In short, The service was very poor at the Ginger Lily, the hotel has an insect problem and tries to mask its rodent problem by having around a rodent eating cat. The service at the Ginger Lily was so bad that we checked out of the hotel 2 days early and relocated to another hotel. After we left the hotel, Ginger Lily tried to charge my credit card for the remaining nights. I am fortunate that my bank caught the fraudulent charge though. I wouldn't recommend Ginger Lily.

Our trip to St. Lucia was for our daughter's wedding. It was also during the St. Lucia jazz festival. The strip where we stayed at the Ginger Lily Hotel was very busy with many tourists. We felt very secure as the hotel is gated with a posted security employee. The staff at the Ginger Lily was very friendly and accomodated our needs. We met some lovely people there, guests and staff alike. We would recommend this hotel both for its comfort and affordability. The daily towel sculptures let on the beds were a very nice touch. Top Local Tips for Castries

Dumys Restaurant easy to find opposite the Scotia Bank in Rodney Bay this is a simple restaurant that I suspect most people walk past but DON'T, the food is the best we had on the island. Owners Yee and Dumy are brilliant and ask for whatever you want even if its not on the menu.

Car rental We rented a car in St Lucia with Cool Breeze. They are a good local firm, and when we had a problem with a flat tyre they came striaght out to where we were and delivered us a new car. They have sites all over the island and a good range of vehicles from what we saw and their website. We would encourage other tourists like us to drive around St Lucia, the roads have been incorrectly labelled by tourists as 'bad'. We didnt find the roads bad at all. All the main roads are tarmac (some very newly apparently since the cricket in 2007). Only some backroads are dirt/stoney. some of the roads on the west coast are windy roads but I cant see this would be a problem unless you are a very nervous driver or have been pretty sheltered travel wise and are just used to motorways/huge freeways. You can get around and see the island easily at your own pace - we found finding our way VERY easy and got to see places where tourists don't go own organised tours.

Friday night street party. Make sure not to miss the street party in Gros Islet on the Friday night. Great atmosphere, good selection of food and drink, great music and people!
