I stayed at the LTI Punta Cana from Dec7th-12th was so so! The first day I got there, we were suppose to have a room with two double beds, and we got one king bed! Our room was big, and quite clean. I liked the bathroom very nice, but very small! I found it hard to get a hold of the front desk in the evening. I tried calling many times but it just kept on ringing! The drinks were great! Very strong! But no International were inc in the all inclusive option. The food was ok. I had the grill one night which was very good! The Pizza was ok, nothing like on a cruise. The entertainment was un-professional, alot of people walked out in the middle of shows. I found lots of aunts in my room and a rat by the pool! The pool was open late till 10pm which I liked, but no hot tub. The beach was excellent, soft white sand, crystal clear water, lots of beach beds to choose from. Great little shops about a 2 min walk from the hotel along the beach. Greta deals to be found, but ever thing i bought broke! The disco was quiet. Overall I had a pretty good time, but maybe next time I will try something a little better like the Occidental Flemenco, or the Secrets!

LTI Resort at Punta Cana, Dominican Republic is a nice hotel/resort in terms of accommodations, but I would never return to this, or any Punta Cana resort, nor would I recommend it to anyone. There is plenty of decent food to eat for any diet from carnivore to vegan and everything in between at the four restaurants. (But the selection gets real boring during a week-long stay.) The seafood restaurant is O.K. if you order something on the menu that requires additional payment. The stuff that's included in the all inclusive package on the menu sucked. The Italian restaurant really sucked. Although it advertised pasta and pizza, the only thing on the entire menu were different varieties of pizza, all of which were awful. (I've eaten better frozen pizzas.) The water is only Caribbean tourquoise out to the line of bouys, about 30 or 40 yards off the beach, which you are prohibited from crossing. I never was able to find out from anyone why no one was to ever cross that line, but I've since been advised that it is probably because the water is shark infested. Apparently for that reason, in an entire week, you never saw a single person snorkling or scuba diving out around the reef, probably a couple thousand yards out from the beach. If you look on the map, this eastern end of the Dominican Republic is where the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean meet, so the water is very disapointing if you've ever been somewhere like Cozumel. The water turns a deep azure green aboout 30-40 yards off the beach. Likewise at the two adjacent resorts on either side of LTI. About 60% of the vacationers are German, (LTI is a German hotel chain), 25% French, and the remianing 15% a mixture of mostly Americans and Canadians. Some staff are fluent in all four languages; German. French, Spanish, and English. The staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful, if you can locate someone who understands the language that you speak. Many of the staff are only fluent in the three languages other than Spanish at the bare survival level necessary in order to successfully do their jobs.
There are 39 different resorts on the 27 mile Bavaro Beach. There was no real entertainment, nowhere to go, and nothing to see but the beach.
The only things near are the adjacent resorts. (I noticed that one resort on the way to LTI had a casino, which would have been nice.) The national beer, Presidente, is the only beer available. It's a nice, light Pilsner, and quite drinkable from 10 a.m. -2 a.m. daily. Many fruity rum drinks are also in your all-inclusive package. A very limited variety of sold-in-America Brand name liquors are available at an additional charge. There are some gorgeous topless young French women on the beach every day, which was one of the highlights of the entire trip. In summation, the vacation value for the price is quite good, and maybe unmatchable. But if I had it to do over again, I would spend more money and go somewhere much better than this in the Caribbean.

We stayed at the LTi resort in Punta Cana from 5-12 Dec 2003, Overall we had a great time. The food was good but the drinks were challenging, very sweet. The Presidente beer i was OK. Facilities and service are very nice. We asked several staff people about tipping and they stated normally it's included in the package but it's always nice to reward extra efficient service so we tipped an extra couple of dollars (1-3) and that usually resulted in more attentive service. The big issue we had was with the FRENCH and GERMANS, they were very RUDE and intrusive.
We never really tried to find out why, but it reflects badly on the resort. We asked other visitors from US and Canada and they had experienced the same treatment. Here is some advice from a world traveler: CHILL OUT and ENJOY! keep your rudeness for when you are at home, it's already expected. We took the Fun Buggy and ATV rides...WHAT A BLAST!...Horeseback riding can be found on the beach, just go a bit beyond the quasi shopping mall and you will see the stables. It's about 1+ hours on the beach and very enjoyable, recommend the 5-7 PM trip.

The Good: It was (relatively) inexpensive compared to other all-inclusive resorts in the area. Presidente beer is exceptional by any standard. The beach was lovely and well maintained. Met some terrific people from Toronto and other parts of the world.

The Marginal: The food was plentiful, but not good - even by all-inclusive standards. Clientele is primarily German (manners are clearly optional in Germany.) The staff was friendly, but not overly so, often posturing for tips. Rooms are Spartan, but clean. Little activity outside of the resort; a market with the most aggressive vendors on the planet. Only about 1/2 the staff spoke English.

The Bad: The kids club (including the alleged "mini-disco") was understaffed and unenthusiastic. Beach activities are limited, and boat rentals and tours are inexplicably expensive. Unlike other nearby resorts there is no beer provided in the rooms. And worse, none of the bars serve Mojitos.

