Beware! They overbook the suites!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at this resort last year, for my Honeymoon. I booked this resort because we wanted an all-inclusive resort and wanted the best there was. I booked my June vacation in February at an agency. I verified the reservation 2 days prior to the wedding and was told that my honeymoon suite was reserved and that there would be no issues. We arrived for check in and were sent down a flight of stairs into a smaller room where we found other couples being told their rooms were not available. The room they tried to put us in (the "deluxe room") was so small that I had to leave the door open in order to fit my anger and disappointment into it. Eventually I got the manager of the hotel on the phone (the general manager that is, the customer service manager wouldn't give us any service except to say that it wasn't her fault), and after a conversation that consisted of me yelling at her for 20 minutes we were upgraded from the honeymoon suite with pool to the ocean view suite with pool. Not a very good way to start what should have been the best vacation of my life. It's a beautiful island, but please save your money, and the hassle, and go somewhere else! PS--when we were checked into the better room the next day I noticed that someone else's name was crossed out and replaced with ours. I guess that would be one of the other complaints you will read about.--Stephanie

t waste your time or money go to Mexico!

We recently statyed at the Golf and Spa Resort in St. Lucia for 7 days. We were there from April 13th to April 20th 2003. It was the worst time we've had anywhere we've been , and we do a lot of traveling. This is no where near a first class resort. The air -conditioning was woefully inaduquate, we had roaches and water bugs in our room. That's just the beginning. Don't bother calling for the shuttle to take you to the main house because it never comes...just walk that's what we were told. When the phones went out for two days we had no way to communicate to the main house or call the terrible shuttle service should they remember to come and pick you up. We notified our travel agent as well as the management of Sandals when we returned. After one month they got back to us with the standard corporate response letter for consumer complaint. There's not enough space for me to write about all the complaints we have and believe me ...we are not complainers. The best is we met two other couples that had the same reaction that we had so we know it wasn't just us ! Want a great vacation go to the Adventura Place & Spa in Mexico. It's half the price and you get treated the right way. They are very customer service oriented unlike Sandals ! I would never recommed Sandals to anyone. Sandals motto is "No Pressure , No problem"...it should be "No Answer!

Loved it!

I guess I'm really shocked by the negative reviews. Some of the comments I can understand (small hotel room, not a white sand beach, party atmosphere, very young couples) but other comments seem to be outrageous....(Non-guests and children roaming on the beach--impossible--since the property is private) and comments about the nudity! A few women went topless, but who cares? It's not illegal, and most Europeans go topless anyway. But I digress! Here's my review! My husband and I celebrated our honeymoon in August 2002 at Sandals St. Lucia. It was the perfect relaxing honeymoon after the stress and excitement of the wedding. The rooms were clean and colorful, and although I keep reading complaints of how small the rooms were--how big of a room do you need?! We were in our room a limited amount of time and it was certainly big enough to sleep in. The staff was friendly, and went out of their way to help. The beach was nice, although not the white sand that was promised in the brochures. The food was good! I would say that you have to be OPEN-MINDED about the food, as the quality of the food (cuts of meat, milk, eggs, etc.) aren't as fine as in the U.S, but you have to remember that St. Lucia is a poor island. Don't expect fine cuisine. So have some seafood! You're on vacation! Try new things instead of complaining that your hamburger tastes funny. There was plenty to do at the resort without paying a penny more, although you could pay for extra excursions if you wanted to. I've since stayed at another all-inclusive (for less money) and was not treated half as well as I was at Sandals. The one negative was that there were really lame frat-type activities going on. On my relaxing vacation, I really don't want to participate in a beer-drinking contest. Also--at 29 and 34, my husband and I were the oldest couple there. I would definitely go back, and I would recommend it as long as you're not a snobby traveler.

Wonderful Honeymoon

from A TripAdvisor Member
Before booking our trip I read several reviews about this resort that gave it very poor ratings. I would love to know who the people are that write those reviews. My husband and I were there on our honeymoon and we could not complain about a thing. Right away our room was upgraded. The staff was unbelievably friendly and always willing to help. There were people constantly cleaning the pools and our room was spotless! The food could have been better but I certainly wouldnt complain about it. One night at dinner, I couldnt make up my mind so they brought out two entrees. The frozen drinks were great! The island is beautiful. We decided to take the day sail and I would highly recommended it, this way you get to see the island, not only the resort. I will say that this resort seems to be the one of the three that is caters more to a younger crowd. We will definitely be visiting some of the other Sandals resorts.

Sandals St. Lucia Getaway

from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I had read the reviews before selecting Sandals St. Lucia Golf Resort and Spa for our honeymoon at the end of March. I must say that there were way more positives to the place then negatives. We found no problems with the food with the exception of dinner at the Pavillion and that was more due to our tastes then the quality of food. Armando's was very enjoyable. Kimonos is best enjoyed with a lively group of people. The Pier at Halcyon is worth the shuttle ride over for dinner. There is plenty to do at the resort as well as outside of it. Take full advantage of the watersports. It's included. We snorkeled, kayaked, wind surfed and went scuba diving. All is included. The day sail to Soufriere is a must. It costs extra but is well worth it. St. Lucia is a beautiful island to explore. There are the locals that seems to persit on selling you something while on a tour but usually a "No Thank You" puts a stop to that. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room we had was excellent. The view was well worth it. The room was not huge. It had a nice king size bed with a TV and desk. The balcony was nice for relaxing anytime during the day. There are three pools to choose from with the main (and biggest) pool being the most popular. Never a problem for getting a chair or a drink. The beach is a bit small compared to some resorts but just as nice. We found only one day of semi-rough surf during the eight days while we were there.All-in-all I would say it was money well spent. We had a wonderful time, never had a hassle and will have a lifetime of wonderful memories.Just remember, "No pressure, no problem!"

