Historical Traveller Reviews of St James Club Morgan Bay Hotel

Best vacation ever!

from Anned4
I have to admit I was a little nervous going to St. James Club after reading some of the negative reviews. I couldn't have been more surprised! From the time we arrived till the time we left, I had not one complaint. We went from April 27th-May 4th and everything was perfect. The resort was gorgeous and well kept and the staff went out of their way to please every guest. I highly recommend the Palm Grill which is part of the all-inclusive package or for $25 a person, try Nicole's. We had an amazing dinner there which would have easily cost us over $100 in Boston. The service and the presentation of the food at Nicole's was that of a 5 Star restaurant. Also, if you want to go to a good bar w/no kids, go to Pierre's hideaway which is right on the beach. Have Elias make you the banana drink w/grenadine!All in all, I can't say enough about this resort, it was a perfect getaway and well worth the money and flight (5 hours).

Our visit was May 4 thru May 9, 2003. Before leaving for this trip I read many reviews for St. James Morgan Bay Resort..The good, the bad and even the ugly. I cannot believe anyone could say anything but good things about this resort and the island itself. Everything was excellent...the food was great, staff very helpful, a nice beach, and two pools to chose from, good entertainment, welcome party a nice gesture, and plenty activities to do. Every one did their best to make sure it was an enjoyable vacation. I look forward to returning to St. James Morgan Bay Resort in the future.

We have just this week returned from our honeymoon at this resort, and we loved every minute of it!! The staff are incredibly helpful, and made our stay an absolute pleasure. The resort itself is very well maintained and managed, and it was a real delight to walk down from our room to enjoy a delicious meal in the Palm Grill - book ahead if you want a meal there, it's well worth it. Having said that, the Tradewinds restaurant provides a great level of service in any case.Entertainments at the Sundowner were great, and we appreciated the adults-only pool when we wanted time to ourselves. Many thanks to the staff and management of this resort for making our honeymoon so much more special.

Good Times No Problem

THE GOOD : Staff excelent (maids & resturant staff were fantasic) & Food were very good (palm grill was very good no problems booking) all drinks branded no cheap or local drinks, excellent Bar staff especialy Brian. Good views, excellent sunset THE BAD : Pool badly needs renavation, broken missing tiles, needs sperate kids pool the existing pool is no good for small children. Childrens playground is old and falling down, the access for pushchairs is limited in the top part of the resort and the resturants, Go out and eat lobster at morgan bay, do not go the KFC the staff are extremly rude !, The evening entertainment was bad and needs to be sorted out ASAP it starts at 9 (too late for kids) and makes you want to go bed about 9:15, The laundry service was Bad not ironed or clean Complain they do listen.

Great Holiday at St James Club

We have just spent a wonderful two weeks at St James Club Morgan Bay. Hotel excellent (with the exception of the food at lunch and dinner, which was at times indifferent, even in the Palm Grill). The staff were, without exception, friendly andhelpful and did all possible to make our stay a hassle-free one. The watersport boyswere particularly skilled and caring. The room we had was a de-luxe beachfront andwell worth the extra money for the fantastic view of the bay and Castries in thedistance. Housekeeping entirely satisfactory. The beach was clean and raked and the sea calm and warm. Plenty of sun loungerson the beach and round the pool. Find Joy and book his Adventure Excursion, which is an excellent day out andreasonable in price. Very personal service, a lovely trip down the coast on his boat (we were with Phil and Cornelius) lots of local history and information and a good home-cooked lunch on a small beach then off to the Jalousie Hilton, situated betweenthe Pitons, to snorkel and swim. We would certainly return to St Lucia and St James Club.

Very Dissappointed!

The beach was a major dissappointment. Very small, not well maintained, and the water very murky. Could not even see your hand in the water.Water sports were only offered at certain times and you had to sign up in advance to do them. By the time we would get to the beach at 10:00 a.m., they would tell us that the sailing was already booked up for the day. All 5 people who were allowed to go that day. We never did get to go. The staff mostly sat around under the palm trees or used the facilities themselves instead of assisting guest. Never seen anything like it!Food was just o.k. We were getting very tired of it by the end of the week. Only one restaurant in operation, even though they say there are two. Same menu every night, and every night they were out of something. Jacuzzi was not in operation. We looked all over the resort trying to even find it. I don't think they even have one. Swimming pool was small for the size of the resort and the water cloudy.Definitely would not recommend, and would not return.

