Last night, I returned from six days at Round Hill. Since I looked at this website before I made my reservation, I feel like posting this review of the place is the only thing that I can do now to ease my post-vacation, missing-Round Hill hangover.
But I must warn you: cliched terms that don't do the resort justice like "paradise" and "idyllic" keep popping into my mind as I write this as I struggle to find more descriptive and helpful terms to explain why I loved the place so.

When we made our reservations, we were initially booked in the main hotel at the resort - the "Pineapple House." We were upgraded to a villa, which we shared with one other couple (some really great folks from the DC area who we enjoyed getting to know), as a result of remodeling that they were doing on the hotel.

When we were taken to our villa, we were stunned by the view from our backyard. The villa overlooked its own private pool and the bay and was also flanked by mountains. Every morning when I woke up there, I would walk outside, take a deep breath, and say to myself: "This is why I work hard all the **** time: so that I can spend my vacations in a place like this." It is the kind of place that makes you feel wonderfully seperate from the real world. I had no desire to do anything other than to be exactly where I was when I was at Round Hill.

The interior of the villa was also exactly as promised on the hotel's website. Very elegant, understated and comfortable. Lots of white cotton, dark wood and tile floors. It was kind of like staying at the beach house of the very wealthy aunt whom we all wish that we had.

As for the negatives about the trip (lest you think I have been stripped of all objectivity as a result of my great experience there), I would be doing you a disservice were I not to mention the one downside to the place: the food. It was shocking to me that a place as beautiful and elegant (the dining area is perfect- like something out of a "Vanity Fair" spread) would offer such consistently mediocre fare. Every meal we had at the resort was average at best. Some meals were memorably horrible (avoid the "Lean Cuisine" quality curried lobster at all costs). The fact that the food was expensive would not have been so bad if it had been at least decent. But I can honestly say that a meal from any reliable chain restaurant (which I generally avoid) would have been worlds better than anything I managed to choke down at the resort. All things considered, however, the mediocre food was certainly not enough to keep me from returning (perhaps with some food stuffed in my bag).

In sum, I will definitely be returning to Round Hill and will recommend it without hesitation to my family, friends and coworkers. Some things in life are just worth it. This place is one of them.

Incredible Wedding Weekend!!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
My Wife and I recently got married at Round Hill. Best time of our lives!!!

We brought with us 50+ guests from Pennsylvania, California, Illinois, and even Germany. We couldn't have asked for a better time. The Round Hill folks coordinated a great rehearsal party at a private Villa, a spectacular wedding at the water's edge, a reception with a delicious Jamaican buffet and awesome reggae band, and a snorkeling trip on a giant catamaran.

Everything was ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!!! The Round Hill staff was attentive without being overbearing. Their efforts in putting this entire wedding week together will not be forgotten by anyone, especially us. For anyone thinking of having a destination wedding in paradise, you should consider this resort. We wish we could relive it over and over again. Everything came together like they said it would.

The hotel rooms are very stylish and are a stone’s throw from the water. We, however, recommend staying in one of the Villas up in the hills. All of the Villa suites are out of this world. Each has its own character with great views of the Caribbean. Best of all, the villas come with housekeepers who make breakfast every morning. Waking up to fresh fruit, eggs, and banana pancakes is the way to go!

Our guests can't say enough great things about Round Hill, especially the service from the staff. They will have many return visits from our friends and family (and hopefully some additional weddings).

The best word to describe Round Hill is Classy. The accommodations were great, the food was great, the bands were awesome, and even the weather was great. The new spa is also beautiful. The hotel is managed extremely well and takes advantage of the Jamaican culture and scenery. My wife especially enjoyed the daily tea, complete with snacks and desserts. They have great musicians to keep you entertained during dinner as well. We are looking forward to bringing our future children to Round Hill, as it is very kid-friendly. They have it all.
My wife and I plan on making the trip back to Round Hill an annual event.

Nice Work Round Hill!!!!

The Round Hill Hotel and Villas is the best resort in Montego Bay and quite possibly Jamaica. I visited in mid August...The facilites are wonderful and the staff are even better. The rooms are spacious and they are being improved this Fall! The Round Hill is worth its price tag...since everyone needs to slurge every once in a while. The facilities were first rate and the extra touches of the staff make the Round Hill a place I am sure to return. Of special note are the Villas (especially the "Stella" villa), the Spa, the 2nd floor Pineapple suites, and the great staff!

Perfection at this tropical oasis

We were headed to another destination but the air carrier DCA (another story) had huge troubles. Early Sunday AM the 8th I called Air Jamaica and found flights to MBJ from BON. We took at 3 PM flight and arrived in MBJ 1.5 hours later. We had no reservations and had no idea where to stay so took a taxi man's advice and tried a city hotel. NOT GOOD. In the meanwhile, while lying in bed at this not so great place, I recalled friends had just spent some time at Round Hill. I did a quick call at 8 AM on Monday and secured a reservation with the help of one of Round Hill's MANY kind tourism professionals. We rented a car and were at RH by mid day.

Round Hill is 15 min. from the hustle and bustle of the Hip Strip. They offer complimentary shuttle to town and Tryal (golf) as well as Sunday Mass. It is set on a hillside location overlooking the sea from two sides. The villas and cottages offer privacy and views. The gardens are well manicured and well, the assortment of flora and fauna is staggering. Our villa had a book on Caribbean plants so I spent much time roaming our private garden identifying many unusual plants and flowers.

The property has every amenity needed: kids club, nannys, a WIDE variety of watersports, an incredible spa with very talented and skilled professionals. There is a fitness center, library, business center, art gallery and TOO much more.

Afternoon tea is sublime. I have enjoyed tea at Browns, Dorchester, The Ritz (BOS), Waterloo, Reefs and more (Bermuda) and heck everywhere...This was one of the best. The assortment of teas are extensive and the sandwiches and sweets are divine. This alone made my trip worth while.

