Just returned from Grand Lido

from mek918
We just returned from Grand Lido Negril. I was a little bit underwhelmed. We first stayed at Beaches for three nights, and I was quite surprised that I liked that property a lot better. The rooms are being renovated but right now, there are all kinds of problems. One couple we met had to change rooms 4 times! No air, broken lock on door, no hot water. We changed rooms once bc they put us in the clothing optional section - literally 10 ft. away from the clothing optional bar! So we couldn't open our blinds without full view of that pool and bar, and people being able to see straight into our room. Frustrating to say the least, bc I like to sit outside and enjoy the sunset, in peace and quiet. They were able to move us, but not til the next day. First room was renovated - jacuzzi tub and mini bar. But second room - on the beach, was actually nicer. But for some reason we didn't have the premium cable in the second room, only the first. Wouldn't have mattered except it rained for several hours every afternoon, so we spent a lot of time inside! Rooms don't get very cool bc they have blinds with slats, and no glass behind them - so all the cool air seaps out. But, aside from that, the rooms were nice. But I can't understand how this resort is supposed to be the best in the Caribbean (according to magazine). The beach is very nice but not as wide as the beach near Beaches/Swept Away. And there were no tiki huts or umbrellas so it's hard to find shade. They do have tons of rafts and the water is especially calm in the bay, so I spent a lot of time floating out in the water. Food was fantastic, for the most part. We actually liked Piacere the least - thought it was really cheesy! But you can order the same food from room service (we got filets and champagne from room service, but it took at least an hour and a half). Cafe Lido was great. Pool was disappointing. Even smaller than what I thought it would be. And no shower near the pool, so you can't help but track in sand. So it was always cloudy. However view froLOVED that. And the property itself, particularly along the beach, was beautiful. Not a fan of all the activities (seemed like a cruise) and found it to be a little loud. But all the resorts seemed that way. If you want to go to sleep early, take earplugs. All in all, it's a nice place but I've seen nicer for sure. I think if I went back, I'd stay at Swept Away, or go to Beaches if I had a family.

Not Worth The $$$

Amenities were not the best. There was never any HOT water for bathing in our room and the electricity went out in our room at least twice a day. The ocean was full of seaweed and it was on my body when I got out of the water. I found it disgusting and dirty. I expected better a better beach. Service is AWFUL. There is no tipping and we found that because of this, whether they bring something to you in five minutes or two hours, they are getting paid the same. There is no incentive to "hussle". Rooms were old and need to be updated. I would definitely NOT recommend this club to friends.

Grand Lido Negril....a flat out champ!

Grand Lido Negril is flat out the singular best vacation resort I have ever been to. Service and food were both terrific and the place itself is really beautiful. The place is not a place for singles but for couples and thankfully we saw no young kids there at all. If you want to surprise the special person in your life take them to this place. You won't regret it! Most refreshingly having been to Jamaica 4 times in my life, I can honestly say the Jamaican native employees at the resort truly were friendly and accomodating to all our needs.

best vacation ever!

We spent our honeymoon here and couldn't have picked a better place! Everything was beyond our expectations! The food was fabulous, the staff accomodating and curteous, and the atmosphere majestic. The grounds were well kept and the rooms were quite impressive. We had a minor problem with our bathroom when we arrived, one of the pipes was leaking, but maintanence was there within a halfhour and fixed it. We never had another problem as long as we were there. We would definitely recommend tis resort to everyone! We, too will definitely go back!!!!

We had a great time, BUT....

the service was poor, and the food (buffet) was not that great. We really liked the Timber House, the burgers, lamb chops, and salads were excellent. So were the drinks. Room service was great too, but sometimes took 2 hours for our food to show up. Some of the other guests said the workers were fueding with management over wages...maybe that was the reason the staff had such bad attitudes. I witnessed workers being downright nasty to other guests, and fellow vacationers felt the same way. The room was nice, we did experience some of the plumbing problems others spoke about. We loved the beach and overall had a great time, but I wouldn't go back. I heard from other guests that Grand Lido Sans Souci is a million times better, food and service wise. But overall, having been our 3rd time in Jamaica, second time at a SuperClub, we are ready for a change. Sandals was much, much better.

