We came to the sandals inn after researching for many hours or reading reviews, looking at horror stories, and great reviews of the Inn and have to say that you need to pay attention to what people have to say! If you are looking for the big flashy resorts that have everything on site then do not stay at the inn. If you are looking for a place in Jamaica that truly makes you feel at home from the moment that you get off of the shuttle from the airport than read on.
Dalton, one of the many great staff met us at the door way and led us to the orientation room where we filled out the usual paperwork and enjoyed the first of many Jamaican rum filled drinks. His welcome tour was very warm and made us feel very comfortable. Our bags were in our room by the time we arrived upstairs, the air conditoner was at 16 degrees C. and never once gave us a problem. The nightly entertainment with Crazy Ray was always exciting, The shuttles to other larger MO Bay resorts is not a pain at all. withen 10 minutes you are at the Mo Bay sandals and a few minutes later you can be at the Royal.
The tours are all set up at the tour desk and they can assist with any questions, Do as many tours as you can afford to. They are worth every penny. I would not reccomend the castaway sunset seafood cruise. It is not the seafood that you would want and expect.
The staff is truly so friendly. Everyone in the resort is on a first name basis within 3 days. Everyone that was there as guests got along, all had a great time, and as long as you are looking for a small, intimate cozy atmosphere, the inn is the right place. if you are looking for the big time party, crowded resort where the staff are still friendly but you are just a room number go to other sandals resorts but for a place where you are treated like family, GO TO SANDALS INN!!!

I gave Sandals Inn a 5 because the advertising is extremely false. The beach is PUBLIC. I didn't even set foot on it. The pool is the size of a postcard. We were very disappointed with the hotel amenities and the PUBLIC beach. They advertised things that they didn't have, for example the internet. I had to take a shuttle to Sandals Mo Bay and pay $10 to access email and email our travel agent that we were not happy. As far as water activities they have none...u have to shuttle to the bigger Sandals resorts for that!!!! We spent our whole vacation on a shuttle to other resort sites. Thanks goodness for those options. I will say the Carlyle was great at the hotel and the staff was wonderful. But the advertsing and accomodations were very disappointng and we felt scammed when we arrived.

Me and the wife are going to sandals inn for the 4th consecutive summer in july. Both looking forwad to it very muh as we know what we will get. The service is fantastic and the staff canot do enough for you. A little laid back maybe but thats the nature of the average jamaican. Once you get through the customs at the airport and are ushered into sandals own reception lounge this is where the service really begins.
Your luggage is taken care of and you are given a drink wih can be enjoyed in the air conditioned lounge. The inn is only 5 minutes away and arrival you again are taken into a reception lounge, where drinks are served whilst the staff take care of the trivialities of checking in. Although trips and excursions are mentioned there is no hard sell, which is good, as me and the wife just basically chill for the 2 weeks we spend there.
The beauty (or at least one of them) of staying at the inn is the place is quite small and intimate and we find this much more friendly than the other sandals complexes in mo bay. Most of the guests are very pleasant, and, although most are from the u s of a there is the odd scattering of brits.
The food is excellent and if you like rum i would recommend you try a hummingbird and believe me i will be trying several. And then some.
We venture out to montego bay resort on occasions, mainly for the breakfast and for my wife to sunbathe on the beach. There are also activities such as windsurfing, snorkling canoeing etc but apart from them, give me sandals inn anytime.
There is a beauty spa at the inn which if i remeber rightly are quite expensive but if you cannot pamper the missus on holiday when can you?
All in all we both find it an excellent place to relax for our 2 weekly annula vacation and find it a good way to recharge the batteries.

The best holiday i've ever had!

I've been on many Caribbean All Inclusive holidays but Sandals Inn was the best by far. The staff are amazing - nothing is ever too much trouble. The food is fantastic at all 3 Sandals hotels in Mo Bay but I would recomend making reservations for Tokyo Joes and Royal Thai as soon as you arrive. The beach at the Inn isn't private and the locals do bathe there everyday but that didn't bother us, they are lovely people and it just makes the holiday more interesting. If you wanted to sunbathe in private you should go to the Mo Bay beach which is beautiful.

