Top Local Tips for Basseterre
Windy Season Try to avoid being here during the windy season, our trip in March '08 was marred by high cool winds. The topography of the land funnels the trade winds off the Atlantic and they seemed to get aimed right at the Marriott, situated as it is on lowlands between the Northern mountains and the southern hills.
Beach shacks, fine dining, taxi's We found the "beach shack" dining to be great - we loved, loved , loved the fish taco at Ship Wreak, we only saw one monkey there, but better than none - we had fun at the Thursday night bonfire at Shiggiddy Shack - for fine dinng we loved Marshalls - we there twice - We actually found the Island very reasonable - taxi's usually not more than $10 for 9 people - beer $2.00 - even at the resort where you expect to pay more you didn't - it made it very nice
