Just returned 02/12/05 from St Lucia. Bay Gardens Hotel is fantastic! I would encourage to try this establishment. Short distance from beach, (10 min walk, 2 min free shuttle.) Food is excellent, hotel rooms & ground clean & neat. Staff friendly efficient. Will return here again!

Historical Traveller Reviews of Bay Gardens Hotel

from vonvon149
Myself & a girlfriend visited St Lucia on an Island hop from Barbados and the hotel was reccommended by a customer in the travel agents in Barbados. The hotel was very clean and the staff, especially the maintenance man Curt was very nice. The hotel manager was also very helpful and stayed and had a lovely chat with us when we returned from a night out. The front desk was always manned, the food was nice, if a bit expensive and our room was always clean. We would definately stay ther again, but this time with our partners. The location is also very good for nightlife and shopping.

t believe the Hype

from A TripAdvisor Member
The best word to describe The Bay Gardens Hotel is cozy. Its reasonably priced, has well maintained facilities and the rooms are clean and comfortable. The complimentary fruit punch tastes great!

The only drawback is that the staff are not overly friendly. As a matter of fact the receptionist was not warm at all.

So my advice is to go with an openmind but don't believe the hype that this hotel has the friendliest staff.

Great, friendly service

from SouthernBrit
My wife and I have just returned from a 9 day stay in the Bay Gardens hotel and couldn't have enjoyed it more. We were recommended the hotel by friends who had stayed there in the spring and who know our tastes so it wasn't a surprise that we found our stay relaxing and well served by the very friendly, attentive and well trained staff. The whole garden environment is very pleasant (their web site pictures are very representative of the way things are). Although this is the very low season and for many of the nights we were the only tourists staying there (lots of business people though), we had the impresion that the staff would be just as good with a higher occupancy. The shuttle bus was almost at our order and took us to the beach when we wanted and collected us by arrangement. Even took us free to Pigeon Island saving us EC$20 in cab fares.

No question we would stay there again if we are lucky enough to go back to St Lucia.

Friendly and Professional Authentic Caribbean hotel

from divinzia
For $125 a night (that was the business rate, but I'm sure there's cheaper), including all taxes and a really satisfying Caribbean breakfast, this is excellent value. The rooms are perfectly adequate - very colourful, well appointed. Nice little balconies. Basic bathrooms (but shut the blinds to keep the mossies out!), kettle (with mugs and coffee!), iron, board, etc.

What really impressed me was that I called in on my last night and asked for a breakfast item that wasn't on the menu (saltfish and ackee). Helen managed to have the chef make some fresh as I would be missing breakfast the next day and it was in my room within twenty minutes. The wake-up call also was a double one - one to stir me, one to get me out of bed. I appreciated that!

Wireless internet around the pool, very professional staff, great prices and a stone's throw to Rodney Bay restaurants, this is definitely worth considering. There is a shuttle to Reduit Beach, and it has a small pool in the center courtyard (beware - Thursday night is a very loud Manager's Rum Punch party!)

My only real complaint is the very rough sheets - I think some fabric softener might be a good investment but I like the fact that this is an eco-friendly resort, so perhaps that explains the overly crispiness of the bedding!

I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

A private oasis

from psw21
I stayed in the Bay Gardens for two weeks in June - July 2005 with my wife and 15 month old son and cannot recommend it enough.

The rooms were well proportioned, sizeable enough that my son could walk up and down to his heart's content while we hid indoors from the storms. Our rooms were cleaned even when we only left the room at 3pm, an unusual feature in any hotel, but especially useful with a small child, where timing is more fluid. The cot provided was a permanent cot, rather than a travel cot - better for our baby.

The staff were wonderful, and the hotel had the impression of one under excellent management.

We encountered a few problems with our room, all minor and all resolved almost immediately. With one fault, we were compensated by management for reduced comfort for one night.

Our overall impression of St Lucia was not as positive, and the hotel felt like a real oasis from it all. While the island is touted now as an ideal family destination, we think that this must be aimed at older children, say 8+, as most activities are aimed at adults and older children, the facilities also not designed for buggies / strollers.

Its got to be Bay Gardens for any St. Lucia vacation

from A TripAdvisor Member
WOW! it cant be over already.

that's all I can say.

