Historical Traveller Reviews of Le Petit Hotel

my favorite hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We discovered Le Petit Hotel about four years ago after abruptly leaving a misserable situation in Jamaica and catching a flight "anywhere else". This is by far my favorite hotel in the world. Although it does not have the ammenities that larger resorts offer, it has charm, grace and beautiful rooms with views. St. Martin has so much to offer any traveler and Le Petit Hotel is the perfect accomodation. Although I am not terribly fond of the Grand Case Beach itself, it is a great setting to enjoy breakfast, and early evening french champagne(from the local super marche of course). I agree with someone else's comment that I almost do not want to ruin my "little secret spot", but, then again, this hotel is not for everyone! Kudos to the owners and managers for creating such a wonderful spot!!!!!

Everything we expected and more...

from Lesley-Win
My husband and I recently returned from a very relaxing and enjoyable two-week stay at Le Petit Hotel. From having visited this website, I found the reviews to be accurate, as the hotel was everything I had expected, and more! We stayed on the second floor: a large room with a gleaming wood ceiling, a spacious kitchen area, and a beautiful balcony with a view of Anguilla(available with every room). Even with the sliding glass door shut, one is still lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves breaking on the beach below. Daily maid service is provided, with bed linens changed every other day. Coffee, freshly-squeezed orange juice along with a variety of oh-so-French breakfast pastries are provided every morning in the reception area, along with the Miami Herald and the island paper.

I cannot speak highly enough of the staff! We dealt mostly with Muriel(she just happened to be working most of the days we were there), but Miriam and also Priscille(from the larger sister hotel down the road, l'Esplanade) were extremely friendly and very helpful. One of the reasons we chose St. Martin was its proximity to other islands(Anguilla, St. Barth's and others) and we did take full advantage of this feature. The staff recommended other excursions which we also enjoyed tremendously(America's Cup sailboat race; Scooby-Doo catamaran ride to Prickly Pear island, and climbing up to Pic Paradis from Loterie Farm-better go early in the morning for the best experience!)

We enjoyed lunch at the Lolos: try the plantain and the crab-backs. We also sought out other places outside Grand Case: Au Grain du Sel, in Cul-de-Sac (for a real taste of country French cooking[they also have pizza]...one feels that one is in the home of dear French friends in this small family run restaurant[take cash, they don't accept credit cards, but their prices are reasonable]), a nice change from some of the formality of Grand Case; excellent food was also to be found in a very casual setting-right on Orient Beach at Andy and Cheryl's 'Baywatch', and another highlight was La Chapelle, also in Orient Beach (mall area). In Grand Case, we ate at several of the "top" restaurants, but we both agreed upon The Cottage as our first pick. In Marigot, go to the Tropicana at the Marina for a nice lunch setting and even better food(the salads were AMAZING, and the french fries were the best I had ever tasted!)

Of course the best reason to go to St. Martin may be the beaches, and there is quite a selection. They are all worth a visit, as they are all somewhat different. Even Orient Beach, with its myriad of tourists and its handful of exhibitionists has a gorgeous expanse of beautiful sand. Even though the airport and the traffic on the road(s) can be hairy, one can always find a place to relax on the beach in front of clear turquoise water!

What a view!!

Just returned from Le Petit in March 2005. The hotel with management service by Miriam and Muriel was fantastic and the room was beautiful.
We had the one bedroom suite on the first floor ( 2 separate bathrooms!). If you are coming to St. Martin there is not a better place to go! Complete room service everyday, very clean and carribean room with rich decor, and every room has a view to die for! straight onto the beautiful ocean and I mean the ocean is right there! At high tide the water came within 6 feet of our private double terrace. Small but exclusive feeling beach. Enough to sun and relax. Good snorkeling right out in the water. There is small reef/rock formations immediatly at the shoreline. Near french resturants in Grand Case and not very far from all the beaches and things to do. Enjoyed the free continental breakfast each morning and the pleasant attitudes of the staff. If you are going to stay on the French side, there certainly is not a better place than Le Petit if you want to enjoy your room the beach, and just plain relax!!

ll Revisit Often!

Le Petit Hotel is everything you could want from a small beachside hotel. The rooms are tastefully elegant and very functional, with kitchenettes including sink, microwave, stovetop, and cabinets with basic dishware. The staff, particularly Muriel and Miriam (the resident manager), are superb and very helpful with requests of any sort. In particular, the beach-access rooms are a real treat. We spent much of our time on the lounge chairs (under provided umbrellas when the sun got very hot) watching the waves lap on the pristine beach. The location couldn't be better, with an easy walk into the central part of Grand Case with more excellent restaurants than could be sampled in a week. Lunch at the local Lolos was a near daily routine (Talk of the Town topped our list). Highest recommendation--this hotel is really better than its three-star billing here!

Grand Case Magic

from andynap
We have been going to St. Martin since 1972, usually staying at the GC Beach Club and this is the first time for Le Petit Hotel but certainly not the last. It exudes tranquillity and relaxation that sometimes eludes one on vacation. The rooms are what a tropical room should be- clean, airy, spacious and all wood even on the ceiling. Because it is located at the far side of Grand Case, we had the beach to ourselves most of the time. All the restaurants in Grand Case are within walking distance. They even arranged the car rental and pick-up at the airport. A really fine hotel.

