Wonderful... best vacation ever

My husband and I just returned from St. Lucia. We stayed at Rendezvous from 11/16/2003-11/23/2003. The resort could not have been better. The food was wonderful. In fact, the buffets were so delicious and eating in the open air terrace was so romantic, we decided against making reservations for the air conditioned restaurant. The bar stocked high premium alcohol and the mixed drinks were too easy to drink!We stayed in a Verandah Suite which was really nice. The room was very clean and romantically furnished. The body shower in the bathroom was a definite plus. The balcony (verandah) had comfy chairs and high side walls for privacy. We walked by the Garden Rooms and they looked a bit run down. I would recommend the Verandah Suite or a Luxury Ocean View Suite (looked really great from the outside, but a bit more expensive than the Verandah Suite).The grounds and gardens were gorgeous. This was my favorite attribute of the resort. It was lovely to walk around in the evening and listen to the toads. I saw grounds keepers working hard every day.The beach was wonderful. We were NEVER harassed by anyone. The few locals I saw selling necklaces and such were respectful and waited to be approached. The resort had 2-3 security fellows on the beach, which may explain the lack of harassment.Everyone at the resort was really friendly.Oh, and the airport. It never once bothered us, and my husband and I enjoyed watching the small planes. They are not loud and not very frequent.

Fantastic holiday

We spent a week at the Rendezvous in early October and really felt we would have liked to stay for a bit longer. The hotel has a great atmosphere - things to do if you want to but also the perfect place to relax. We paid the upgrade for a Verandah suite and were not disappointed as the room was newly refurbished, very clean and comfortable, with the verandah facing on to immaculate gardens. All the staff went out of their way to make you feel welcome and the restaurant/bar staff were excellent. We took advantage of some of the water sports available and had a great time with other people we met.
Special mention goes to Pauline, one of the Co-ordinators who made aquafit and tai chi such fun. We last visited St Lucia 24 years ago (though a different hotel) and were pleasantly surprised to see how things have moved on without spoiling this beautiful island. One huge improvement was the quality and choice of the food - both the buffet restaurant and especially the Trysting Place at the hotel were excellent. We would certainly return again.

Great Holiday

The accommodation was average as was the food. The staff are absolutely brilliant. The setting is lovely and the gardens are wonderful. The location is very good. There were a couple of problems - the water was cut off for several hours - so we got in one of the with a bottle of champagne until it ws turned on again and on our last day, a water pipe burst and the restaurant was flooded. They were minor incidents, it was excellent holiday. Its great to go to a hotel for mixed couples only and no children.

Wonderful Wedding

If anyone is looking to be married in St Lucia, the Rendezvous is the place. The Sandals chains were charging quite a bit extra for weddings, and the Rendezvous offered the service for free. That was the deciding factor for us. Our wedding was beautiful, we couldn't have been happier. They offer lots of extras for your ceremony, but the fees are reasonable. They have a wedding advisor that you can work with in advance of your stay at the resort via e-mail.

For those not getting married: The resort is gorgeous! We had an oceanfront room, and it was unbelievable. I highly recommend the room upgrade.

Perfect Chill Out Holiday

What a perfect holiday.We went to St Lucia to celebrate our Silver Wedding, and the Rendezvous resort was the perfect place for it.
Everything about the resort is perfect.You are made welcome from start to finish,the staff cannot do enough for you, the accommodation is very high in standards, the surroundings are beautiful and romantic, the food is just excellent, especally in the Trysting resturant. You can be as active or as lazy as you choose.If you want to chill out the surroundings are perfect, with beautiful gardens and pool areas, or if you prefer the beach, the hotel is set right on Malybar beach with plenty of sunbeds,parasols or palm trees for shade if that lovely carribean sun gets to much,and if you need a drink to cool you down, just put your flag in the sand and the staff will attend to your every need.If you want to be active choose from pool vollyball,beach vollyball,golf tennis watersports, archery, bikerides and lots more.If you are a diver you are in paradise.The diving is unbelievable, and the dive team are wonderful people and very very professional.They are Julie,Mikel, Paul and Ras.If you are not a diver the team will go through the basics in the pool and then take you on a shallow dive in the sea and dont worry they will more than take care of you.Have a go YOU WONT REGRET IT. if you still dont fancy having a go at the diving, go and meet the team anyway and ask Ras to sing for you, he is a star and you will never forget him.The Rendezvous is known as the escape for romantics and there is one sure thing we shall be going back there hopfully sooner than later!! Superb hotel ,facilities, staff , and management. We married there in August 03 and it was the best 2 weeks of our lifes. !st class room overlooking the gardens pure luxury, humming birds on the verandah , sunsets to take your breath away . Satff that just dont stop making you happy . From the managers cocktail party to the bar staff they were all fantastic people, A special mention to Dino and Pauline huge talent for making people happy, well done rendezvous we will see you soon

t Get your Hopes Up!