Good Sunset Photo.

When you arrive at the airport don't be conned by the porters to carry your bag through the swing doors to the waiting transport. Its only 3 metres. Our driver wanted $10 more for the air conditioning in the bus but we all said no and he still switched it on as it would have been too hot for him. We stayed in St James March 2003. Our first room we asked to be moved from the noisy bar area. The second room we were given was much better, very clean, good views of the bay, although the air conditioning had to be switched off at night due to the noise. Best rooms are number 400 onwards and 500 onwards. The food was very good especially in the Palm Grill which had to be booked in advance, however the Tradewinds fluctuated. Staff were very pleasant, polite and helpful, especially the water sports and bar staff. Our only complaint was when we came to check out, the room they gave us to change in was in a poor state, the shower was just about a trickle of water and the towels had already been used. Not much to see on the island, the drive in volcano was a small pond of boiling mud, you could get the same effect by filling a bath with mud and farting in it. The Botanical Gardens were good and Pigeon Island was well worth the walk to the top of the hill for an amazing view. Castries is best avoided especially when the cruise ships were in, unless you like being pestered by taxi drivers. You can see all the tourist attractions by hiring a car for 2 days max rather than the expensive excursions.

one of best holidays

i went to st.jame's club morgan bay in july 2002. during our holiday was when the hotel changed names from wyndem morgan to st.james club. from a 16 yr old perspective i thoroughly enjoyed the 2 week holiday! made fantatstic friends which probably contributed to the holiday! i really dont know why people are saying the staff are rude?! they were extremly friendly and pleasant. i think u have to realise that u cant just demand the staff round 4 cocktails etc like other guests staying at the hotel were like! it was easy to make a reservation for the restaurant which overlooked the beach u just had to get up in the morning and make one beofre 11am. water sports was fantastic. however one let down was the evening entertainment!! if u dont want to go to bed before 11 :30 i suggest u ask the management like we did if they could arrrange activites for the evening! which they did-they did try their hardest and make a disco 4 us which sadly only about 3 other people turned up to! apart from that food was fantatsic and the pool was CLEAN! the beach is on the smaller side (very narrow) yet clean and well kept.It is a very safe hotel fpr teenages to walk around at night because their r security on every corner which is nice to know that u r safe!!!! i recommend if ur brave to stay up all night and watch the sunrise in the morning whilst sitting on the small pier! it is a memory ill never forget

Resort: Just OK, Island: Beautiful

from A TripAdvisor Member
Positives: great island, tropical rain forests, the Pitons, side trip to the Grenadine Islands highly recommended, food was pretty goodNegatives: unfriendly staff, resort is somewhat rundown (probably why Wyndham dropped them), very small beach that is not white sand, only 2 restaurants (1 is hard to get reservations at), suggest eating a couple nights at the Sandals Grande (10 minutes by taxi); this resort needs some work and needs some customer service training in a big waySuggest staying at Sandals instead for a little more money

Fantastic get away @ St. Lucia

Just a perfect setting and holiday. The staff where there when needed and very polite. Rooms where awesome, clean and well maintained. Food to die for and too much. Beach although on the small side was well maintained, and lots of water sports available. Golf too was free. The brochures do not do the place justice. Small yet large enough to provide good nightly entertainment. There are two pools, with bars and one for adults only, a nice escape, from kids. The only down side is no naturist activities allowed. Well worth the dollars.

Top Local Tips for Gros Islet

See the Pitons! Take a boat ride around the island as it is a fantastic way to see it

excursion prices Just because you arrive with eg. air Canada like me, dosent mean you cant book excursions with other reps like Virgin for example. Who ever has the greatest number of rooms in the resort usually offers the cheapest excursions prices, i saved quite alot of money by checking other travel reps prices and booking thing with them, they are glad to take your money, and I am glad same a few bucks from a little friendly competition.

exceptional My trip was great my family and i enjoyed every bit of it ands i know the girls at the kids club had fun with us. we did not go out of the hotel as the purpose of our trip was to relax and enjoy ourselves and we did just that. try it you will love it
