Very Carefull Driving a Car in Santo Domingo could be very dangerous, they have almost same driving laws as the states, but Dominicans DO NOT RESPECT any driving law. The driving is reckless and inconsiderate. Police agents called AMET do not enforce the laws except for Driving while talking on your cellular. Red lights and stop signs are not respected, so you must be extra careful in order to avoid a collision even with a green light. Don't waste your time talking to police traffic agents, they care less. I strongly do not recommend any person who doesn't know the Dominican driving culture to drive a car. About the Taxis DO NEVER TAKE A TAXI FROM THE STREETS, always ask for the hotel to provide one and if possible make them wait and ask how much it would be the fee before leaving Non-hotel Taxi drivers are sly and cunning, they would try to take advantage of your ignorance, and their taxis are filthy and worn out.
