesus......just let me show you how to get there!"....We ended up taking her to work on the way ....and in conversation....we found out she dates a man who drove my aunt around when she visited the island yearly for about 10 years.! Small world.
