Just What We Were Looking For

My wife and I were looking to escape New York State's winter for a few days and to find a quiet, romantic place to stay in Negril. Country Country proved to be the perfect accommodations. I cannot say enough good things about the "cottage" we had, the service we received, and how beautiful the grounds are kept.

We stayed in cottage 501, which is the one farthest from the beach (still only about 50 yards) and it was great. It was tucked away from the other dwellings and offered us a great deal of privacy in a tropical garden setting. The room itself was beautiful and provided us plenty of space. And we loved sitting outside on the wrap-around porch and listening to the birds and other creatures and taking in the tropical scenery.

We were treated extremely well and would like to thank everyone, especially Lee, Stacy, Taddy, and the entire staff for making us feel so welcomed (and valued).

The food at Country Country was quite good -- we had breakfast there every day and dinner one of the five nights we stayed. The only reason we didn't have more dinner meals there is that we wanted to try some of the different places we had read about. This included Kuyaba, which drew no complaints from us, and Norma's, which is only a two minute walk from Country Country. We actually enjoyed Norma's so much that we ate there twice. And, it is worth noting, that Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville is about a one-minute walk down the beach. As a "Parrothead" for 30 years I was in heaven having it so close. We found the food there to be quite good and the prices reasonable.

Some of the reviews I read before going had me concerned that the beach would be too small. Instead, we found it was of ample size to accommodate everyone. And, yes, a number of vendors work the beach trying to sell you everything from juice to cigarettes to drugs. But as others have said, a simple "no thank you" generally does the trick in sending them on their way. Besides, we found the vendors added to the cultural experience of our trip.

Again, our goal was to find a quiet place to relax for a few days and enjoy sun, sand, food, and Rum. My wife and I agree that we couldn't have found a more perfect place. We are already talking about going back to Country Country again next year.

Country Country

from G-mony
The hotel: Highly Recomended

Based on reviews from this site, i booked a premium room at Country Country Negril, and it was a great decision. The hotel's management and staff is excellent, their chef is wonderful, and the property is amazing. The setting is not typical of a five star hotel only because you get a cottage all to yourself in a beautiful landscape to make you feel you're in the middle of the country side with a beach right at your door step. The only problem were the mosquitos, which i took care of on the next night with a big can of insect killer.

The Setting, beach vs cliffs:

The beach is very clean and the water is pristine. The only "problem" was that i got annoyed by all the hustlers the first two days, but then i realized if i just shake my head and say " all cool mun, i got it all" then they back off. The persistent ones cost me 100 Jamaican Dollars to get rid of, approximately USD $1.8

After visiting the cliffs, i fell in love with them. Check out The Rockhouse hotel. It is lovely there.

The locals:

Jamaicans are very friendly people. They depend heavily on tourists in Negril. Locals pay 100 Jamaican dollars for cab rides, and the tourists are charged 300 jamacian dollars. Yet, our income is probably 10x more, so it's still a bargain. I even give the nice ones a tip.

If you need anything, make sure you ask the staff at your hotel. The bartender, the housekeeper, the bell boy..... these are the ones that will really take care of you.

Make sure you tour other sites outside of negril, such as the water falls, the country side, the rum factory, etc....

I'm defintily gonig back, and next time it will be for 2 weeks.

I have just got back to the UK having spend 5 wonderful days at country ( we also stayed at the Rockhouse for the last three also wonderful) The place is small, clean and the staff our great. Breakfast has got to be the best meal of the day. We had a one story cabin set back but with views of the sea. I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for somewhere with a relaxed and laid back atmosphere. The beach is great, we also tried Normas and Sweet spice which were good. Margaritaville, TGI Fridays kind of place, not my cup of tea but great for an off the beach evening drink.. Also Georges next door makes a great pina colada and there is a lady that comes down to the beach a couple of times a week and if you need a good massage look for her. We ate at Kuyaba and after all the good reviews were disapointed with the food and service.Country Country has got to be the best on the beach.