Absolute best vacation

Just returned from a week at Grand Lido Negril and I am already planning on a return trip next year. The rooms are "Carribbean-luxurious" - you can't compare it to The Pierre in New York or Four Seasons because it is beach front and in Jamaica. It's casually elegant and understated. Hands-down the best aspect of the vacation were the warm and friendly staff who made your feel comfortable, relaxed and pampered. Food was excellent. Buffet breakfast with fruit, pastries, eggs, and omelette station. Lunch buffet with Sandwich station, rotisserie, fruit, salads, and other hot entrees. Dinner you select from Cafe Lido (continental cuisine), La Pasta, Scotch Bonnett (Jamaican cuisine), and formal french restaurant. Something for everyone. Friday nights, a General Manager's Gala is held where you'll be introduced to hotel staff. The Beach party is held on Mondays. You'll enjoy it here if you embrace the Jamaican laid-back,relaxed attitude. Here "Customer IS King!".

Just returned and not too sure if we would go back. The service was either good or bad. Some employees go above and beyond their call of duties. Other don't seem to care if they are there or not. Wait service especially. The resort is older and it shows. Mostly in the rooms. SMALL pool. If you are pool people you will be very disappointed. Beach is nice but not on the 7 miles stretch that Negril is known for. This resort is located in Bloody Bay. Food was good but dinner doesn't start to be served until 6:30pm. For some that is too late. Clothing optional beach is very small and crowded. Also a VERY small pool area. NO swim up pool bars at this resort at all. Lots of water sports offered which is very nice. The ship ZIEN offers sunset cruises. Reservations are required and are handled once you arrive at the resort. If you book with select tour companies you will be pre-registered upon arrival. Same with the complimentary pedicure and manicures.

Wonderful, Wonderful

My husband and I went to Grand Lido Negril for our 5th wedding anniversary. It was fabulous. The food was great. The service was excellent. I have not found that level of service any where else. I recommend Grand Lido Negril to everyone. Let me say this, I have a husband, who by the third day is ready to go home. He was ready to stay another week. He was so relaxed. The staff makes you feel like you were a part of their family. I recommended Grand Lido to friends. They are leaving in a week. Excellent, Excellent.

They need to clean up their act

This is my second attempt to forwarn people. What I felt was going to be the honeymoon of a lifetime turned out to be soooo disappointing. The ammenities were there, but we were so shortchanged. No yacht...even though the website said it would be there during the time I was there. Plumbing problems galore...(I like water, and preferably hot water in my shower...and flushing the toilet is something that I have to admit, I take for granted. If you tell me that you carry certain cable stations, and even print them in your room book, you had better have them, especially during playoff time & on my new husband' birthday. And even after I try to get these things corrected,...numerous times, why would you not answer my phone calls, e mails, even when I take the time to speak with your assistant? I give up. I now have a voucher for a 3 night stay...and that is supposed to please me? I am sorry, but I was on my honeymoon. I expected the best. I was told they were the best. I was / still am aggravated. I will use my voucher for another Grand Lido, where hopefully the management there takes more pride in his resort......If you have already planned & paid to go to this resort, insist on not being placed in the block of rooms that has the plumbing problems,... toward the end of the resort near "Couples". And do not tolerate poor ammenities. Speak to the concierge...the one that deals with the "upper crust tourists" as otherwise your dissappointment will fall on deaf ears. What a beatiful resort, what poor management.

We will return again and again

we will be returning for the fifth time soon. we are always welcomed home when we arrive. we have stayed in the presidental suite twice and the luxury suite on the beach twice we have been more than pleased each time. the staff is seconed to none always smiling and ever so glad to help. we found the food excellent the beach great for long walks and sunning. tons of things to do in the water para sailing , horse back riding and just relaxing. you can party your brains out or just relax. we went into town and no one was after us to buy anything. we have loved it so much that we took our son and his wife and our middle son they all loved it. we also flew from the airport to negril i liked the road trip better you appreciate where you come from. the countryside is lovely but the houses the local people live in well some are sad. in closing if you want paradise this is it.

Top Local Tips for Negril

Don't go all the way to town to shop. Don't go all the way into Negril just for souvenirs. Everything you need is sold at the market right across the street or down Bloody Bay Beach between the two RIU resorts. Just do a little walking.

Shop right across the street Don't bother going all the way into town. Buy your souvenirs right across the street at the flea market.

Vendors There is a vendors market just outside the resort, about 5 min walk. The vendors are a little pushy and try and make you to come in their little stores and it's dark and hot. But if you wait until Monday at the buffet on the beach all the vendors come setup on the beach. You can see better and they aren't as pushy on the resort.
