DANGEROUS THIEFS entering Rooms

Reported armed break-ins occuring in the middle of the night into rooms while people are sleeping; robbing guests of any lightweight disposable valuables like money and jewlry. electronics etc. Rose hall resort appears to have incompetent security and an apathetic General Mgr.O'Connely ,Property Mgr. and Hotel Mgr. staff. They just haven't show any concern about saftey and security. Confirmation of break ins and roberies can be obtained with Montego Bay Jamaican Police. DANGEROUS PLACE!

I have been coming to the Rosehall Hotel for five years in a row, sometimes twice a year, and yes I see where there is lots of room for improvement here. The rooms are totally antiquated and in a very diplorable condition. And as far as the entertainment, they need to get rid of that department because all they do is joke around an flaunt their sexuality on the guest, especially ones with kids. I will return, but not until the hotel is fully renovated and revamped.

This is a review to the latter half of my stay at the Rose Hall. To be fair, I did get a call back from the GM (Mr. O'Connelly) on the day following my review. He explained to me how they were between owners and that there was a lot of change going on. In addition, he explained that the new owners were investing in renovations to update the rooms and property. The morning of my wedding started with the usual rude treatment at breakfast. When we asked for tea and chocolate milk for one of the children the waitress replied (hot or cold) and rolled her eyes at us when we naturally assumed she was referring to the tea. The Rose Hall did do an excellent job at my wedding and the reception (which I'm sure is due to the GMs insistence that I get VIP treatment during these events). The rest of the stay wasn't too bad, but continued with the usual mix of employees (happy to extremely disgruntled). On check-out I found a lot of duplicate charges (that were already paid for in my wedding package) and had to miss my bus to the airport to address this situation. To Janice’s (the wedding coordinator) credit she helped me straighten this out and put me in a cab to the airport at the courtesy of the hotel. However, a few duplicate charges still showed up on my credit card bill two months later. I've read some of the later reviews referring to my character and have to wonder what these people are thinking as they sit in their Shanties. As someone that has traveled extensively since 1981, I can tell you that I rarely have a bad stay (and have never been pushed to write a negative review before). Anyone that knows me would tell you that I'm probably one of the most patient people they know, and it takes a lot to push me over the line. However, once I've been pushed to far, I do push back. In the end you'll have to make up your own mind whether to take the 50% chance of having your vacation ruined, or go somewhere that has a better rating.

Terrific place to stay

Michael, a previous reviewer, must be a real winner to travel with. I could not believe his tirade about this hotel. My husband and I got married there in May of 2001 and have been back eight times since, the last being in December of 2005. We are going back in a few weeks to celebrate our 5th anniversary. The staff is awesome and we have made some really great friends over our visits and look forward to seeing them, just like family. We have never experienced the kinds of rudeness he describes. The hotel is in the process of being updated but it certainly is nothing like he describes it to be. My husband and I are frequent travelers and have stayed in various types of accommodations and we have no complaints about this property.

Great Beach

I have been to this hotel a number of times over the past 10 years and I have never experienced anything like what that previous reviewer Michael referred to. The beach is great, the food ranged from ok to really good depending on which restaurant you pick, and the staff--especially those at the beach and the pool bars-- have always been friendly and helpful to me. The rooms could use an upgrade, and given the fac that the hotel is under new ownership, that facelift is purported to be imminent. However, take care to note that this is no longer a Wyndham hotel, but simply the Rose Hall Resort. A great place to take the kids and family-- provided you're not a whiny primadonna who expects 5+ star luxury for 4 star prices.

Me and husband and daughter went to th Rose Hall Resort on March 24- the 31st. It was okay i found the staff to be very rude. When we were done there i heard that they are getting new owners so maybe with that change things will become better. The food was good. The water park is awesome you will love it!! The ocean was nice but small.

Beautiful mature flora. On a breath-taking golf course. Nice shallow beach. Great water park for kids (or us adults that like to act like a kid at times) Only real problem is that you are sort of isolated from the town and the cab rides are expensive, so you are captive to their food and gift prices... But still very nice and I would go again.

What a Nightmare!