Heaven on Earth

from deanzeus
We stayed at Le Petit Hotel from December 30 through January 3 and then stayed another 4 nights at another hotel on the island to get a glimpse of different areas on the French Side of St. Martin. All I can say is that Le Petit Hotel is one the BEST boutique hotels that we have ever stayed at and we are very discerning travelers who always stay in top resorts around the world. I researched endlessly where to stay and could not have been happier with my choice of Le Petit Hotel. Miriam and her staff immediately make you feel at home and do everything in their power to accommodate you and your needs. The minute we saw the room, we fell in love with it... Comfy down covers with a fabulous featherbed. The room was very large with a big balcony directly overlooking the ocean (yes, we could have jumped from our balcony into the ocean - that's how close we were), and eat in kitchen with all appliances including a stovetop and microwave (not needed in Grand Case with all the amazing restaurants, but a great addition to the room). Every night, we would fall asleep to the sounds of the ocean (what more could you want?) and then awake to freshly baked croissants and breads along with wonderfully strong coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice that we would bring back up to the room and enjoy on our balcony. Nothing else could ever compare to this unbelievably relaxing holiday. The only mistake that we made was to spend our last 4 nights in Marigot at another hotel that I will not mention -- a decent location, but can't hold a candle to Le Petit Hotel. If you want an amazing location, with every possible upscale amenity at your fingertops, along with top of the line service from Miriam and her crew, then you must stay at Le Petit Hotel! My husband and I are counting the days until we can return to Le Petit Hotel. Any questions, feel free to email me at chericutler@comcast.net.

And, by the way, the location is fabulous - a 5 minute walk from all of the top restaurants in St. Martin - Grand Case (which is why we chose to stay there) as we are big foodies from Philly and enjoy eating at the best restaurants, which Grand Case definitely offers!

Quiet, friendly and great value

from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I had stayed at the hotel for a week in May of 2004. We could not have expected better treatment or hospitality from the staff. The room was well appointed with a kitchen, tv, a/c, nice bathroom and even a balcony facing the beach and a great view of the ocean. Great place to stay to get away from the crowded touristy hotel and all-inclusives. The island has one main road that goes all the way around, so you are still close to all the main attractions and beaches and shopping. Would highly recommend, but not too much, don't want to give away this little gem.

Perfect Getaway

from c1440
Went to Le Petit Hotel with my boyfriend for a weekend getaway. The friendly staff and the beautiful direct beach access room made our stay unforgettable. The location is great for walking to restaurants and the staff was always eager to help with recommendations and arranging our activities. The ocean’s a little rough at the hotel (I'm not a confident swimmer) but quieter as you walk toward the town.

Nothing finer than Le Petit

from jabe74
Just got back from our too-brief stay on the French side of St. Martin. We stayed half the time at Le Petit and the rest at a hotel on Orient Bay that, although it cost more, simply didn't measure up in terms of style, grace, cleanliness and hospitality. As others have said, Miriam does a fabulous job of making you feel at home as soon as you arrive. Our airline screwed up our arrangements so we arrived a day later than planned and added a day at the end. No problem. We had a choice of staying the last night at Orient or returning to Le Petit. After seeing both properties, there was no question in our minds. We returned to Grand Case, even though it meant packing up and moving, just for one night. Le Petit is that nice.
We loved listening to waves crashing while going to sleep, taking a swim before breakfast, indulging in the complimentary breakfast of pastries, juice and coffee, snorkeling right off the hotel beach, walking to town to sample the fine restaurants, taking out prepared delicacies from the local French grocer (The Bounty) and eating them in our room, and getting great advice from Miriam. Sure, the beach is narrow and there isn't much surf to speak of. Rent a car and drive if that's what you're looking for. You won't go wrong by choosing Le Petit. We hope to return many times.

A Slice of Heaven

Le Petit Hotel is one of those places you daydream about while you're stuck in traffic, sitting in a meeting, or cleaning your house. "If only I were sitting on our terrace at Le Petit right now...if only!"
The hotel is such an incredible escape -- my husband and I are always in search of the perfect little hideaway (and we have very high standards), and Le Petit is ranked among the best in our book. It is small, private, and romantic, the rooms are gorgeous and all come with a small kitchen, and every room has a private terrace with a front row seat to the Caribbean--perfect for enjoying pastries, juice, and coffee in the morning (which the hotel provides) or making cocktails and playing cards at sunset! There just aren't many places like that.

The staff and management are incredibly helpful and cheerful -- you can ask them for help with anything and they will go above and beyond to meet your needs. They make the hotel feel like a little home away from home. That is something really important to us when we're traveling.

The beach in front of the hotel is beautiful and clean, and most of the time there isn't a soul on it. The hotel provides cushy lounge chairs so you can nap, read, or watch your vacation partner splash in the water. The water there is optimal for swimming and snorkeling so you never have to go very far to explore! The hotel is also great for kids because they have a natural playground right in front of them.

One of the best things about the hotel is that while it is quiet and private, you can take a walk down the beach (or down the street, whichever terrain you prefer) and you are in the middle of the best restaurant selection in the Caribbean. Many of the restaurants are French and right on the water, so if you're feeling decadent you have an incredible selection. There are also several casual restaurants to choose from, right on the beach, as well.

This sounds like quite a love letter to Le Petit, but it deserves it -- it's a terrific hotel in an unbeatable location.

Bottles of Wine Good wine can be had for reasonable prices in the market at the end of the resturaunt strip, past the Lolo!

Le Cottage Restaurant Check it out, the best food in town, maybe on the whole island!

Our favorite restaurants Le Tastevin was the best French we felt, other notables, Le Gourmand, ?? Escapade, not sure this is exact name but real close, just before Le Tastevin on same side, red lettering in sign. Very good. When your tired of French, great Italian at Spiga, this is fantastic..
