Just got back from a wonderful week at Toby Resort, I couldn't have asked for a nicer place for the money. Toby is very clean, spotlessly maintained, and the staff is very nice and helpful in all respects. Security is very good, and the vibes are mellow...

Toby is located on the corner of Sunset and Gloucester, just out the airport to the right mebbe 3-4 minutes...$7us taxi ride...

I was given room #10, which faces the big pool, very nice with a comfortable double bed, and a very clean tub for those who appreciate that...

Satellite TV with many choices, including American news channels, and WiFi access. Which is very sweet...

The 2 pools are very clean and well maintained the restaurant (Toby's Good Eats), is above average and prices are reasonable... Breakfasts are very good...

I read some posts complaining about the lack of hot water, this was never a problem during mi week...in fact; it was some of the hottest water I have ever seen. Gotta be careful of scalding...

The Hip Strip is right out the gate, you can walk the whole distance in 15 minutes easy, the hustle can be intimidating to a first time visitor, but returning guests will not be put off...just a little respect goes a long way....

The little public beach just to the right of the resort is priceless!

To sum up, Toby's is a fine choice, and I will return!!

As a long time visitor to Jamaica (this was trip 17) I know a little bit about it, so please take this as a reasoned review...

Does what it says on the tin

Cheap hotel with a good location between the public beach and Doctors Cave.

Pools nice, bar and restaurant fine and sensibly priced. Good staff who are freidnly and attentive; they will help you bok tours etc.

Rooms are (mostly - the bathroom was a bit grim) clean and the beds comfy. A/C is loud but works, and that's all I cared about.

You have to remember this is a 2* hotel and as such - you can't complain.

PS - Fox Sports on satellite, means you get Premiership footy for free :)

I stayed at this hotel twice this year. Obviously, I thought it was a great deal because I went back a second time. The rooms are clean and the staff is great. I'm not claiming that it's the Hilton or the Holiday Inn at that...but for the money you spend, it's well worth the experience. Some of the rooms are "motel" style and they only give you small soaps (just take your own) , but other than that what you see is pretty much what you get. The second time I arrived I was very surprised that the staff actually remembered my name. They made me feel like I was at home. It's in a great location(about a 5 minute walk from the beach), and it's on a street that the locals refer to as "The Hip Strip". There are numerous souvenier shops and restaurants for about a mile down. The only thing I didn't like about this hotel is that I did have to literally find the housekeeper to ask her to clean my room a time or two, but like I said...for the money I spent on my entire Carribean vacation, this small inconvience was taken in stride. I would recommend this hotel to someone who wanted an inexpensive Jamaican holiday. I also plan on going back again myself...REAL SOON!!!

What Toby lacks in Newness and Amenities they make up for it in Cleanness and Friendliness. Toby is a great value. The rooms are not picture perfect, but they are clean and I felt comfortable staying there. Sheets and towels were always fresh. I like the smallness of the resort and we never had to wait for anything like drinks at the pool or a table at the restaurant. It is at the end of the hip strip, but tucked away from the noise of the strip. Take a look at their web site and know what to expect.

In response to the review below. YOUR GONNA GET FLIES WHEREEVER YOU GO!!! What kind of complaint is that. You can't condemn a place because it has flies. I have flies in my house as I'm sure you do!! I stay at this hotel every year and think its great. Quiet, peacful, close to everything and very friendly. But I guess if thats the only thing you found to complain about thats a good thing. We'll take your review as being a positive towards the hotel.

This place is a dump. Had to check out at 5am because couldn't bear to be there a moment longer. Flies in the room - need I say any more. AVOID

i stayed at Toby's resort from Aug 21st-25th. Normally I stay in Ocho Rios, being that my fiance' is from there, but this time to celebrate our 1 year anniversary, we decided to stay somewhere different. Overall, like all the rest of the reviews, the place was nice. The staff was friendly, and the food was good and reasonable in price. One thing i would like for them to invest in, and that is some mini-fridge's. It was a pain trying to keep ice in the buckets all the times, especially after partying all night at Margaritaville, you may want to get a cold water or soda straight out your fridge, without having to trek over to the ice machine. Also the pics on the website make the pool look nicer and bigger than what it actually is. The 2nd pool which is by the restaurant looks like a deserted water hole. The game room was a pool table, and a few slot machines that were never plugged up. If the owners took the time and money to fix the place up, it may actually be really nice. For the money i paid for the room, i cant complain. The sheets were clean and the air was kicking at all times. The hotel was close to shopping, game room, margaritaville, many restaurants, and a few public beaches. My fiancee is from jamaica which made things and adapting a little more easier, but this is the definite place to stay if your looking for something with " no frills", just to lay your head.

