Historical Traveller Reviews of Zoetry Agua Punta Cana Hotel

If you want relaxation, good service and food, go to Zoetry

from GordonIM
My review will be very similar to the January 10th. Zoetry is a very, very good all-inclusive. The service is excellent. They go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. There's none of that slacker service one sometimes gets in the Carribean or at an all-inclusive. The food is very good, which is also a nice surprise for an all-inclusive. The drinks, beer, and wine flow freely, if that's what you want. The rooms are very spacious, nice and comfortable. We also upgraded for the Ocean Front room. If you can afford it, do so. The beach and ocean are literally 10 feet from your deck. Nothing like waking up and seein the ocean from your bed. And if the weather is not beach weather, which in the winter is a possibility, you can still enjoy the ocean view from your deck. And there is more privacy in those rooms.
If you just want to chill out and do nothing, in a quiet and uncrowded resort, Zoetry is great for that. If you're looking for lots of people, activities, musice, etc, then Zoetry is not the spot. They do offer some activities, like horse-back riding, and some day tours, but they are limited. I saw some folks playing golf, but I don't know how far the courses are. The tennis court is still not ready, so that has to be fixed by them. Driving 15 minutes to Dreams to play tennis was not ideal. And the gym needs to be renovated and updgraded. The gym is pretty weak, and is a struggle to get a good workout in. The spa is very nice. Beautiful spa facilities, and good massages.
The ultimate decider...will we go back, and the answer is a resounding yes (if that's the kind of vacation we're looking for at that time).

If you want to relax in a really nice hotel, go to Zoetry Punta Cana

from andygordon
My husband & I just got back from Zoetry and have nothing but praise for the staff and the hotel. The setting was just as we'd hoped for - quiet, relaxed and really comfortable. We upgraded to a beachfront room which was worth the money - we were literally 5 steps from the beach. The room was nicely appointed with great bedding, stocked mini fridge (that was always refilled) and even a beach bag. The staff was incredibly warm, friendly and genuine - whatever they could do to help us they did. The spa is upscale and very serene but the gym equipment is not great (the machines are a bit outdated & the room is extremely hot). The food was surprisingly tasty - very fresh, good amount of choice and the chef had no problem with special requests. The grilled lobster was fantastic! Bottom line: if you are looking for a chill & super relaxing vacation, Zoetry is a great choice!

A pampered retreat

from SkyeC
We despartely needed to get away from the bitter cold of the midwest and gave the travel agent 3 days to find us a place to retreat. We were so turned off by the humongous, Vegas-looking cookie cutter chain resorts by just looking at the pictures. Our travel agent suggested Zoetry Agua. One look and we felt in love, and we were so glad that the real thing is as good as the pictures!

We love that Zoetry is big enough to have our own privacy yet intimate enough that we can walk everywhere and make friends with other guests if we choose to. We requested for an upgrade to an ocean front room, let me tell you, it is worth every single penny. The beach is just steps away from our room with incredible view. We feel that all the guest suites in the property is very well located. The suites either have a serene garden view, have a "private" lagoon at the door step or of course the ocean view. We love the architecture of the Zoetry Agua. It is so well blended with its natural surroundings. Each turn and corner is inviting and interesting to look at. We took more than 20 pictures of the lobby alone from different angle.

We love the food. The best yogurt with honey and nuts, the seafood bisque is out of this world, the pastries for breakfast make me break my "no-white-flour" diet, the BBQ lobster is a dream come true for seafood lover. Did I mention the Fish ceviche? I can eat that for every single meal!

The service? We were so pampered by each and everyone. From the General Manager to the bell service. The stuff is friendly, accomodating and ready to serve. They seem to be happy doing what they are doing. The smiles and the warmth in thier services make a solid foundation for creating a fantastic vacation.

The weather was warm but humidity was low which was heavenly. Everyday we sat by the beach on the comfy beach chair and read or watch the waves. We took long walks on the beach when we were tired of sitting. The sand is so soft it feels like having a foot massage when we stepped on it. The sea was rough when we were there, so we swam at the beautiful infinite pool which is right next to the beach. When we were hungry and thristy, we just proceeded to the restaurant or had our meals delivered to the beach to us. We felt like king and queen. The biggest problem we had was to decide what to eat and which restaurant to have dinner. There are only 3 restuarants but the food are good and we could send in request to the kitchen for a meal cook specially for us.