We've booked to go back again in May this year and we can't wait. Only 5 weeks to go!!

Absolutly the worst hotel I have ever stayed. How they call it a 4 star is beyond me.It is thre worst hotel I have stayed in and all the 3 star hotels I have stayed beat it by miles and the 4 star I have stayed do not compare. SLOW room service the longest took 3 hours despite ringing 3 times, dingy smelly rooms. The only good thing is you can go to the proper sandels but even these are very comercial and do not compare to any other 5 star, dont get me wrond they are very nice compared to the inn, but i think you are paying for the name and advertising more than quality!

Historical Traveller Reviews of Sandals Inn Hotel

t be fooled by the pictures

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I went to the Inn expecting what we saw in the pictures. Not at all. We had an upgraded room over looking the very public beach. the noise kept us from sleeping and as we sat on our balcony we we summoned by drug dealers and beggars. we could not leave anything on the sink in our bathroom because it drew bugs. The staff was very friendly however. The nightlife was nonexitent. We did spend most of our time at the other resorts, but upon returning to the inn one evening , we decided to go to the bar (which is very small. There was a sizeable group engaged in conversation. As we sat and tried to join in the conversation, we were asked if we were Canadian. When we stated that we were American we were greeted with laughter and one man actually came over to us to tell how horrible we were for voting for Bush (not that we ever said we did!) He proceeded to tell us that we were responsible for the IRA in England. My husband politely said that we were on vacation and did not want to talk about politics, but he wouldn't let up, so we went back to our room and tried to sleep (unsucessfully) The other Sandals resorts were beautifull, The Inn just doesn't compare

t be fooled by the brochure

from A TripAdvisor Member
We went to Sandals Inn in April of 2002. We were very dissapointed when we got to the hotel. The beach is across a busy street and nothing like the pictures in the brochure. The hotel is a little run down and not as elegant as depicted the pictures. When we got there we were first given a room with no windows - but after complaining we were upgraded to a lovely room with an ocean view.Regardless of our dissapointment with the hotel we had a great vacation. We only slept and ate breakfast at the inn. The rest of the time was spent at the other two resorts in Montego Bay. It involved alot of shuttling between resorts - but the busses were alway on time so if you are organized it should be not problem. We enjoyed the Sandals experience so much that we are trying the Sandals resort in St. Lucie

great times

Everything was great. The weather, food, rooms, hospitality, staff watersports, beaches and everything else you could need on a vacation was great.

If you are looking for a great place to stay with clean great views, warm weather, scuba diving and with a friendly staff look no further.

9 days insight of Montego Bay habits

from A TripAdvisor Member
On arrival at Hotel was surprised at location. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Room over entrance and shop was nice, balcony was nice size. Problems started at approx.5 am when dozens of locals congregated outside hotel ,proceeded to undress to go bathing in the sea[some were not too bothered about covering up private parts]. This would not have been too bad had it been a quiet activity, but car hooters were playing tunes and a party atmosphere denied all possibility of more sleep. This continued until 9.30am

Because the beach was so small and a mess after the morning activities a trip to the other two hotels was a necessity. This meant the day was spent travelling to and from other hotels.

IN the evening this performance was repeated, but with more noise and continued until after 1am. This left 4 hours of sleep if you were lucky.

After 9 sleepless nights we went to Negril where for the remaining 5 nights we had peace. It was a much more relaxing part or our holiday without the continuous need to travel to other hotels.

The Sandals Inn hotel would be great for what it is if only it was located somewhere else. We have had 5 holidays on islands in the Med and Caribbean in 2003 and show great interest in the culture and meeting the people, but this was not what we had expected

Good but not 5*

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed in January 2004 to celebrate a special occasion. Although the only complaints are the the courtesy bus to the 2 other hotels was often full, they ran out of wine glasses, there was no choice of dessert sometimes at the Baywindow and there was always a wait for a beaker at the beach drinks machine it was OK and at £1,200 each for 2 weeks all inc. we thought not bad value for money. We were disappointed however as we expected something really special, which it wasn't. Staff at the Inn were very friendly and the people of Jamaica made the holiday, not Sandals. We wont be rushing to sign up for them again.
Don't sleep at Montego Bay due to aircraft taking off over your head.
Royal Carribean was prettiest but entertainment a bit mature.