We had cottage 10, a lovely hillside location with pool and jacuzzi. We shared it with other guests in the villa (there are 3 units all very private from one another) but we never saw them. My child had her own suite downstairs with another private sitting area and very comfortable furnishings. Our villa had an extensive library and games as well. Video and TV are available for rental god forbid. Our bathroom was massive. We had a huge sunken tub, double sink and large shower. There were thirsty towels and lovely boutique soaps and toiletries. Our dressing area was also massive with large areas for storage. There is an in room safe. We should mention we never locked our rooms. I have never felt so safe as I did at RH. Our cottage has it's own FT gardener and two house keepers/cooks...yes, we had our OWN breakfast made and served, cooked to order in our villa. The Jamaican breakfast consisted of Ackee and Saltfish (heavenly), roasted breadfruit (first brought over by Capt. Bligh on the Bounty I think..) and fresh local fruits. One day we had homemade muffins with Tamarind Jam..DELISH..

There is too much to is pricey but everyone deserves a splurge in's worth EVERY penny. I highly recommend RH for a wedding, honeymoon, reunion or even a family holiday. It caters to the rich and famous and to folks of every walk of life...we were welcomed with open arms.

Round Hill - Definately Overrated

from A TripAdvisor Member
I attended a wedding at the Round Hill in addition to spending 4 days as a guest at the hotel, and was extremely disappointed with quite a few things.

The positives.... The villas are amazing, spacious and private. The grounds of the total propoerty are exceptional. The spa was fabulous.

The negatives....The hotel rooms are old, and in need of rennovation. The food was over-priced and mediocore at best. there is ony 1 restauirant at the resort, and because the property is very secluded it is not easy to get around, shop, explore and try or eat anywhere else.

It rained on the day of the wedding, and I found that the hotel staff did not have a well-thought out contingency plan for the weather challenges. They were extremtyl unorganized and my family was shocked at how poorly the wedding turned out.

The beach was small, but I did not have a problem with that becasue it was clean and quiet.

The staff was extremely accomodating and friendly.

All in all I would probably not stay there again, nor would I recommned anyone to have their wedding there.

If you are looking for complete serenity, and privacy then the Round Hill would be ok for you.

But if you are looking for a little bit of nightlife, things to do, and just overall fun, DO NOT STAY THERE.

...and don't even think about it unless you are going to get a villa. The hotel rooms are just bad.

My two best friends and I stayed at a Villa at Round Hill over Memorial Day Weekend and we had the best vacation EVER! The villa was immaculate; the service was top rate and the food was excellent! We did not want to leave! I recommend the Round Hill Villas as one of the best customer focused resorts I have stayed at. If you are looking for privacy and excellent service....this is the place to be! We are going back again in November 2004 with more of our friends! I recommend the resort highly!

A little Slice of Heaven

I went to the Round Hill with a group of about 20+ people. I could have not loved this place anymore. The villas were amazing, the service was supurb, and the fun was continious. There is ALWAYS something to do there..Spa treatments (I had one and I dosed off..when I woke up, I didnt know where I was..thats how relaxing it is), Tennis, water sports, fine dining, aerobics classes,or just relaxing at the beach. Anyone of any age can have fun! The resort itself was gorgeous...the view from my villa looked like a post card. The people who work there are ALWAYS there to serve you with a smile! So if your looking for a place full of fun, relaxation, and tranquility, go to the round hill!!

PS. I even got certified for scuba diving there!

Round Hill is overrated - The meals are too formal, and the beach is tiny and not that great. The coral is dead (but that is happening all over). We thought it was way over priced. Our room was nice, and the pool was nice. One of the waiters scowled at us all the time. It seemed like alot of the people staying there were snobby. Thanks for letting me share!

Magical Round Hill

from dunnymao
I wanted to take the time to thank you and your excellent staff for such royal treatment during our wedding and honeymoon. I fell in love with Round Hill 4 years ago at another wedding, and I had dreamt of having my own wedding there. To actually realize my dream and have the experience be beyond my highest expectations, was incredible. My husband and I, along with our families and all our friends had a most amazing time, and we will cherish the memories forever. There is something truly magical about Round Hill, and that spirit definitely touched our ceremony, reception and after party. How else can you explain the fact that the rain stopped 15 minutes before the ceremony and blessed us with a beautiful sunset and rainbow? That we were able to dance under the stars and then all go swimming at villa 18's pool after dinner?

From the gorgeous setting, to the great staff to the delicious food, thanks again for providing us with such an unforgettable experience. You have just gained a number of life-long Round Hill guests. Expect to see us next year for our first anniversary and for many years to come.'

After 2nd Visit, We Still Love Round Hill

from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I and our 7-month old son just returned from Round Hill for our second visit in the last year. The hotel is the best! The ground are gorgeous with amazing plantings and lush flower beds and scenic views of the hills and the sea. The staff is phenomenal (the best of anywhere I have stayed). They remember your name, cater to every need and are so personable and charming. The villas are beautiful - some are furnished a lot better than others, but all are perfectly situated to enjoy the scenery while being very private. The hotel is extremely child and baby friendly with great nannies and staff members always doting on the kids. However, if you choose to have a romantic getaway at Round Hill, you won't be disappointed, as there are plenty of tranquil spots, including the spa and grounds around it that are off limit to children. Tennis facilities are great, and the rates for hitting with a pro are incredibly reasonable, as are the ball boys. Diving is so accessible from the resort, and the dive staff is top notch. Finally, the beach, while small, is well taken care of and the water is perfect! I could write on and on about how fantastic the resort is but these are a few thoughts from someone who plans to make a habit of visiting Round Hill.
