Everything was to my liking. Even though I was a local, the staff all treated me and my husband like everybody else. Way to go staff! The atmosphere is very relaxing (as I slept most of the time!) The food was excellent, especially Christmas dinner and the rooms are very spacious, comfortable, sanitary and airy. The price was the best we could find. My husband and I wondered how this hotel can offer so much for so little. This is my hotel as I keep going back year after year.

Fantastic place-watch the men

from A TripAdvisor Member
I had an amazing fortnight at the RDCC, thanks to the other guests I met and the beautiful weather. The only downside to the holiday were the men-the male entertainment staff in particular-complete sleazes! I ended up hiding the last week so as to avoid their constant advances and groping hands and they made me feel extremely uncomfortable. The fact that I wore an engagement ring was of no importance to them as my fiance was not there with me. I would return to this place in an instant, but only with a man by my side to keep the pesky men away!

You get what you pay for

We just got back from a week at RDCC, Apr. 25th, my wife and I and 2 daughters, 6 and 14. My wife and I went to Couples-Ocho Rios two years ago and wanted to downgrade a little because we were taking the kids this time. So, I feel a helpful way to review RDCC is by comparison, because you really do get what you pay for. There are 3 important points of comparison: food and drink, accommodations, and activities/entertainment. The food and drink is the most glaring difference. This is a 3 star resort and the food is 3 star. I believe that food is a main criterion for the star ratings, and the food at Couples was definitely 3 stars better. The 2 extra restaurants at RDCC offer better food and a nice atmosphere, but don't really cater to kids taste buds. If you are kidless, you must go to these restaurants every night because the food at the buffet is almost painfully average, and after breakfast and lunch everyday it is a nice romantic change. This is the comparison I made: RDCC=Old Country Buffet, and Couples=Country Club Buffet. As for the drinks, just ok. We were so glad that we read about the small cups because the 20 oz. insulated cups we brought were life savers. We took these big fat insulated coffee mugs from Wal-Mart and the ice never disappeared, and the Red Stripe was always cold! :-) Jamaican accommodations are rarely palatial no matter what the star rating. Tile floors, simple decor, basic bathrooms. The cottages at RDCC are a must and the oceanfront ones are worth the extra money. Just make sure you have paid for one beforehand. Also, if you reserve a Gardenview cottage, it DOES NOT guarantee you a cottage. They will try to stick you in a Royal Suite, which is neither royal, nor sweet. We complained enuf and got a cottage. We realized the best thing would have been to just pay the extra and make sure we had an oceanfront cottage. But once again, the accommodations are well worth the money and actually slightly exceed the 3 star rating. There were actually more included actiat, Kayaks, Sailboats, Paddleboats, as well as Scuba, Snorkeling, Volleyball and of course lounging and drinking. :-) The nightly entertainment is the same each night and is just ok. The guys and gals of the entertainment staff were really great, and most of the bartenders are very, very nice! (some are just more quiet) They all make the day very fun with entertaining games and activities. I would give them all about 4 stars. So, overall I would say that RDCC is a good deal for the money, and a vacation is always what you make of it. In dollars, we would have paid almost twice as much at a 6 star family resort, but things might not have been twice as good. I would definitely recommend this resort if you are budget conscious. You get what you pay for, and at RDCC, you get a little more.

SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!!

First of all, everyone in the Western Hemisphere got a room, except us. We were given the run around that the Hut wasn't ready.(you stay in a Hut). The wonderful and friendly staff (they were as nice as a Nazi SS guard) then said that the key was lost and they had to make a new key. My wife then started crying, it was a Academy Award winning performance, but the key all of a sudden appeared out of no where. We have been to the Bahamas, Cancun and Puerto V. I have never been treated in such a manner in my life. The staffs in the Bahamas can sometimes be annoying, but nothing can top this place. Save your money, spend a little more and go someplace where you can enjoy yourselves. I will NEVER go to that island AGAIN!!!! I would have rather been at work!!!!!!!!