The Verdict: Tough call. For the price, the LTI was OK, although I would not choose to go back. I have stayed at/seen other Resorts in Punta Cana and all are superior to LTI. Personally, I would pay more to stay at the Iberostar or again at the RIU Bambu.

Relaxing vacation

My wife and I just returned from the LTI Resort on Dec. 14 2003. We found the resort very nice. The room was good and very well kept.
Housekeeping was great. The food was good and certainly plenty of it.
There was something for everyone. The pool and beach were great and the staff could not have been better. Especially the people running the daily activities. The nightly shows were not so great and the disco did not open until 11pm. Much too late for us senior citizens. It is a great place to relax. We are planning to return next year.

Nice resort, nice price

My wife and I stayed at the LTI Beach Resort 12/05/2003 through 12/11/2003. We arrived just in time for tropical storm Odett, the first storm in the month of December in 54 years I'm told. The weather was lousy for four days but days five and six were almost perfect. The beach is excellent with fine white sand. The water is warm with beautiful turquois water. There were lots of people on the beach but yet it was not overly crowded. The resort is fairly new and is nicely landscaped. The rooms are big and quiet and were spotless. There are plenty of bars scattered around the resort so you never have to go far for a drink. The food ranged from average to excellent. There are buffets and reservation only resaurants to choose from. Entertainment is provided at night and is a bit cheasy but amusing and keeps you busy for a couple of hours. Some of the staff is very friendly while others are just there to do their job. They are just finishing a new building on the property that looks like it will add another 150 rooms or so.
Hopefully they will add the appropriate resaurant facilities and beach furniture so the existing facilities are not overrun. The whole Punta Cana area will be very big in a few years as they are in the process of building other resorts and LTI was full when we were there. We would definately recommend this resort to others and plan on returning later if the price is right.

Very relaxing time

This was our first trip to the Dominican Republic and we stayed at the LTI resort. We spent 5 nights during this trip. Good variety of food, hamburgers and hotdogs available most of the time, but also international and Italian cuisine. We had pizza one night but have had better. The room was clean, but the bathroom door was clear glass, not much for privacy. It was just the wife and I so not a problem but still . The pool was very nice and well maintained, and the beach is the best part. White sand and blue green water, that goes on for miles in either direction. There were a LOT of German and French couples there and the staff spoke Spanish, we had a bit of trouble with the language barrier but got through okay. The service was good and they had a good variety of drinks, small tips go a long way to have the server watch out for you.There were local vendors on the beech and good deals can be had but you have to bargain. Fifty percent discounts or more are easily obtained. We bought a hand carved wooden box that started at $90 and ended up at $20. We would stay at the LTI again, it has a good rate. There is a new building being built they call the VIP building. They were hawking time-shares but we skipped that part. Good entertainment nightly, the only drawback was a tropical storm but that was hardly their fault.

my wife and I stayed at this hotel 12-19th november and had an excellent holiday--only one day of poor weather.the food was ok in the buffet but for a treat try the sea food pan in the a la carte--lobster prawn mussels etc.the rooms were quite large and clean(you can keep the air conditioning on when not in the room by inserting an old phone card).the staff were very friendly and helpful and the beach and pools were clean

My boyfriend and I went to Punta Cana last year (Dec. 14, 2002.) I was kind of leary about the hotel because it wasn't very expensive. But much to my surprise, it was awesome. The activity team there is so great, they try to get everyone involved. They teach you dancing, spanish, how to scuba dive, and many other things. The food there was also great, I love to try new things. The shows at night were very entertaining. The beach is also very very beautiful. It is a very good location because there are markets on the beach for shopping and there is also a marketplace close by which is about a five dollar taxi ride.
The rooms in the hotel are very nice and clean. Our air conditioning was leaking and we called the front desk and they were there right away to fix it. There really isn't a whole lot to do but it is very relaxing. You can go on all kinds of excursions. We went on the Bavaro Runners for about $55. We got to tour all around Punta Cana and see a typical house, school, ranch, and also a cigar museum. It was very interesting and fun. The artwork there is the most beautiful and you can get a 4foot by 4foot painting for only like $30. All in all I would have to say this is the best trip I have ever been on, and I will definitely go back to LTI!!!!

My wife and I traveled the first time to Dom. Rep. and spend 5 days at the LTI-beach resort. The food was good varity of international cusine, the room was clean the pool and beach was clean. We meet a lot of europian people from deferent countries. The service was good and the people was friendly. We play Tennis, vollybal, pingpong, water polo, and beach soccer. This is the place to just relaxe. We plan to go back next year the same place.

Top Local Tips for Punta Cana

Water and Sun Dont drink the faucet water, dont even brush your teeth with it.... Make sure you bring your own bug spray, sunblock, and aloe lotion from home and plenty of it because they sell theirs for wayyy too money. Dont forget to use sunblock no matter how good you think you tan. The sun is FIERCE!!!

Tip Tip Tip We always bring $100.00 US in $1's. Tipping everyone a buck goes a long way in Caribbean destinations. The staff appreciates it and you will get treated like a king.

Hotel grounds Take lots of photos, every bush and tree seems to bloom at this time of year- January. Seen lots of geckos crossing our path and also seen some type of sand lizard on the beach. Noticed little one inch holes in sand on beach in the morning and was lucky enough to see a bright greeny thing disappear down one.