Hated Sandals Inn

from A TripAdvisor Member
We were very disappointed when we arrived at the Sandals Inn, Montego Bay. The Inn is across the street from a public beach that is full of town people. Also you must ride a shuttle across town to one of the main resorts to find decent restaurants, swim in a decent pool, or take advantage of the water sports. Had we known this about the inn we would have requested to be at the main resort but the brochure we received prior to was very deceiving. If you do stay at Sandals DO NOT stay at the Inn!!

Best Kept Secret in Montego Bay

from A TripAdvisor Member
When I arrived, I was a little shocked that it does not have its own beach and that it across the street from the ocean. We were soon past that when they took us into a room and popped open a bottle of champagne. From then on, it was magnificant. There is not a lot to do at the Sandals Inn but sit around and enjoy the beautiful weather. That is the best part because there are not very many people. The staff at the Sandals Inn take every person under their wing and make them part of the family. The hospitality was unreal. We didn't see that at the other 2 resorts. To do the water sports, beach, dining or anything else that you want to do on your vacation, all you have to do is jump on the shuttle bus and go to the other two resorts. If you are looking for a place that you can walk out of your back door and be on the beach, this is not for you. If you are looking for hospitality and a great relaxing vacation, you must stay here.

loved it

Went to the sandals inn for 17 days august / september 2003, will definately reccomend. The red stripe is spot on and very strong there!
girlfriend got a bottle of wycliffe champagne delivered to the room almost every night, real 24 hour room service. without the other two hotels you would be dissapointed but the play at 3 deal means theres always plenty to do. the staff at sandals were great, especially ms BIRDIE, shes well funny. this resort is a bargain and i'll definately go again.

Made to feel valued

from A TripAdvisor Member
We went to Sandals Inn to celebrate our 21st anniversary in September 2003. This was our 2nd visit having been there 13 years ago. From the first moment we couldn't have been made to feel more at home. Our room was superb, overlooking the pool and sea, and was spacious and well equipped. The only problem was the noise from the locals at the public beach - we were woken at about 0600 daily until we got used to it. It does become very frustrating. The "dine-around" arrangement is new since our first visit and it really does put a different "spin" on the holiday. The speciality restaurants at Montego Bay and Royal Caribbean were absolutely superb - top class. However I give thanks to a previous reviewer who advised booking as soon as you arrive - this is CRITICAL!
Our recommendation would be the Royal Thai at the RC, and the Italian at MoB. The food at Sandals was excellent, with the executive chef Washburn Lawrence deserving of the accolades British celebrity chefs receive. The "returners" dinner we were invited to, hosted by the charismatic manager Patrick Drake was one of the best evenings I can recall, made even better by the wonderful celebration of our anniversary. We enjoyed our first visit to Sandals Inn (then called Carlyle on the Bay) but this surpassed our keenest expectations. How I envy the Americans who have this little gem on their doorstep. Sandals - do not give up this beautiful oasis!!

Best of Both Worlds

from A TripAdvisor Member
Visited Sandals Inn October`03.Found staff very helpful and friendly and service to be of a very good standard.Food excellent in both restaurants.Bar staff fun and nice atmosphere. We found the amenities; beach, watersports and the other restaurants very good in the Montego Bay and Royal Caribbean. The choice of the busier two bigger Sandals and the more relaxed Sandals Inn gave us the best of both worlds.

Top Local Tips for Montego Bay

Bring bug repellant Several people were bitten by mosquitos and had severe reactions. Bring bug repellent and some benadryl in case of allergies

buy booze at the airport We bartered for discounts on booze at a few stores but still found prices were cheaper at the duty-free stores in the airport.

double check your departure time eventhough you are excited of being there dont rush when you fill out the departure information. If you miss your flight plan on spending another $1,000.00 to fly home.
