Top Local Tips for Negril
Selena's Coffehouse When in Negril, definitely make it a point to eat breakfast at Selena's Coffeehouse. Selena's offers a great, casual outdoor-patio setting, surrounded by foliage, and with a few resident kitties who will actually let you hold them! Owned by a female British expatriate and her Jamaican husband, the cafe has the best hand-roasted coffee in town, amazing callalo (spinach) and cheese omelets, hand-squeezed orange juice, awesome banana pancakes, and to-die-for chunky hash-brown potatoes with her own special seasonings! The prices are great - and the breakfast platters so overflowing that they will easily feed TWO! After our first morning there, we wouldn't eat breakfast anywhere else - and our only regret was not trying her equally wonderful lunches until our last day in town!
Ricks Ok so you just have to go to Ricks to see the cliff divers. Be ready, its a tourist mecca. The huge spaces in the parking lot for tour buses should give it away. Also, the divers (the ones who jump from the very top) do it for tips and make sure to collect a bit before they take off. This can take a while, all the while your ordering drinks or getting hussled for money. Sure, stop in and take your chances on a few 'high dives' then go ahead and tip a diver, its their income, but don't bother with food or drink at Ricks. Take a 2 minute walk farther west up the road. You'll go around 1 bend, literally about 100 yards, and you'll find the LTU Pub. No crowds, cool drinks, reasonably priced food if your hungry or just sit, sip and enjoy the view. And yes, you even can swim if you dare off the platform between the cliffs at LTU.
