Historical Traveller Reviews of Mariners Inn Hotel
A Business is only a good as the people who work for it
NEGRIL ESCAPE was a wonderful surprise due in part to the strategic location of the property directly overlooking the cliffs, coupled with the warm and heartfelt staff providing daily services. For example, when my husband and I expressed that we loved mangos, an employee's son was kind enough to present us with a few freshly picked fruits from his garden the very next day. How lovely! The ladies running the front office were extremely attentive as well. This resort is physically spread out and exudes a very peaceful and lush environment, and does not project a high density concentration of people in comparison to other nearby properties such as Rockhouse which seems to have too many people per square foot .
The wholesome fresh fruits and good cooking has been a positive influence on my husband's eating habits --- mangoes have made there way into our refrigator at home on a regular basis!
We will return again soon, except this time we'll bring the children. Until then, I miss all the lovely people who were kind enough to share a little glimpse of their lives with us.

The Perfect Escape from it all
WOW!!! We stayed just 3 nights at the Escape; wish it could have been 3 weeks! Everything about the resort far exceeded our expectations, from check-in to check-out.
Upon arriving, our check-in was completed in about 5 minutes. Then a quick tour of the grounds, a welcome drink (with or without alcohol) and off to the honeymoon suite. We stayed in Romancing the Kasba...the entryway had beaded curtains, the room was decorated in jeweled tones, the bed was a VERY comfortable low platform King size bed, and the bathroom nice sized. Outside, we had an unobstructed view of the ocean. We could sit just outside our room to enjoy it, or wander closer to explore the blow holes, the bar, the "creatures" playing on the cliffs (i.e. huge crabs!), or just relax in the sunshine. The grounds were meticulously maintained and had a beautiful variety of foilage. The food (and drinks) were terrific. On top of all this, the staff were the friendliest and most helpful that we met in Jamaica. They all will do whatever it takes to make sure your every wish is granted. The staff quickly learned our names and always had a friendly smile. Allen (security) will take you to the sister property on 7 mile beach and bring you back when you're ready; he is also willing to take you other places, just ask.
After just an afternoon on 7 mile beach, we were so thankful that we were staying on the Cliffs, at the Escape, where the peacefulness and serentiy beckon us to return again and again...and we can't wait!

I just spent about a week at Negril Escape in the West End or Cliffs of Negril. The resort is beautiful - the view from the rooms of the ocean is great, the pool is very nice, and the food is excellent. They have a great tower out on the cliffs where I practiced daily yoga -- very nice :)
I should also mention that the hotel provided me and my family with free transportation to the beach side of Negril. Negril Escape has a sister property called Mariner's on the beach. Allen, the hotel's driver is a nice guy who took us and picked us up from the beach. The hotel is quiet and clean, and a short walk to numerous restaurants and bars - i.e. 15 minute walk to Rick's Cafe and cliff jumping. We received complimentary drinks upon arrival, and found everyone very helpful and friendly.
Another huge perk at Negril Escape is the dive shop - Negril Divers. Ask for Ken - the dive instructors are experienced, nice, and very professional. I highly recommend diving with them!
Exceeded My Expectations

It's been over 24 hours that my mother and I returned from Negrils Escape Resort and Spa. I still can't believe the wonderful time I had.
This has been the most relaxing vacation I have ever had. The beautiful lush gardens, the awesome view of the sea from the cliffs will remain in my memory forever.
I was totally impressed by the staff. Everyone from housekeeping to the man in charge of security ( I should remember his name) they all were professional and caring and made sure that my mother and I were alright.
The food was always delicious and plentiful and the room was cozy and clean. If you want a real vacation without interruptions this is the place.
Oh, did I mention the Spa treatment by the sea, it was unbelievable thanks Courtney.

We booked a hotel on the beach & stayed one night. The next day we visited the Negril Escape, located off the cliffs & immediately changed our reservation from the beach to the cliffs. It was quieter, away from the noice & still within a good distance from the beach. The ocean view from the room, was just that, we opened our doors every morning to the water the sail boats as they passed. The people from the front desk, to the security, to the bar tenders & maids were the most friendly I experienced while in Jamaica. The bathrooms & rooms were very clean, the atmosphere was calm & inviting, the open bar & pool were perfect. I felt safe in this place, unlike on the beach. When I return I will stay at this place everytime. They have a bus for free to drive you to the beach hotels everyday, we visited twice on a 9 day vacation. It was a diamond hidden in the ruff.

