Everything about this resort was excellent. Staff were friendly and couldn,t do any more than they did to make the stay an excellent one. Fun place to be, could not ask for any more entertainment. It was the best holiday we have been on and this is due to the resort and the friendly staff. We will definately be back again as soon as we can. We do not want to go to spain anymore now that we have sampled Jamaica and as this resort catered for our every need we will not need to go anywhere else. It is closely situated to lots of great places to visit which we did. Best of all when we went with our 'private taxi driver' Moodie who was great. We did go on a coach to excursions but since meeting Moodie we will never go on a coach again..

Best Place if you want to relax

from A TripAdvisor Member
This was a wonderful resort, quiet, peacefull, and beatifull. For those that said the beach was small it is, but plenty big for the size of resort it is. The staff was wonderfull, and will do anything for you. Food was great. The only complaint i had for the whole trip was the towel situation. You have to get there pretty early or they run out of beach towels. This is the only reason i took a star away from them.

Tipping is necessary at Club Ambiance if you want the staff to give you good service throughout your stay, other wise you may detect "attitude" from the staff. As others have written the snorkeling gear is not very sanitary, the paddle boat only had one seat back when we used it, and we could not get a beach towel until our second full day at the resort. While the resort does state it is an, "Adults Only" resort I was not prepared for topless sun bathing at ALL sun bathing locations. There were small ants just about every where in our room; bathroom sink, desk, and above the closet door in a constant stream. Don't expect a hot shower during your stay! I only had one shower the entire week that contained warm water. I tried showering in the morning and evening and still ended up with a cold shower. The lock box and iron will cost you $2 a day for each one, for every day you use theses items. The tour desk quotes you prices that are usually under actual costs when you get to where you are going. The tours desk will only take cash and travelers checks, no credit cards, and often wanted exact change. It was impossible to break a twenty dollar bill or a $1000 Jamaican dollar bill, it almost seemed to be a ploy to get you to tip more than you might if you could get change. We were also surprised by the additional cost of $15 per person if you were interested in a "special" surf and turf meal. On the plus side some of the wait staff and housekeepers were excellent and very pleasant to talk with. The pool was clean and the nightly entertainment was good.

inexpensive trip to Jamaica

from A TripAdvisor Member
We just returned after nearly a week at Club Ambiance. Overall, it was an enjoyable trip and would recommend it if you are looking for a decent trip at a lower price. After a cursory research packages to Jamaica on expedia.com, we chose Club Ambience which was the least expensive all-inclusive package available. The deal includes airfare, room, food, drink, and entertainment. Tipping was supposedly not mandatory and it did not seem to occur on a drink to drink, meal to meal basis. However, the staff serve you throughout your stay, and I suspect they hope for a generous tip at the end. Pluses: -Include the price and the all inclusive nature.-The weather of course was excellent.-Staff are friendly as indicated in other reviews.-Food and drink are abundant, by nature of the all-inclusive package.-Certain (but not all) activities such as kayaking, snorkeling, a cooking class were free and worthwhile.-A few local Jamaicans infiltrated the club confines and converse with us. They seemed harmless and we purchased two authentic hand wood carved items for a decent price. Acceptable:-The accomodations were decent, but nothing to write home about. Your room is bound to be seconds to pool, beach, dining area, bar. We were upgraded to a "honeymoon" room which overlooked the sea.-The cleanliness was for the most part acceptable but I did spot some ants in the dining area and one in the room. The snorkeling equiment was probably not cleaned at all and would recommend purchasing your own equipment if this bothers you. -The quality of the food was acceptable. The "jamaican night" was by far the best. The Italian and Oriental night were decent. The twice daily snacks only consisted of sandwiches made from an industrial sized "sandwich maker," similar to the ones sold on informercials. The first night I had a 3 sandwiches with smoken marlin and they were excellent. Otherwise, other nights featured only tuna salad, cheeze, ham, and a few other items. -The drinks were varied and included the local brew-Red Stripe, pina coladas, strawberry daiquiris, "Banshee"--a drink I had never heard of with banana liquor. The quality of the drinks was fair--for example only once when I ordered a pina colada, did they bother to put a fresh piece of pineapple. We were a little upset after ordering a bloody mary, it did not have a celery stick, pepper, or salt. Minuses:-The beach was rather miniscule.-The streets are extremely dangerous and I wouldn't recommend exploring the local community. We literally risked your lives to walk a few hundred yards to the loca grocery store to purchase some coffee and rum. -Other activities such as trips to the local beach, shopping areas, and other attractions costed extra and we did feel they would be worth the extra cost. Therefore, we were limited to the activities at the resort. if you are staying for less than a week, then you may be able to fill your time with the sun, food, drink and other activities.-With the all inclusive package, one feels obligated to take advantage everything that is offered and we did not once eat at a local restaurant. (note I also included the all-inclusive nature as a plus as well).