Bay Gardens and its service must be the yardstick to rate all hotel service in the caribbean by.

I have stayed at many hotels in the caribbean but the service and the staff at bay gardens make it number one for good experience.

A staff that is always willing to go the extra mile to help you and what makes it even more wonderful are the two managers, the Parles, they lead by example "always rememebering the guests is important, no matter what".

The two of them are always on the ground, talking with visitors , helping in the bar area, its really like your own personal service.

The rooms are large and always clean, the AC works, food is excellent. As a guest , along with 27 other friends, we could ask for more and we stayed for 7 days and never had one complaint.

I must single out some people, the reception, both male and female are very helpful, courteous and warm. Rosemarie, Lindella and Nacha, my favourite girls, always knowledgable about whats happening, You gotta ask for them.

I recommend Bay Gardens hotel to any visitor who is traveling to St. Lucia and wanting somewhere for an enjoyable experience.

The Best Little Hotel On St. Lucia

from summer74
Hi, I wanted to write a review of my latest stay in St. Lucia at the Bay Gardens Hotel. This is my 2nd time visiting St. Lucia and 2nd time staying at the Bay Gardens Hotel. I enjoyed my stay each and every time I visited St. Lucia and the Bay Gardens Hotel. My friend and I arrived on May 13th and stayed until May 24th, 2006. We had a suite with a kitchenette in it, which pretty much it was like living in a small studio apartment. They had everything you needed to cook a full meal, all the dishes you needed, etc. There are two supermarkets in either direction when leaving the hotel and is within walking distance. The food at Bay Gardens Hotel is very good and reasonable, if you don't want to cook for yourself. Upon my return back to Bay Gardens, I was welcomed by the staff that remembered me from the year before when I visited and stayed. The staff is very professional and courteous to all people, paying attention to everyone's needs and very helpful with anything you might need. This hotel has a top notch staff working there and it shows, I can't wait to get back. Internet service is free of charge, so that is a nice gesture. I use it just to keep in touch with family back home while away and keep track of some business. You can organize any tour with the help of the people at the front desk, arrange car rental, taxi services, etc. They have entertainment 3 nights a week. They have a Managers Rum Punch party one night, a Caribbean BBQ night with live entertainment and a Karoake night. Other than that this hotel is normally quiet, as it is a business type hotel, but very good accommodations. During my stays there, the rooms were always very clean, all public areas very clean. This visit to Bay Gardens Hotel recently had me wondering if I would like to try a new hotel, possibly all inclusive, but I like how we could walk to just about everything that we wanted to do. Nightlife, Restaurants, the beach, supermarket, malls, etc. are all within walking distance, which is a major bonus, not much in taxi expenses if you don't rent a vehicle.

I hope this review helps anyone that might be considering staying at this property. I am also a travel agent and would recommend this hotel to anyone. My friend and I also did a land island tour and a catamaran/land tour. We enjoyed both of them, but I enjoyed the land tour with a local taxi guy much more than the catamaran/land tour, due to the fact that the land tour was just two of us, not 80 people all together.

Bay Gardens to the Rescue

from Exstacy
My friend and I traveled to St. Lucia for the first time during the 2005 Jazzfest this past May for our birthdays. Through Air Jamaica we booked a flight and hotel stay at the Coconut Bay Resort. About one week before the trip we were informed that our flights were canceled by Air Jamaica but, our hotel was secure. Ignoring our gut feelings about bad luck, we ventured to the island using another airline carrier but still to Coconut Bay which turned out to be a big disappointment due to the location, availability of facilities and accessibility to the rest of the island.

Luckily on our flight we heard mention of the Bay Gardens hotel by an individual who commented that she wouldn't stay anyplace else in St. Lucia. After two days of trying to rough it, we decided to take a risk and phone our airport angel at the Bay Gardens which should have been difficult since we did not have her last name. To our surprise, the hotel staff at the Bay Garden knew right away who we were referring to. They located our little airport angel and put us into contact with the hotel manager, Berthia who immediately made a room available to us at an amazing rate lower than the Coconut Bay within two hours. She also offered to send a driver from our hotel to help avoid the price gauging we had been experiencing at Coconut Bay.