Wonderful Rustic Hotel

from TravelBuggy2
My boyfriend and I went for a three day trip to Negril and Country Country was recommended to us by a local. The place was very homey and personal, as opposed to the other big hotels nearby. It feels very nice to be there with just a bunch of other guests and not a big bunch of tourists. There is no pool, but then again who needs a pool when there is the magnificent sea at your doorstep. The beach is very small but very accommodating. The food was so not authentic Jamaican which was a huge disappointment as I favour gastronomical pleasures, but you can eat at nearby Norma's or take a taxi to Sweet Spice for some great Jamaican food. Loved this place. Highly recommend it for a restful vacation.

Country Country is adorable - we loved it

from A TripAdvisor Member
I went down to Jamaica with two friends and we stayed at Country Country for 4 nights. We had a terrific stay and loved it there. The staff is very nice and was quite helpful and the rooms are really cute. The beach is small but we didn't have any trouble getting chairs (perhaps it was also the end of the season) and the restaurant right on the beach was great. We got the package that included breakfast and ate there every morning looking right out over the water. Breakfast was really good - pancakes, omelettes, and traditional Jamaican breakfast were all tasty. We only had a couple problems. When we got there they put us in the downstairs level of a 2 level cottage. Because we'd paid for the Premium suite (better of the two) we asked to be moved. The website and all the info we'd gotten said that if you ask for Premium, you'll either stay in a stand-alone cottage or on the 2nd floor. They moved us and it was no problem. However, I'd recommend when you make your reservations if you pay for premium tell them you want either a stand-alone cottage or a 2nd floor. The second problem was that we had no hot water for two days. It wasn't that big a deal, though, because it was so hot that we didn't mind cool showers. But if you were staying longer it could be an issue.
Overall, Country Country was excellent and I'd definitely stay there again.

Charming place

We discovered Country Country through Tripadvisor, and it was a delightful place to stay in Negril. The reviews on this site gave us a good idea of what to expect. We had the upstairs of a two-story cabin. It was beautifully decorated and scrupulously clean. The air-conditioning was state of the art. The king-sized 4-poster bed was nice and firm. Outside the room was a veranda with chairs, and it was nice to see sit out and enjoy the ocean breezes. Since Negril is on the west coast of Jamaica, the sunsets are spectacular. The hotel staff left a tub of fresh water, changed daily, to wash the sand off of our feet.

We found the staff at Country Country friendly, helpful, and honest (the latter quality is not exactly universal in Jamaica). They helped us locate a skillful and loquacious driver, Roy Ruddock, who carried us about the island for a full day at a very reasonable rate. Besides seeing the Black River and YS Falls, Roy gave us a good look at the "real" Jamaica away from the tourist areas. We even stopped to buy coconuts, and the woman selling the coconuts whopped off the tops with a machete so we could drink the coconut "water." He answered all of our questions; it was quite an educational experience.

Just a few doors down from Country Country is Norma's, one of the best restaurants on the island and not terribly pricy. Country Country's own restaurant is good, but the fare is limited. Though Country Country only has a small stretch of beach (they are in the process of expansion), it is nice for sunning and swimming. When the surf is low, you can see a natural aquarium of tropical fish in the water. The hotel security guard offered valuable protection from beggars, ganja sellers, and other potentially dangerous persons. We had no trouble making limited excursions along the beach at night.

In short, Country Country is a charming hotel in the center of Negril's Seven-Mile Beach. It will be our home on our next trip to Negril.

Best hotel in the locality

This is a fantastic hotel if you do not want to be catered for in a 5 star luxury hotel, of which there are quite a number in the northern vicinity of the seven mile beach. Ditto if you have kids and want them to be looked after all day, I would recommend going to one of the more upmarket places. That said, however, if you do have kids and love them like you should & want to be with them in the day then Country Country should suit.

We (myself and girlfriend both under 30) stayed in a standard room and bar the mosquitoes at night (buy plenty of mozzie repellent) found the accomodation very sweet, colourful and tidy with an enormous bed & satellite TV.

The breakfasts were good, the beach area belonging to the hotel is quite small but there's seven miles of beach to explore so this should not be an issue.