I am sitting in my room at the Wyndham Rose Hall as I write this review. The people giving this hotel a good review have got to be hotel employees or on crack! (If not they are certainly smoking something). First of all, if you’re a Wyndham by Request member, forget it, they are no longer owned by Wyndham and my Wyndham by Request amenities no longer apply. Check in took nearly 90-minutes, even though there were only three people in line. While waiting to check in, I witnessed every person in front of me throwing a fit because the resort screwed up their reservation or downgraded them in some way. When I checked in I was told I would have to wait 90-minutes for a room and instructed to come straight back to the front desk to get my keys and that I didn't have to wait in line again. We are here for our wedding so we had my fiancé’s wedding dress and a lot of luggage (four children between us both). The Bell Captain refused to check our luggage as the luggage check is only for outgoing luggage. In coming luggage must be piled up together outside. When I brought my concerns to the manager, who is also the concierge (I guess they save money by giving everyone two jobs) she said I could leave the luggage by her desk and assured me it would be safe. Went to lunch and the service was horribly slow, even though the restaurant was virtually empty. The waiter was horribly rude when we asked for another coke for one of the children. Ninety minutes later I went back to the front desk (now there was a line filling the lobby for check-in) and I was told I would have to wait in line again to get my keys. When we finally got our keys we went to get our luggage and found that two pieces were unzipped and stuff was missing (stolen). Got to the room and it was a disaster. When I told this to the wedding coordinator she said “you know it’s an old hotel and hasn’t been renovated since 1979.” My reply was that had my travel agent informed me of this I would have thought long and hard before coming to this place. The bathrooms are not ventilated and have no outlets, so if you’re a woman good luck using curling or straightening irons. Phones didn't work, throw rug was seedy. Toilet's hard to flush. Phones that did work had message lights flashing, checked these and they were messages left for guests that were here up to four weeks ago (apparently they don't reset the message system when you check out). By the way, all the rooms are the same, a deluxe room simply means that you can either see (or glimpse) the ocean from your room, even if you have to stretch half-way over your balcony to do it. Overall the attitude of staff and management was rude to apathetic. Nobody cares or bothers to fix anything (even room repairs) because nearly everybody is complaining so if they do it for you they would have to do it for everyone. Keep in mind that I'm getting married here so I am getting special treatment (think of how horrible treatment would be if you are just a regular guest). Even the General Manager (a Mr. Connell) hasn’t returned my phone calls or messages yet). The owners (Blackstone Reality) also have not given me the courtesy of a response. The hotel leads you to believe there are eight restaurants and a lot of variety. In reality there are only four restaurants (the rest are poolside hamburger joints). Of these four restaurants only two qualify for your “all-inclusive” meals. One that is a small café and the other is an outside buffet. The two classier restaurants come at a premium price. So far the restaurants have decent food but the all inclusive plan is far lacking compared to the last resort I stayed at in Montego Bay (the Round Hill which was amazing!). You really have to be on-guard for getting hit up with extra charges that aren't covered on the all-inclusive; even then I found myself spending about $100 in extras on the first day alone. When it comes to recreation this place is horribly small for a resort (nothing compared to how huge it looks in their brochures and website). Unlike the last time I was in Montego Bay, this resort’s beach is not on the calm clear waters of the bay, but in the Caribbean Sea, which is choppy and murky. The pools are Rose Hall’s only saving grace but they even have their problems. You are given a towel card at check-in for each guest in your party. Then you must trade in the card for a towel at a booth in the pool/beach area. When you are through, you return the towel for another card. Beware if you are a large family (like my family of six) apparently the folks at the towel booth don’t like to give away the towels in a large quantity. We decided to go for a late afternoon swim and I was refused towels when I handed in my six towel cards because I didn’t just check-in (apparently new check-ins get towel preference). The woman at the towel booth was the most abrasive hotel clerk I have dealt with so far and when I asked her how the two boys already in the pool were supposed to dry off she replied “it’s not my problem.” I had to beg her for two towels for the boys that were already swimming. Your best bet (if you’re crazy enough to come here) is to have the family trade in their cards for towels two at a time. If your only consideration is bringing the kids to a place that is so dilapidated that they can tear it apart and you want a good pool, then the Rose Hall is for you. Otherwise, I would strongly recommend against it. I have travelled extensively since 1986 and can unequivocally say that this is the worst hotel that I ever patronized (that is saying a lot considering that I’ve stayed at some pretty bad placed). I shudder to think how badly this place will screw up my wedding tomorrow. I will come back to Jamaica (before this I never had a bad experience here). However, I WILL NEVER COME BACK TO THE WYNDHAM ROSEHALL. Furthermore, I think Liberty Travel should close their doors if they are foolish enough to recommend this resort to anyone in the future after my giving them this feedback.

My first visit to Jamaica 02/11/2006 - 02/14/2006) and this hotel was amazing. Look out for special offers especially the webpage offer. The All Inclusive package could not have been any better. Staff very polite, friendly and intelligent. Great choice of diners, lots of fun for a couple or family vacation and also relaxing for singles. I definitely will go back to the rose hall resort and I strongly recommend this hotel.