We found the hotel to be extremely quaint and personable due to its size and location. Before long, the staff also knew us on a first name basis and accomodated our needs from the time we arrived until we left for home. By exceeding our expectations, we both agreed to go ahead and start making plans to return to the Jazzfest 2006 and to stay at the Bay Gardens along with our airport angel next year.

Keep up the good work.

What a fantastic hotel - a hidden jewel !

from The_Travelling_Fish
The Bay Gardens hotel is simply the best hotel I have ever stayed at and I have travelled extensively throughout the world.

I took my two daughters and my son to St Lucia to attend my best friends wedding and we had to book the Bay Gardens blind without any indication as to how good or bad it would be.

My only single complaint was with the reception staff and I will leave that to the end becuase they were a tiny blip on what otherwise was a fantastic stay.

The rooms are spotless, our cleaner was Bernadette and she took so much pride in cleaning the rooms it could have easily have been her own house, fresh flowers in the room every day and she even cleaned up after my three kids which was far beyond her duties, she was even embarassed when I gave her a huge tip at the end of our 10 days - she was awesome.

The two small pools are plenty for what you need, they are spotless and cleaned every day, the grounds are landscaped and attended to every day. Lots of sunbeds and no Germans in site (plenty of Canadians though !!).

The resteraunt was out of this world, the silver service from all of the waitresses was second to none and not only were they all very attractive (come on I am a single dad !!), they were immaculate in terms of their dress and presentation, polite, always had a smile, even at 7am.

The bar is great, open air and has everything from everywhere - Piton beer is great and cold !!

The food is also fantastic, we only ate out one night, the rest of the time we ate in the hotel and the themed nights with the barby and the band were superb.

The free shuttle to the beach was always outside and the taxi drivers are very friendly and although they want all your business for the whole of your trip, a simple no thanks is fine and you get all their travel advice for free.

One cabby based at the hotel even took us to the other side of the island when the tour company let us down, he had his girlfriend in the cab with him as they had just been shopping so he halved the bill and would not take no for an answer even though it was a 10 seater bus with 4 spare seats !!

Finally, the reception staff are a real downer, they are miserable and very aloof, they seem to treat the other staff with contempt and although they were good at what they did, they always seemed bothered when you spoke to them and when we arrived the guy on reception tried to fleece me for a tip for placing us in 'the best room in the hotel' as he put it, even though I had paid for the best room in the hotel - don't let them put you off tho !

St Lucia is a truly fantastic place, it blows Florida, Jamaica, Barbados & Dom Rep out of the water and I have been to them all.

Wonderful St Lucian people who appreciate your US$ and who will do anything for you without even thinking to ask for a tip.

You have to go to St Lucia and stay at the Bay Gardens, you won't regret it.

A true vacation

from da91
The St. Lucians are very friendly and the island so interesting that the idea of not exploring it is ridiculous. As a base, the Bay Gardens in Rodney Bay was an excellent choice. I spent a week there with friends. I found the rooms immaculate and well-appointed: fridge, coffee pot, hairdryer. The beds are comfortable and on more than one day, the maid left a tropical flower on our bed. The Bay Gardens is not on a beach but their free shuttle will take you's right around the corner. They have 2 small pools and a jacuzzi, all well maintained. All the rooms have a balcony or patio door. The rooms are arranged in courtyards which are beautifully landscaped and manicured. They more than make up for no beach. Opt for the all-inclusive breakfast. The food is good and plenitful. There are lots of interesting dinner options within walking distance. I highly recommend the Trattoria del Mare. The food is prepared by Scilian native Chef Antonio and is 5 star in my estimation. Try his sauteed snapper for 2 and don't miss his special Tiramisu either. I would be very comfortable returning to the Bay Gardens and to beautiful St. Lucia.

Top Local Tips for Castries

Taxis vs. Rental cars Unless you are very familiar with driving on the left in sometimes high traffic volume, you are much better off relying on the taxis ( with blue plates, only ). They are accommodating and affordable. I came to rely on one in particular, if you email me, I'll forward his info.

Airport Transport The hotel should arrange transport to and from the international airport

Unicorn The tall ship Unicorn tour is great with a wonderful staff. The food at The Red Snapper is also excellent.