We love the bathroom in our suite. Although there was a musty smell in the suite when we first "move in", but the condition improve when we turn on the A/C. The bedroom is too big and it is not fully utilised e.g. not enough furniture. But who needs extra furniture when you have a beautiful beach and an incredible spa!

Mosquitos ruled early morning and eveing. But the situation was under control. It did not affect our enjoyable breakfast and dinner at the outdoors.

We had a great time at Zoetry Agua. What a great way to start the New Year!!!

The most relaxing holiday we have ever had!

from TopCat_Sussex
My husband and I needed a relaxing holiday after the trials of 2009 and were thankful to have found all we needed in this beautiful, tranquil hotel. From the moment we arrived we knew this was going to be an amazing holiday. We were met at the airport by a limo bus – where the driver (Victor) served champagne before setting off for what he likes to warn you could take an hour. However 45mins later (it didn’t seem this long after a couple of glassed of the champagne and a very pleasant journey!) we arrived at the hotel.

On arrival we were greeted with a cocktail and shown to our room via the beautiful gardens, the flowers are beautiful; Bird of Paradise etc. and the pool which is lagoon style and then flows towards the beach/sea, as an infinity. No check in required as they know who you are! All the staff are so friendly – the first Caribbean Island I have been to where they are so! The rooms are fantastic - a modern and well equipped room and a beautiful bathroom! The maids come in at least twice a day, so it is always clean and you will be impressed with the towel replacement!

The beach is also fantastic and enjoys much calmer waters than the neighbouring hotels thanks to a sheltering reef. it is raked daily to keep a pristine appearance. Also no endless rows of sunbeds, thanks to the fact there is only 50 rooms and not a beach seller in sight!

We were one of the first guests since the hotel re-opened after 8 months on 1st November and the new management have done a great job getting this resort back to it’s former glory and making further improvements, which we were interested to see develop every day. Natalia the GM is the most personable Manager we have ever met and the team who surrounds her are also very welcoming and are there if you need anything!

I can honestly say this is the first holiday we have taken and felt within the first day or so, completely relaxed. It would normally take the first week to do so anywhere else. We have stayed at hotels like the Banyan Tree and Calabash, both fantastic hotels and the Zoetry Agua is up there with them, especially as it is all inclusive, we found this great value for money. There are no activities here, just what we wanted from this holiday, having had a very busy year. The atmosphere is one of tranquillity and we met other like minded souls there too, which made the evenings fun and lunchtimes interesting. The Spa adds to the pampered feel definitely another bonus to this already relaxing resort not to mention the beds being so comfortable!

We also found the food and beverages excellent; from the champagne in the room every day to the amazing cocktails from Cicillio in the evenings. The breakfast – eggs however you want them, fruit, yogurt, porridge, pastries – really anything you may like- to the dinners which are delicious and presented beautifully – in one of the restaurants or on the beach - no all-inc buffet style here! In fact we had a wonderful evening with a few other guests, one of whom was celebrating his birthday and chose to spend it with us. The restaurant Manager setup a private beach dinner for us all and created a great atmosphere. The food was to a Michelin star standard, including the birthday cake!!

If you ever doubted going to the Dominican Republic this hotel and the staff will change your mind for good! Wanting a quiet relaxing holiday – This is the place for you! I would also really recommend the Zoetry Agua resort for anyone looking for a Caribbean honeymoon!

The perfect place to get away from it all!

from AlexD_NL
Zoetry Agua Punta Cana re-opened after extensive refurbishments in early November 2009 and my girlfriend and I were the first guests after the re-opening. We spent an absolutely amazing week there. We are not the type of people that typically write travel reviews, but the friendliness and hospitality of the staff simply requires us to share with you how great this place is.

It already started with the pick-up at the airport: nice large limo-style transportation with drinks and music to selection to quickly drive us to the resort. Upon arrival, we were surprised to find at least 40 staff, including management, waiting for the first guests. We were treated like royalty with a red carpet, a ribbon to cut, champagne, a photographer and smiles all around!

We stayed in a large beachfront room from which you step right onto the beach. Very tastefully decorated, clean and comfortable. The resort has an excellent size, approximately 50 or so rooms, so you never feel like you are staying in one of those huges resorts where you are just a number. In fact, all staff at Zoetry Agua make a tremendous effort to make you feel special, at home and treat you as if you are the most important person in the world. Whatever request you may have, they will try to meet it with a big smile: candle-lit dinners on the beach, special spa treatments, tours around the island - you name it, and they will try to organise it for you.