Just returned from second trip and going back for more!!

We took our first trip to the Royal DeCameron, Club Caribbean in March of 2002. We enjoyed the trip so much that we returned on April 14 of this year for our second week long trip!If you are looking for a "party" hotel and a lot of night life, this is definitely not the place for you. If, however, you are looking for a relaxing, quiet, family vacation, this is a great spot!We did have a small problem regarding our rooms when we first arrived, but after some discussion with the front desk staff (who I must admit are not the most helpful group), everything was straightened out. However, if we had not gotten what we wanted, we would have made do...I was not going to let that ruin my vacation!I have nothing but praise for the rest of the resort staff. They are all friendly and determined to make your stay enjoyable! We brought our 3 children with us on both trips, and the staff are very friendly and courteous to the kids too! I was never worried about letting my older kids roam on their own from time to time. There is a kid's club available for the younger kids too.The food is wonderful! If you go hungry while staying here, then you are the pickiest eater in the world! I have to concur with some of the other reviewers who labeled the entertainment as "lame". The house singer is not the best, but the shows were a lot of fun! There is always something to do, from pool aerobics to snorkeling, swimming, peddle boats, banana boat, tennis, etc. I was also very comfortable leaving the resort to go to the local shops. As someone else stated, usually a simple "no thank you" would be enough to deter any street vendors.Dunns River Falls is definitely a day trip that I would recommend. My kids and I also loved "Luminous Lagoon". If you do take a trip to the Lagoon, I would recommend wearing your swimsuit. We were told not to by the woman booking our tour, so I was very disappointed when we found out that we could swim in the "glowing" waters. My kwait to go back to the Royal DeCameron, and I would highly recommend it!

great music, great food, great people, great resort.

my husband and I just returned from club caribbean on monday April 14th 2003. We stayed 1 week and had a great time. The resort is small, but very nice and well maintained. If you are looking for a long stretch of beach this is not the place, but if you want the music, the food, the people, and the ocean then this is the place to be. We enjoyed the jamaican music "reggae" that was played all of the time and the staff were awesome (except "some" of the front desk staff who were kinda rude). The food was very good compared to punta cana where we went last year. Neither one of us got sick and we enjoyed it very much. We ate lunch every day at the beach restaurant (burgers, pizza, jerk wings and hot dogs) which was really good. The rooms are small and clean. It was a little musty, but you figure you are in a completely different country. We had air conditioning. The daily and nightly entertainment was really fun. The staff work so hard and it shows! We really enjoyed all of the entertainment. The weather was amazing! hot and breezy everyday. 86 degrees. We went to Dunn's river Falls which is a must!! a little advice, take the cruise instead of the shopping trip. It is more money but you get an awesome boat ride to the falls which includes snorkeling in the ocean, you climb the falls, then you party all the way back to the bus (dancing and drinking of course). The shopping trip I was told had VERY pushy vendors; besides, all the shops are the same, and you are somehwere tropical, shouldn't you be out on the ocean!!! We also went to hedonism 3 for a day pass of $75 each us. If you are into an adult party, then this is it. It was all they say it is!!! We spent the day at the nude beach and pool and had a blast!! They also had a wet t shirt competition in the afternoon which was really wild and was much more than I can say now. A night pass is $85 each. I would recommend going for a visit if you are staying at the decameron and are looking for a wild time outside oan amazing vacation. We loved jamaica and would return in a heartbeat. We definitely found the royal decameron worth the money we paid especially for a 3 and a half star resort. Go to jamaica you'll love it!!!

The Perfect Day

from A TripAdvisor Member
A fairytale wedding was provided by the fantastic staff of the Royal Decameron on 5th April 2003.The setting in the garden gazebo adjacent to the beach was really beautiful. Rev. Thomas performed a ceremony unlike any I have ever witnessed. It was magical, and bought a tear to the eye of everyone present. The resident band Embers added an authentic Jamaican feel to the proceedings with their calypso music. There were many others on the Decameron staff who all added their special touch to make our daughters wedding the Perfect Day!

