Top Local Tips for Orient Bay

Great food - horrible hotel owner/staff Orient Beach is the best beach on the island, but do not get attracted to this hotel because it looks more reasonably priced than others: unless you want to pay to be INSULTED AND MISTREATED, do youself a favor: find other accomodations.

Lunch and Dinner Tips For lunch on the beach at Orient Bay: most of the beach restaurants have snacks and some also have serious menus. I recommend Baywatch and Pirate for affordable local seafood and BBQ. La Playa has wonderful salads and suppers. Beach attire is acceptable at all of these. For dinner, we enjoyed two places near the hotel, Planet Orient B and Cote Plage...elegant French fare in very casual, relaxed surroundings. We also had an excellent Italian dinner in Grand Case at Il Nettuno overlooking the Marina...a lovely place with both traditional and modern Italian dishes; Talk of the Town is on the main street there - it is a hopping local joint with outdoor grilling of ribs, fish, chicken, and there is plenty of beer. Two okay meals that paled in comparison: L'Escargot in Phillipsburg and La Chappelle in Orient Bay. Dinners ran about 100 euros for two people (drinks, appetizers, entrees, wine, dessert) and were usually well worth it. Attire was casual: t-shirts and shorts seemed ok.