ve had anywhere

from A TripAdvisor Member
We've just returned from a wonderful 7 day vacation at Club Ambiance. I have to say-when we arrived at the hotel the appearance of the sign from the road scared us to death as we did this sight unseen from the internet. We soon learned that this was no reflection of Club Ambiance! The food was the best we've had anywhere we've traveled and that included Palace resorts in Cancun and Aruba. There was so much diversity that you couldn't get tired of the food. What really made this place stand out was the wonderful and friendly service of all the staff- Dean Roy in the dining room always had our drinks ready and a great table ready when we arrived for dinner or breakfast. Chris and Neal were always ready to make a good time happen!!Shawn from the kitchen kept us entertained just by his dancing. You can really tell these people enjoy what they're doing and it shows. I don't think we even knew the names of any other staff whereever we've traveled. The hotel is small but it is kept very clean and any problems you have are quickly fixed. There is a noisy bar across the street but by the time we turned in-we heard nothing!!! One thing I will say-if you go to Club Ambiance bring plenty of ones, tens, and twenties-it is almost impossible to get change for anything larger-but then again the dollar is not their currency. Tipping is not required at all but you will probably feel as we did-these people go above and beyond most of the time and I was actually happy to tip.

A little peice of heaven

from A TripAdvisor Member
All I can say is I was completely blown away by Club Ambiance. My friend and I went there for a mini get away and I cannot even described the feeling we had when leaving this resort. The staff in itself will ensure that I return to Club Ambiance, Shawn and Richard went out of their way and surpassed the meaning of doing their job, and made my vacation a memorable experience and one I will never forget. The food was amazing, the house band was incredible. We decided we would stay an extra day but the resort was full an once again the staff went out of there way to ensure we were satisfied (giving us our own private villa with our own private pool and beach) absolutlley breathtaking! I love you guys and and I will be back.

Spoilt By Attitude

An enjoyable time would have been much better if the disco was run for the guests and not to the preferences of the staff.
Found Mr nine feet of the entertainments team to be abusive and intimidating to the guests on numerous and frequent occasions.Dont need constant threatening behaviour on my holiday!

Again it Was The Best ... Dont Listen To The Others

from A TripAdvisor Member
I have now become an official member of the Club Ambiance family having returned from my 6th visit to the hotel and already booked to go back, you can take it from me it is the best.

The hotel is small & friendly and the only bad point I would say is that the beach could be bigger but when you are relaxing and enjoying yourself as much as I do you forget about that little point.

The staff are the best, the treat everyone like the are your best friend, always remember everyones name from the first day, the guys in the diningroom are great the make sure you have your glass of water when you need it, or coffee etc..., and the guys at the bar will prepare any drink you like just name it they will make it, try the purple rain it is yummy, ask Oneill to make it.

There is entertainment throughout the day, with Damian, Nine Feet and Shanna, they make sure you are having fun. In the evening the resident band play a mix of music, along with various acts.

Some of the rooms can be a little noisy, due to the bar across the road, but if like me you will normally be up as late as the bar, as for places to go outside the hotel, there is a couple fo bars near the hotel, but for a night out head into ocho rios, I am sure the hotel would organise a taxi in and back for you.

Dont listen to all those bad reviews if like me you want a taste of nice small relaxed jamaican hotel then Ambiance is the place for you, if you want huge, americanised hotels where no-one gets to know anyone then dont go, I have made friends from all over the world now and wouldnt dream of going anywhere else, you will see what I mean when you get there.

AS for ants and cochroches, yes there may be some, never in the 6 times have I seen any, just watch out for the mozzies they do bite.

Top Local Tips for Runaway Bay

Ocho Rios The further away from the boat docks you are, the more you can save

Dunns River Falls Tour Take the Dunns River Falls Tour which includes shopping stops in Ocho Rios.

Shopping Don't underestimate the reports of agressive merchandise hawkers! I like to haggle, and the people in Jamaica were too much for me. Every tourist stand has the exact same stuff and most of it is cr!p you could find at home for just as cheap. All the stuff that they sell at the ocho rios shopping excursion, they sell at the Dunn River Falls, so if you are thinking about trips, have it be the falls. Don't bring very little kids to the falls.