Sandals: Really nice, but worth the $?

from A TripAdvisor Member
I went to Sandals Golf & Spa in December. I fell in love with St Lucia. It is truly a beautiful island. The sandals resort was really nice. Beautiful views every way you looked. The rooms were nice, but you could tell that they were older. The bathrooms needed to be re-done, and the air conditioner didn't seem to be cooling my room properly. The staff at this resort were great. Everyone willing to help you out. The food was delicious, but the spread wasn't quite as lavish as I had expected. The beach was small but nice. The pool & pool area was very relaxing. I've been to about 6 different Sandals resorts, and while I think they are all great, I have to ask myself if they are actually worth the money that people spend to stay there. I have stayed at more moderate hotels that in my opinion have had both better food AND better service.

gorgeous Sandals property

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband & I were on our honeymoon & chose this place forall its beautiful property we saw in the brochure all its amenities as an all-inclusive. We thought the property was even more beautiful! The food at the buffet was a Hit or Miss~breakfast had a pretty good selection. La Toc was definitely worth waiting for our reservation. The greatest part of our vacation was enjoying the property & the people we met. Most people were honeymooners or there celebrating their anniversary. I'm 24 & my husband is 29 & it was great to meet people of all ages. We definitely had a great time & will come here again. Our only disappointment was our room even though we did have great view but WAY TOO SMALL. But then again, we were only there to really sleep.

T get what you pay for

My wife (girlfriend at the time) stayed here a couple of years ago, so keep that in mind. Fortunately, I won the trip in a sales contest, so wasn't "really" out of pocket any money for the trip. I'd have been very ticked off had I been. This resort is VASTLY oversold, and way overpriced. I've since travelled to PDC, Greece, St. Thomas, Antigua, and a few other spots and can say without any reservation that the Sandals St. Lucia Golf Resort is a rip off. The rooms are a joke (small, moldy, completely dull), the staff (generally) were pretty lazy and not much fun ... apart from the bar staff (though that could have been the drinks talking). You had to line up to get a ticket for your restaurant choice (maybe they changed this, but what a pain in the arse this was), and the restaurants were so-so. There were stray cats all over the resort, under the tables, on the tables, you name it. When they weren't rubbing against your legs, the staff were chasing them around with burlap sacks trying to trap them. Lovely. There were lots of good things about the resort, but for the $ they charge, you can do WAY better in St. Lucia. Way better.

No Pressure, No Problem

We have just returned from a 11 night stay at the Sandals Golf, St Lucia (March 2003). We read reviews on this site before going and were a little apprehensive at some of the things we read. Within a day on the resort we realised we had been worrying for nothing. We stayed in a one bedroom suite (free upgrade) overlooking one of the pools and the beach. The room was on 2 levels with a very large living area downstairs and spacious bedroom upstairs. The hotel is 10 years old so don't expect modern decor, however the furnishings were all of a high standard, room was always clean and all of the paintwork was recently updated. The air conditioner was a bit noisy, however this didn't keep us awake at all. Staff were all very helpful and friendly, their main concern was that you had the best holiday ever. All 6 restaurants were nice, our least favourite was Armandos (Italian), but the Japanese, French and Carribean were all superb. We didn't visit the other 2 resorts during the day but we had a meal in each and they both appeared nice. The Halcyon was the least plush although the meal we had at Marios was very good. The Grande, being the newest of the 3 resorts, was tastefully decorated but we ate at the London Pub and it was dissapointing. Entertainment, both day and night, was of a high standard and there was always something to do. Do take advantage of the watersports, the scuba diving was not to be missed. The excursions are quite pricey, we chose the day sail, which is the most popular ($80 US) and were a little dissapointed. The Volcano was not as impressive as imagined, however the botanical gardens were very pretty. Vendors were not a problem on the beach, but when on excursions we did see a few, however if you simply tell them your not interested they will move on. All in all we've had a great holiday and will definately reccommend this resort and any other Sandals. Remember their moto "no pressure, no problem"

s cracked up to be

from A TripAdvisor Member
First af all, St. Lucia is beautiful and the air semlls wonderful. You notice as soom as you get off the plane. The people were unfailingly friendly. I cannot wait to go back to St. Lucia. Sandals on the other hand, just wasn't what it's cracked up to be. Of course maybe I was expecting to much. After watching their video I expected a sophisticated, if not, some what subdued resort. Instead I think every teen Bride and Groom honeymoned there that week. My husband and I actually got married at the resort and it was perfect!! That is the only reason we felt that we had not gotten ripped off. I felt bad for our friends who joined us, personally I feel they did get ripped off!! This just is NOT a $5,000. a week place. The food was average at best. (I know everyones taste buds are different, there were 8 of us and, every one had the same opinion on that) The rooms were furnished nicely but were NOT CLEAN! There was mold in our shower the entire week, no way someome cleaning the tub could of not seen it. The drapes also had mold on them. The floor in the entry was the only thing that seemed to get swept and mopped regularly. The small pool in the middle of the property looked as if it had not been cleaned in quite a while. It wasn't a bad vacation after, all I married my best friend and it is St. Lucia!! For the money though, in my opinion, I couldn't recommend this resort. Sandals Spa and Golf resort is just trading on the Sandals name. I hope all the other resorts in this chain are better, although I'll never know.I know this is long but, I do have to compliment the bar and wait staff they were all fantastic, wonderful attitudes and always with a quick smile.Especially Geraldine she was hilarious!!
