t wait to go back!

from tbrackin
This was our first trip to Jamaica so we weren't sure what to expect. It started the way it ended - absolutely perfect! The driver (Andrew) from Jamaica Inn was there waiting for us when we got off our flight. The drive to Ocho Rios is less than pleasant but a necessary evil. We got to the Jamaica Inn and were immediately greeted by Lloyd who treated us like family. We were offered and accepted a delicious rum drink as we checked in. The room was great - very comfy with a great couch on the porch for reading and relaxing. Little touches like fresh flowers each day and fresh ice water and ice in the room each day. The staff is wonderful (Teddy, Patrice, Richard, and Lloyd, to name a few). Kai, the chef is fabulous, as is his food. We have two small children and were looking to get away to somewhere relaxing without a whole lot going on and this was definitely the place. We did a lot of sleeping, eating, and reading. That's not to say that we did nothing - we went to Dunn's River Falls, the Laughing Waters, and snorkeling by boat arranged by the Jamaica Inn, which was just about enough before I was ready for the comfort of my beach chair back under the thatched cabana with a cold rum drink in my hand. If you're looking for a relaxing, comfortable place without gold chains and hair spray - this is your place. Ya Man

Welcome Home!

from Tamira58
When my husband arrived, the first words from the front desk personnel were "welcome home". I have traveled extensively for many years and the Jamaica Inn far exceeded my expectations. The patio off our room was the most relaxing and comfortable environment. My husband and I can't wait to return. Having only been to Jamaica as a port stop we did not have the best impression of this island, but after staying at the Jamaica Inn for a week, we came away with a much different appreciation for this wonderful destination.

Just as written!!!!!!!

I did a lot of reading of the reviews of the Jamaica Inn and was excited to see what was true. This hotel was as good as advertised. I just returned from 5 days there and I didn't want to leave. Lets talk about the good first....the hotel grounds and beach area are beautiful...very secluded and peaceful. The staff treats you like royalty even though your not. Getting breakfast served in your room is a must. We stayed in a balcony room, room #60. This was a great room because it was on the end, with an excellent view. This was everything we expected and more. We truly didn't want to leave the hotel...we did not do anything we planned to do, but maybe next time. We suggest getting the private car ride from the airport...this is a longer drive than I thought with a lot of rode construction...also they are pretty aggressive drivers, so it was well worth the $200. Our only drawback was the nightlife at the hotel. We are in our early 30's and we would have liked more nightlife. There was none to speak of...the bars closed at 11 and the nightly bands at dinner were really bad. Also be prepared to pay a lot for food and drinks. It is a 5 star restuarant, so be prepared to pay 5 star prices. Drinks averaged $6 per and breakfast was $15-$25 and lunch was about $20. We did eat out once at the Ruins for dinner....great atmosphere and lobster. I recommend this hotel to anyone who goes...we will definetly go back!

Leave the prozac at home

To give you a sense of what this place is like, we saw guests crying when they had to leave. It is simply the most spectacular place on earth, due to its combination of physical beauty as well as its people beauty. The staff has a way of making you feel like you’ve never felt before. You are so content that you will inevitably pass on the opportunity to visit the island’s most beautiful attractions. You simply cannot imagine being anywhere other than on your veranda, on the gorgeous beach, in the secluded cove, on the croquet court getting a lesson from Rupert, or sitting at the bar listening to Teddy sing – yahman.

Most Relaxing Vacation Ever!

When we first entered our room we thought: kind of small and what's with the tacky wooden window shutters. After the initial "shock" wore off, we had the best and most relaxing week of our lives. The hotel and property are immaculately kept. The dining area under the stars in with a live band playing was first rate. We had the dumb idea of dining elsewhere for 2 nights: big mistake. Food and service were 5-star with menu changing nightly. Relaxing in the comfortable lounge chairs under a palm umbrella with a Red Stripe was a great way to spend an afternoon. The staff was most gracious. In short, we would return in a heartbeat.

Very, Very Good

My wife and I just returned and had a wonderful time. The entire experience was a pleasure, from check-in to check-out. The grounds and beach are gorgeous. The room was great, with a veranda overlooking the beach. The service was outstanding, attentive without being intrusive. The atmosphere was relaxed without being sloppy. The guests were friendly but respectful of your privacy.

The meals served at the hotel were good, and the presentation was first class, but I found some of the main courses at dinner overcooked. The dinner music catered to an older crowd. Both were minor inconveniences.

If you are looking for action, this is not the place to go. If you are looking to relax and enjoy great service and stunning surroundings, the Jamaica Inn is the ideal Caribbean hotel.

Unsurpassed Service!

I just returned from a 5-night stay at the fabulous Jamaica Inn. This trip was planned to celebrate my 50th birthday, along with a 20 year long-distance friendship...It exceeded all expectations - but most of all - I cannot say enough about the impeccable service! My travel philosophy has been not to repeat locations - to see a new destination each trip. But this is one spot I can envision returning to over and over again - and I met many couples who have done just that! My advise is to get on a plane and go - I guarantee you won't regret it.

Elegant relaxing retreat

Just got back from 5 days at the Jamaica Inn. Can't say enough about the place. Beautiful rooms, great food, incredible service. Very romantic, especially at night. Very pretty beach. If you're looking for a laid back vacation, this is the place.

Jamaica Inn Heaven

My stay at the Jamaica Inn was relaxing, luxurious and more than I ever expected. The rooms are beautifully decorated and arranged. Not overly adorned. The property itself is very private. The view is addictive. You must have breakfast served in the comfort of your room, on the veranda. Speaking of consumption, the menu is quite expansive, delicious & creative. But what really made my stay at the Jamaica Inn memorable was the staff. They were warm, yet professional. Are rare combination. Don't overlook a croquet lesson from Mr. Rupert.
On past vacations, I always left the hotel for an excursion into town, the countryside or deep into the ocean. This time I did not. I never felt a desire to leave. Everything I wanted was at the Inn. Of course, if I wanted, I could have climbed the falls or whatever. But I felt so peaceful at the Inn. Why would I want to leave that?

Top Local Tips for Ocho Rios

private car take a private car supplied by hotel It is a long trip from airport

Currency Dont bother with Jamaican Dollars - American Dollars accepted everywhere. Dont rely on ATM machines in Ochos Rios to get US dollars - the cruise ships have always cleared them out and we never - in four attempts, on 4 machines got US dollars out - although we were charged each time for trying.

Evitas Great place to eat offering Italian food with a Jamaican twist!
