Fly to Samana Airport Even if you have to spend extra, try to fly in to Samana Airport to visit the area. The trip from Santo Domingo takes 5 hours. There are two options, one takes you around the mountains and the other is through the mountains. We chose the first option as we had heard that although the drive through the mountains is prettier it is also more precarious.