Staff are generally cool.

Enjoy Italian food with fresh, local seafood? Go to Gino's which is about 10 mins walk south. Norma's, round the corner is good, too. The absolutely must visit restaurant is the Rock House which should cost around $6-8 in a taxi to get back from with free pick up. Comparable prices but with food & service of a much higher standard to local eateries. Rock House has stunning scenery, is perched on top of a cliff with visible submerged caves, makes a great change to the beach restaurants.

Great little place

We took a gamble and chose this hotel sight unseen. We found Country Country on the internet and relied on Tripadvisor comments. We were delighted with our cottage accomodations and service. We would like to return. We had an upstairs premium suite (#510) with a gorgeous view of sunsets over the Caribbean. We recommend the breakfast plan, as the breakfasts were excellent and served at a gorgeous setting right on the beach. The dinner menu at the hotel beachside cafe does change, but there are so many other fun restaurants nearby to explore. Everything is accessible from the beach; you can walk to dinner along the 7 mile shoreline and be welcomed at most places (even the high end ones) in your barefeet.
Surprises: Country Country's beach is quite small, but that hardly mattered as there is the long beach to explore. Negril has gotten very commercial, and it is noisy at night...something to consider during Spring Break season.
All of the hotel staff were very gracious and accomodating. Since the hotel is so small, you definitely feel known and cared for. There are plans to expand the hotel (acquiring property next door)...therefore I will inquire about possible construction next time.
Kudos to staff members Lee, Stacey, Andre, Sherry and others who made our vacation in Negril so relaxing.

we moved down to the beach from the West end area, we originally didn't book the beach because it sounded too commercial but in fact, although it is high season and it was busy, it is never overpowering and the beach is wonderful. The hotel is small with 14 cottages on the beach, with its own bar and restaurant. It is in the middle of the main hotel zone but nothing intrudes on it. The staff are great and the food excellent. The only problem was some kitchen noise from early in the morning but this would not affect the cottages slightly further from the beach.

We checked out the whole beach area before we moved down there, going into several and looking at accommodation. This one looked the most comfortable and relaxed, we deliberately excluded the massive all inclusives)and it was. It has just been bought by COYABA from Montego Bay, who are members of Leading Hotels of the World and Country Country is due to be expanded and upgraded. The staff say it will just be better, not different, and if that is really the case then it will be brilliant.

what a wonderful place!

We stayed here from 12/26-1/01. We wanted to experience the true Jamaica. This is it. First of all, you must meet Lee. He became a dear friend to us, helping us with everything from directions, transportation, recommendations, etc. He is such a nice person, we really miss him!
Country Country is a quaint, small, personal place. Our cottage was the closest to the beach, what we thought was the best one. We awoke every morning, slipped on some clothes, and walked to the restaurant for a wonderful cooked to order breakfast on the ocean. It doesn't get any better than that. The maid service was great, all of the employees were the best. The guard on the beach kept away the peddlers trying to sell things which was nice. Just a few steps away on the beach was Margaritaville where we spent alot of time. A great place for kids, with a playground, beach chairs, and Jimmy Buffett playing day and night. We highly recommend Country Country to anyone who wants to experience the true feel of Jamaica and meet lots of wonderful natives who are very accomodating and friendly. The trip to Mayfield Falls was great, with a personal tour guide to help us along. We also rented wave runners and the kids, ages 5 and 8 had a ball! Thank you Country Country for making our family vacation a happy and memorable one!

My daughter and I spent a week (1/4-1/11/05) at Country Country. The description of it we found on the internet was just what we were lookiing for. The actual experience was better. Quaint, colorful comfortable cabins. Happy, friendly staff.
The food was great and the bar/restaurant on the beach was lovely. We walked the beach everyday from end to end but were always happy to return to our chairs and the beach at Country Country. Lee set us up with towels and cold coconut milk and watched over us. He and the other staff are a big reason I would go back in a heart beat. They were eager to help and answered all our questions and needs with the warmest smiles.
We were sad to leave and determined to return.
