Top Local Tips for Cabo Rojo

Wish we had this convenience Trolleys in Old San Juan are free. You can ride and get off or on at any of the designated, clearly-marked stops. The open air trolleys will take you to El Morro and other sites of interest. The closed, air conditioned trolleys will take you throughout the streets of Old San Juan. Really saves a lot of walking. The bus rides are $.75. You can ride to the end of the line at the terminal in Old San Juan all the way to Plaza des Americas. Most people can help you with which bus to take, or you can ask the driver if you're on the correct bus. You may have to wait an hour sometimes for the bus and it may be crowded. We tried to avoid traveling at the end of the day as people are going home after work and you may have to stand, but with each stop, people get off vacating a seat. We managed to take buses early enough most days to avoid the crush. It's a good way to meet people. Some speak English but everyone is very friendly and will try to answer your questions.

Sail & Snorkel Marauder Don't go with these guys for 3 reasons: (1) It's a rip off. They will take you to only 2 spots for snorkeling, both of which are easily accessible from the beaches (i.e. you can just swim out from a public beach to get to these spots); (2) The owners of the boat, a couple, are not welcoming in the slightest. In fact the wife is wound so tight that she will tell you precisely where to sit and where to put everything little thing you brought on board with you, as apparently there is only one right spot for you and your stuff. She also stands in front of the entrance to the cabin, so unless you have to use the bathroom (which they don't even offer until you ask), you're not getting in. Basically they make you feel like you should be so unbelievably grateful that they allowed you to even be on the boat in the first place (never mind the fact that you paid $100 for the experience); (3) Their idea of a "gourmet meal" is a chicken caesar salad - that's it. No sides, not bread, nothing!