Just returned from a weeks stay at Rendezvous with my boyfriend. I only rated the resort average it may be a 4-star resort in St. Lucia but I dont think it will be a 4-star if it were in U.S. or U.K. LOCATION: Situated at the end of the runaway of St. Lucias smaller airport in Castries, we were often woken up when the first flight took off shortly after 6am. Its not much of a problem during the day as there are only about 15-20 flights a day and the last flight leaves 9-10ish at night. Its 1.5 hours drive from Hewanorra Airport (where most international flights arrive) a very bumpy, exhausting transfer especially if you have just come off a 8-hour flight. STAFF: Activities staff (especially watersports and diving coordinators) and bar staff were terrific and very friendly. The attitude of restaurant staff though is general indifference and borders on being rude at times. ROOM & FACILITIES: Most are really showing their age even though Rendezvouss website says they have just finished renovations, our room (especially the bathroom) was still looking pretty worn out with one side of bathroom mirror broken and our air-con sounding like a cyclone when its on. The gym equipment was especially ill-maintained which was a real shame. FOOD: Absolutely fabulous breakfast with hot food being cooked to order but lunch usually looks like leftovers from dinner the night before. E.g. Bolognese sauce becomes nachos for lunch next day, roast beef becomes roast beef salad the next day. (I got sick on our fourth day, hence not that impressed with the lunch buffet.) Overall quality of food is reminiscent of large conferences cooked pasta/grilled steak/grilled chicken and pours your own sauce over it, steam rice with curries etc. Each day of the week is a specific themed dinner but nothing too exciting like Sunday Hot Roast Night, Thursday Barbecue night etc. I was so sick of the food I was glad I was leaving after a week.Overall Pluses: All inclusive (no tipping allowed), good watersports (including intro dive), right on beach front, excellent bar service and selection of drinks, tuition available on most activities; Overall Negatives: Mediocre food, even at the a-la-carte restaurant, facilities are all showing their age, no TV in room, services at the spa was disappointing.The Garden View room (lowest grade) we paid, on a per-night basis ex airfares, was three times MORE than our oceanview room on an NCL cruise (also 4-star) a couple of months ago. The quality of the food and service we received on the cruise was so much better than Rendezvous that I will probably stick with a cruise if visiting the Caribbean again in the near future. Other couples we met visited Le Sport (sister resort to Rendezvous) and said that it was much better. The price differential is about 200 pounds extra to stay at Le Sport for 7 nights with free spa treatments thrown in so if I made the choice again, I would definitely pick LeSport over Rendezvous.

After a long hot journey we were greeted at the hotel by fruit punch and ice cold towels! The staff were fantastic and couldn't be more helpful, the food was first class and the choice of drinks excellent, especially the champagne on tap! We were married after 8 days and the wedding co-ordinators were very helpful and took away any unnecessary stress, our room was decorated whilst we had our ceremony and the next morning (not too early) we were served a wonderful breakfast in bed.
The atmosphere was so relaxed it was almost like being at a home from home - it might not have been a 5* resort, but it certainly felt like it. St Lucia is a beautiful island and the Rendezvous is a great resort for couples. This wasn't our first all inclusive holiday, but has certainly been the best!!

Spent 8 luxurious days on a honeymoon at the RENDEZVOUS resort.

Positives: First stay at an all-inclusive so no longer fit any of my pants, the food was that good. Was worried only two dining options would limit food choices, but was way wrong- everyday buffet had new menu and the formal restaurant changed every 3 days. Stayed in a very spacious, clean and cool room with a verandah, tastefully decorated, not necessary to get oceanview (actually closer to pool then ocean).
Staff were warm and very accomodating and will make it easy to participate in the many resort activities. FREE INTRO SCUBA LESSON and water skiing, etc. Read that most guests would be stuffy Brits; only half right, mostly English but fun blokes and birds, special shout out to JON and PRIYA, see you soon!

Not-so-Negatives: Cemetary and airstrip next door, literally, (though 'da planes' gave it a fantasy island feel ), no private beaches on ST.
Lucia- so locals will be ever present (easy to mix with the natives, if so desire) due to close proximity of capital city CASTRIES (if you sightsee in the city be prepared for a barrage of taxi and vendor solicitors, and a palm reader named GimmeMonee), too many activity options provided by the resort, (my poor wife kept reminding me that we were on a honeymoon and not an activities marathon- sorry honey, love you ;)

TIPS: Fly into VIGIE/GEORGE CHARLES airport unless you want a 1 1/2 hr bumpy car ride (though by helicopter from other airport I hear is fun).
Bring mosquito repellant, if going during rainy season FEB-SEPT?
Prepare for sudden downpours. No TV's in rooms, but do have 110V for portable video devices (Nights can be slow.) Go to Rodney Bay for nightlife, sight seeing, shopping, etc.

Overall nice, cozy property, good deal for an AI, and plenty of things to do, be it of a sporting, relaxing, or romantic nature. Mention on honeymoon for free goodies.

We stayed at the Rendezvous for a week on the 22nd June and absolutely loved it.

This was a our 5th visit to the Caribbean and our first to St Lucia. I was expecting the Rendezvous to be good as we've paid a little more than we usual would for a Caribbean holiday and it wasn't just good, it was excellent! We stayed in a standard room over looking the beautiful garden and had no complaints... no TV but there was a CD player in the room.

You certainly get more for your money in the Rendezvous as we found out that virtually everything was included in the 'All Inclusive' package... even 1 scuba dive a day. There was plenty of activities you can participate in the during the day... or you can just chill out by the pool. There was 2 pools to choose from which was a good size but we felt it could have been cleaner, this was the only thing that let the Rendezvous down. By the way, the beach is golden sand not white sand as St Lucia is a volcanic island.

The Rendezvous has two Restaurants and both offered great food. We were impressed with the variety everyday and by Caribbean standard it was very good... definitely compliments to the Chefs!

The best thing we found about the Rendezvous was the staff. The staff were very friendly and approachable. Whether it was the bar staff or the gardners, they had a smile or a greeting. We also visited Rendezvous' sister hotel Le Sport which is a 5 star hotel. Fabulous looking hotel, shame about the staff.... they weren't as friendly as the Rendezvous staff.

This was a our 5th visit to the Caribbean and our first to St Lucia.
Overall, we loved it. The island itself is so lush and beautiful with such friendly people. The Rendezvous certainly helped in making our holiday enjoyable and we definitely plan to go back there.

Use Common Sence Take the taxis, but get a set rate in advance. Don't buy anything for the first price asked of you. Use caution, you are not at home unless you live here.