The food was also perfect - you can choose to have breakfast in one of the restaurants, including one on the beach, but we typically had breakfast on the terrace of our room. Especially the freshly squeezed fruit juices are a perfect start to the day. For lunch and dinner, the chef keeps surprising with amazing three of four course dinners with fresh seafood, lobster, steak, mexican or anything else if you fancy eating something particular. They serve fine wines, especially the white burgundy is a gem, while they also keep the champagne flowing freely if you are more into bubbles.

As far as things to do, Zoetry Agua is quite far away from everything and does not cater for people that are looking for action or nightlife. However, if you are simply looking for a perfect place to spend a quiet week with your other half to recover from a busy life at home and want to be pampered by true hospitality in an amazing location, Zoetry Agua Punta Cana is the place to go. We have already decided to go back to unwind again in 2010!

Not your usual all inclusive.....

from JonnyB1971
My friend and I booked this holiday because we both really needed some chill out time, sun, beach and good food. We found an absolute gem in the Zoetry Agua. The staff were very friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived and go out of there way to make your stay a real pleasure. Natalia, the general manager, is always around, very friendly and looks after any request. The rooms were also amazing, large and kept very clean. All the bathrooms we saw also had twin basins, a separate bath and walk in shower. We started in a room which overlooked the gardens and then upgraded to a beach front room which was beautiful and well worth it.
There are three restaurants, which are all lovely, especially the one on the beach. The menu's are not large but are delicious and very well presented. However it is worth asking for the plain grilled whole lobster which we did on several occasions. Easily the best lobster I have tasted. My friend and I also went fishing one day and brought back a Mahi Mahi which was bbq'd for us on the beach that evening. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff.
We also met some great people and had quite a few very amusing late nights. I also went and played golf one afternoon with one of the guys we'd met at the hotel. There are a large list of other activities including diving, snorkeling, visits to cigar factories etc which the hotel can also arrange for you. The hotel can also arrange a helicopter transfer to the airport which we did at the end of the holiday. You get picked up on the beach!! What a way to end the holiday.
Overall the Zoetry Agua is a beautiful hotel. There are only 53 rooms unlike the mega all inclusives that populate the area. You pay a bit more but the feel of the place and the service you get far far outweighs this. The only small downside was the occasional language barrier with the staff. To be honest this isn't a complaint as I'm a typical Brit who's rubbish at languages and when you're in the Caribbean it really doesn't matter if the wrong meal turns up every now and then. I'm usually ready to go home by the end of a holiday but not this time.

This is Paradise and I did not want to leave!

I had the best holiday in my life at this resort. I have nothing negative to say whatsover.
My friend and I were treated like royality from the minute we arrived. The Hotel is beautiful and the staff were ALL friendly and did whatever they could to make our stay fabulous. The rooms are out of this world and I would very much recommend a beachfront, having stayed in two rooms.. pool side/ garden and then upgraded to the beach.
The food is very good and if you are are not feeling like the menu.. then just ask the staff and they will do the best to russell up something tasty.
The hotel Manager is very much on hand and I felt like I was on my honey moon.. even though I wasn't! I would recommend this to couples who want to relax and chill or honeymooners. I met like minded people when I was there and spent many a night drinking wine and eating lobster on the beach and then chilling on the beach the next day! The spa is incredible.. The reflexology treatment left me in a daze for days. They have three restaurants which are all incredible but if you don't fancy that.. they will make you a candle lit dinner wherever you want.. on the beach.. or your room... up to you.. its totally cool! I went deep sea fishing and they cooked the fish I caught.. how cool! There is cigar making lessons, yoga and horse riding and much much more. Dont doubt me.. GO! Its the best!