I just got back from Jamaica, and stayed @ Toby's..It was well worth the money...The rooms were clean and the staff was so kind and friendly, this is not a 3 star so do not expect blow dryers in the room but Hey! bring your own...Carmon the bartender is awesome..And Paul the hotel driver is great He took us to Ochos Rios to swim with the Dolphin's and he made the trip great...I went alone on this trip so security is not a problem..I felt safe the whole time there...The food in the restaurant is good, Ben the chef, made sure I had Mango's for breakfast and that was awesome..It is walking distance to Sandles beach which is small and beautiful...And a short walk to Doctor's Cave beach which costs 5.00 dollars to use...Have a Mango Smoothie from the Bar....The whole trip was wonderful and I will be back in Oct, of this year....

It's not a 4 star hotel, but it's clean and the staff went out of their way to accommodate us. They are very friendly. The food at the restaurant was pretty good. Although the hotel is not up to date, it is enough to rest your head and not expensive. If you don't want to do the tourist thing, this is definitely the place to stay in MoBay.

We stayed at the Toby Resort for 3 nights. The place is quiet and the rooms are decent. The food in the restaurant is also very good. BUT here are some of the problems we encountered
1. The hot water takes about 45 mins to get hot.
2. It took us 1 whole day to get towels delivered to our room after calling the front desk several times.
3. In order to place a telephone call, you must call the front desk, give them the phone # and wait for them to call the #, they will then call your room back and connect you. We sometimes had to wait 20-30 mins just for them to dial the #.
4.There is nobody at the front desk after 11pm, the lobby is dark. We tried to make a phone call but was told by the security guard that since nobody is at the front desk to dial the # for us, we could not make calls after 11 pm . He also informed us that there were no payphones on the premises either.
5. There are, I believe, only 2 irons and ironing boards for the entire hotel. One of the came up missing, so we had to get on a waiting list for the one iron remaining. It took 3 hrs to get it. Once we got it, the front desk called every 10 mins to see if we were done with it--Pretty Aggrivating.
6. The room doors are not very secure, you get this antique looking key and you must lock the door after you enter or it will fly open.
7. When we got to our room the door was wide open, the A/C was not on. The room was very hot, it took about 2 hrs to get cool after turning on the A/C.
8. They are behind in technology, the front desk still does everything manually. There are no computers at the front desk.
This place is not a resort. They should call it Toby's Motel or The Last Resort. It should be your last resort before sleeping on the street. I WOULD NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN!!

We stayed at Toby's for three nights in mid July. The place is very well run and clean. Remember that this is not the Wyndham. It is a good, tourist class hotel for people that want clean and safe place to stay. Also, everything worked in the room although the hot water took a while to get there. The pool area is nice and the pool bar was very handy. We really liked the restaurant as it had fair prices and very good food. All of the people that worked there were very nice to us and I would definitely stay there again. It is quiet even with its proximity to the airport and hip strip. We paid $65/night and would highly recommend it there.

Be prepared for local interaction Say not thank you! and continue walking when asked if you need herbs, mon!

Hustling Say no firmly to people trying to sell on the streets or chat up women on their own. I found after the first coulpe of days I could walk around without being bothered. Once they realised I was not going to buy most of the people would greet me in normal friendly way when they saw me again. Misguided politeness saying "another time or later" just wastes the hustlers time and you lay yourself open to further harassment as they will remember what you said next time you walk past. Don't be taken in by the young men who approach you saying "You remember me I work at your hotel" this is usually just to get you into a conversation so they can sell you something or chat you up.

Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville Best place to go for Night Life no matter what age you are. From young adults to older adults. There is music for both young and old. There are two floors with different type of music. Its is such a great feeling, that you forget how old your really are.