I would recommend this hotel to everyone. We only spend one night but the hotel and service was fabulous. The rooms with view of the ocean is awesome. You can't pay for such peace and tranquility and still be so close to all the exictment of Negril. If you are brave enough try jumping from the lighthouse - what a thrill!
s the best Escape
We just returned from a week at the Negril Escape and the name says it all, ESCAPE. My wife and I both work in high stressed jobs and only a few minutes after arriving we began to ESCAPE. The view of the ocean is unsurpassed. We have been to many resorts including "all inclusives" in Negril over the years (beach & cliffs) and this was by far the best. We got to finally experience the real Jamaica starting with the ride from Montego Bay to Negril by way of "Pink Floyd". This is a Rasta guy that makes the experience the ultimate. He sang us several original songs that he has written and gave us a great history lesson also. He stopped along the way whenever we wanted for Red Stripe Beer (they also make Red Stripe Light), water & bathroom breaks. His motto is, ANYTHING YOU WANT, ANYTHING. The resort check in staff are great and you feel like you are family. I met several but Suzette, Joy and Teresa stand out. After getting our complimentary drink (alcholic or non-alcholic) we went to our room and were blown away with the beauty of this resort and the courtesy of the staff. And the views, "Nothing in the world compares to this that I have seen". If you want to go on tours to experience the real Jamaica you can set all of these up with Teodane Wallace ---. He is the tour agent for the property. He really knows what is happening and can recommend trips to meet your needs and expectations. If you want to experience the area I do not recommend the, "all inclusives". We did have a buffet breakfast every morning on the property in our plan and it was fantastic. Thanks to Sophia and others for making it special. We ate dinner there almost every night because the view was so spectacular and the food was very good but also experienced several great, inexpensive places to eat along the cliffs at at the beach. I do not recommend this property for everyone but do recommend it if you want to completely cool out, eat great food, enjoy the best sunsets in the world nightly, want to scuba dive and snorkel (dive shop on site)and pick up a great tan. This is a awesome place to renew your vows or have a wedding. They can put it all together for you. For us this was the PERFECT ESCAPE. Thank you Rebah for putting it all together. We will reserve for next year and bring friends to experience the joy, pleasure and beauty of THE NEGRIL ESCAPE.
We had done alot of research on the Negril area and had wondered if we had made the right choice to stay on the cliffs. In a word...Amazing..at every turn we were charmed by the views, the resort and last but not least, the staff. Oceanview does mean exactly that..from every room on the resort!! The rooms are kept very clean and we loved our "back to africa' suite. Very relaxed and private. It was the best vacation we have ever had. My only regret is that we didn't book a longer stay. The grounds are so clean and the gardens are beautiful. The food at our resort was very good, especially the red snapper dinner we had on the cliffs our last nite(thanks again Chris!) and Chippy's french fries are the best! Great breakfast buffet in the morning and Sharette,Viviene and Sophia kept our coffee cups filled and welcomed us each morning with the brightest smiles. From the moment we checked in with Theresa we felt as if we had been welcomed "home" by family. That is what makes this such a special place. Alrick is truly an awesome guy. From the first rum punch and red stripe to the next flaming bob marley, we so looked forward to seeing him every day. He was an invaluable source for info on the area and we have come home with some great drink recipies and a life long friend. Where do I start with Allen (aka Biggs)....this great man used his precious day off to tour us around to the Black River and then to YS falls and Bamboo alley. Biggs and I were both surprised when my boyfriend proposed marriage at the falls! We will never forget that magical day and we are staying in touch with "the best man" Biggs. We also enjoyed a couple nights out with Pink Floyd to see some reggae legends. Floyd will also take you to the airport in Mo'bay and if you call ahead he will be there to pick you up!! Highly recommended,as Floyd is a prince!!And how many times in your life are you going to be able to say that Pink Floyd picked you up at the airport? The Wallace family now has a very special place in our hearts and memories and we are so looking forward to our next stay. Our love and hellos to Richard,Lee and Kendrick(come for a visit any time!!),S and S
Great place to stay

We recently returned from a one-week stay at the Negril Escape Resort and Spa. There were 6 of us with 3 rooms. First of all, the staff is top notch. They were most accommodating and friendly. The rooms were newly decorated with different themes from around the world. Some rooms even have a hammock outside for you to relax in! The rooms are clean and have ample space for your belongings. The door is a double door so you can open them up and you have the most beautiful view of the ocean. They even brought a table and chairs up on our balcony so we could sit outside in the mornings and drink coffee and watch the ocean, one of our favorite things to do while on vacation. We spotted dolphins almost every morning we were there! This resort is located on the cliffs, which is actually an old coral reef. It is very interesting to look at the different fossils embedded into the black coral. The grounds are covered in a variety of beautiful flowers and flowering bushes, including different colored hyacinth and bougainvilleas. We spent a lot of time around the pool; lounging and drinking Pink Hummingbird blender drinks! Yum! Breakfast was included in our stay and the food was delicious. I recommend the bacon wrapped bananas and the ackee (I prefer it without the salt fish) I will tell you that the people at this resort make you want to go back. I felt like they were a part of my family! The owners were on the premises more than once during our stay, Carey and Charlotte Wallace, and both are more than gracious hosts. There is a PADI scuba center on site and you can dive from the cliffs or the beach. They also have a free shuttle to the beach every day. You can also snorkel right from the resort. My sister and I enjoyed a massage on the premises and they were in the process of constructing a small building right near the ocean to be used as a massage center. This is our 5th stay with this resort and we continue to want to go back! If you want a great, safe experience with some of the nicest people on this earth, I recommend this place…you won’t be disappointed.

Negril Escape Resort & Spa was the most wonderful experience of my life. The resort was magnificent, the staff absolutely wonderful, and the food was beyond my wildest imagination. I've already planned my next trip back.
Top Local Tips for Negril
Check out The Jungle on ladies night - to dance or even just to watch - so much fun! Check out the local bars. There's someplace to dance &/or listen to live music every night. Things don't pick up until 10pm or so and they go on until morning. Don't worry about what to wear. It's come as you are, totally laid back. So take a nap under your palapa and go have some fun!
Get out of your comfort zone
Get out and meet some people. Eat at some out of the way joint on the main road, where the person who takes your order also cooks your food! Don't be judgmental and learn to be patient. Take that back to the US.
Take a boat ride!
The glass bottom boat ride is so much more than a boat ride. We arranged a ride from the Dive Shop at Negril Escape. We went for a four hour trip which included a ride down the cliffs to explore the caves then to the reef for snorkling ending with a couple hours on little Booby Cay. A sandy beach with a vendor grilling fresh caught fish for us!! It was the best. My husband and I requested a boat just for us and paid 75.00! The captain was quite personable and made our trip so fun!!