Go now...before everyone knows about it

After researching a number of the resorts in the DR, my wife and I decided to spend a vacation at Zoetry. The deciding factor was my personal interaction with the General Manager, Natalia, who assured me that she would be in attendance to ensure that our stay was pleasant. I had some reservations based on the mixed TA reviews, but decided that we would give the resort a try, as they recently reopened under new management.
We took the helicopter from the airport to the resort, landed just in front of our beachfront villa, and were met with refreshing rum cocktails. That began four days of wonderful relaxation.
Pros: very casual and relaxed atmosphere, extremely attentive and considerate staff, who are genuinely pleasant and eager to please, well appointed spacious rooms, above average food for an all inclusive resort, and of course, drop dead views.
Cons: there are still minor kinks that need to be worked out in terms of communication between departments, and although the staff does try, having a Spanish phrasebook is handy to prevent miscommunication, quite far from anything if you are looking for activities, issues with helicopter transport back to airport (although this is a separate vendor).
Summary: The resort has recently reopened, and there is a total commitment to making it a world class travel destination. It is best for couples looking to relax, as the resort is not geared towards a "disco" type crowd. As they work out their reopening kinks, the resort is a tremendous value. All in all, we tend to be very particular travelers, but the sea, surf and genuine warmth of the staff far overcame the minor glitches we found. If you go (which I highly recommend), make it a point to have the barbecued lobster, which is quite possibly the best shellfish I have eaten anywhere.

Top shelf customer service

Our visit to Zoetry Agua Punta Cana was most enjoyable. The staff at this property were extremely helpful, courteous and always friendly. The food and drink were in abundant supply with high end liquors and gourmet food. Special requests were handled efficiently without hesitation. The rooms were large with walkout patios, facing the ocean. All the facilities at the hotel were kept in clean, orderly fashion. The people and facility were all good.
Other considerations would include the weather (Mid Dec.) it rained on and off during our stay, however the one constant was the wind. It was rather windy on the beach but dissipated as you moved into the property area. Also, Zoetry Auga is a long way from most island activities. It is approximately an hour drive in each direction to many of the tourist attractions (snorkeling with the rays, deep sea fishing, cigar factory, etc.) and the roads back and forth are challenging, however the transport vehicles used are very nice and comfortable.
All in all, Zoetry Agua in Punta Cana was an enjoyable experience.

The hotel is beautiful, the grounds are well maintained and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel is very tranquil and relaxing, the lovely gardens, pool areas, thatched roofs, and beautiful beach really do create the feel of a true tropical paradise. There are lovely little decking areas outside the rooms with very comfortable sun loungers. We had a ground floor room and could just walk out of room into the pool, which gently winds its way through the resort. The large room definitely had the 'wow factor' as soon as you walk in, with beautiful hard wood floors throughout, large and comfortable bed looking out patio doors into the lovely pool and grounds. The room had his and hers sinks, free mini bar, large shower and bathroom area. You get free international calls and a free bottle of champagne every day! The maids decorated the room with fresh flowers and incredible towel creations, for example we discovered two large towel swans one day when we returned to the room after a relaxing day at the beach!
The beach is gorgeous and has a security guard at either end so you just relax without the threat of beach sellers hassling you. The beach is raked every day by a dedicated member of staff to help maintain it's pristine appearance. The sea is a lot calmer at Zoetry than it is further down the coast of Punta Cana and we were pleasantly suprised at the lack of rocks and seaweed. You don't even have to move from your sun lounger as a waitress is constantly on hand to get drinks and food at your request!
The food in the hotel is of a very good standard and we were never disappointed. The only thing I would say is that, whilst the staff all speak reasonable English, there is sometimes a bit of a language barrier which can make ordering a little difficult. We found ourselves having to repeat ourselves quite a bit and resorted to just pointing at the menu to make things easier. So it would come in handy if you were to pick up a bit of Spanish before you go.
The hotel has a small but adequate gym if you are planning to keep fit while you are there. It also has an nice spa and we enjoyed are complimentarty massages shortly after we arrived.
The hotel is about an hours drive from Punta Cana airport, the hotel give complimentary transfers to and from the airport which saves you around 70usd each way in taxi fares. We were allowed to keep our room until 5pm when we headed to the airport to catch our flight which meant that we had an extra days worth of sunbathing to enjoy.
The resort was very quiet when we were there, there weren't many rooms occupied, I hope that some of the bad reviews on here aren't putting people off visiting Zoetry because since it's reopening at the beginning of November you can see that they have really worked hard to deliver all that they promise on their website and more!
After hearing some bad reports about the Dominican Republic, I would honestly say that this is one of the nicest hotels that we have stayed at in the Caribbean and we certainly hope to return in the future! You won't be disappointed.