Front Desk Staff need to be replaced at Royal Decameron

from A TripAdvisor Member
We went to Runaway Bay, Club Royal Decameron the first week of March. We had read mixed reviews. I had been there about eight years earlier. We reserved beach bungalows which is why we went there in the first place. They over booked as they had for the people with a negative review before we left. The resort is beautiful for location and the bungalows are unique. The food was really good and abundant. The only thing I really disliked was the attitude ofthe front desk staff and the run around they gave us for almost two days of our vacation, I went there to relax so that really was upsetting. They gave us bungalows off thebeach initially and only after being adamant and demanding did they change their tune. The other staff was great and honest. I think they should replace the whole front desk as they are ruining the business.

Honeymoon in Paradise

Club Decameron is about the closest you can get to the perfect place to go after the stress of a wedding. Friendly people, a beautiful setting, good food, (and plenty of it) all you can drink and one of the best resort beaches I have experienced. My new wife said it was exactly what she had hoped for.I talked to the General Manager about the negative comments I had read. He said that they are about 85% completed on their renovation that started in December of 2001. He was concerned about the comments on the front desk staff, and they are starting to send them to classes on how to present themselves to arriving guests.Royal Decameron is not a "party" resort, it is a quiet, beautiful place to enjoy a laid back relaxing vacation. I would recomend Royal Decameron to anyone that is thinking about going to Jamaica.Bob

Coconut Rum, Reagae, Turquoise Waters and beautiful people

from A TripAdvisor Member
My best friend and myself auctioned for a vacation off of a local radio station and won for a ridiculously cheap price. Instantly we were leery about the whole thing but proceeded to make reservations and book a flight. I kept thinking "What are we doing?"...that is until the bus pulled up to the hotel. It was perfect, beyond perfect. We weren't looking for a Disney resort, we were looking for Jamaica and found it here. Between the all inclusive (and they MEAN all inclusive from all the food you can eat, to all the drinks, to water sports and much more) to the beautiful water, the kind staff, the wonderful musicians, the clean rooms, etc., we had not one complaint. We spent five glorious days laying in the sun , sipping drinks and smiling. It was the most relaxing, stress-free vacation I've been on and I almost cried leaving. BUT! We've since booked three trips back, just for this year! I recommend this hotel to anyone.

s getting better!

Well, we've been to Club Caribbean twice now. The first time was in 2001 and the second time was in 2002. The first time we went, being that I had never been to an island before, I thought it was wonderful. Once you get past the awfulness of the island itself and get to the resort, it's alright. Anyway, like I mentioned, when I went the first time, I thought things went well. When we went the second time, it was because we got married there. In a years time, they did a lot of improvements. There looked like they had a lot more to do to some of the cottages but for the most part, where we were, our cottage was wonderful. We had a bit of an issue with the length of time that they were showing we were reserved for. After I had to prove to them that they had already charged me for half of my stay that they had no record of, they told me that there was no problems. So, to make a long story short, it all turned out well. I would love to go back again. I always get depressed when we first get on the island because it is such a poor country but once it's time to leave, I NEVER want to go!!

Top Local Tips for Runaway Bay

Runaway Bay We had terrible accommodation at Royal Decameron, but would recommend Runaway Bay definately. Get out and about. Were all made very welcome at Sharky's Bar which was a ten minute walk down the road. It was right on the beach and had large screen for footie enthusiasts, lobster and fish and food enthusiasts and loads of rasta locals who were very friendly! Mr. Sharky himself went out of his way to make us welcome (which is more than can be said for the management of Royal Decameron). Also shop in Brownstown, it is much cheaper and meet the locals! Good food at the restaurants and not so given over to tourists. Would definately return there, sun, sea, sand.
