Historical Traveller Reviews of Riu Taino Hotel

from SXM03
After reading some of the reviews on this site, I was nervous for my 7 day trip to Riu Taino. I have to say, I don't know what they were talking about! We had a wonderful time!I am a very picky eater, and I thought the food was great. In fact, because I am so picky and I read that the food was so bad, I packed a ton of food and ended up bringing most everything home. Every meal has a buffet of every type of food imaginable. Every day for lunch and dinner there are french fries, rice, fresh fruit, pasta, and ice cream, among many other varied meats, vegetables, and desserts. There were theme nights where the menu and decorations followed the theme. I was also very worried about the water. There were three of us on the trip and none of us got sick. However we were very careful. You cannot drink the water, and some people say you can use it to brush your teeth, but don't! There is no need to risk it, there is a jug of purified water in your room, and I did hear one man say that he had diarrhea and he brushed his teeth in the water. The staff serves only bottled water at meals, and uses purified water to wash and cook all of the foods, as well as to make ice cubes. As long as you are careful, you'll be fine. The rooms were so clean! They change the sheets and wash the floor every day. The rooms have a fridge if you care to bring anything. There is always coke, diet coke, club soda, and alcohol in them. The rooms do not have a clock, so bring one! Also, bring a washcloth, they do not have them. The TV does have a porn channel, if you are bringing little kids you might want to be aware, rather than have them find it!Other random info: You get a towel card which you keep the whole time and exchange for a beach towel when you need it, we would get up, get a towel, put it on a chair by the pool, or on the beach, and then go eat breakfast. The area gets full (or at least the good areas with shade and sun) pretty quickly. We walked around to some of the other resorts, and in my opinion Taino wmuch older crowd and seemed too quiet. The staff was great. They had so much energy and were there to show you a great time. Tip: don't drink too much alcohol or caffeine during the day (without balancing it out with water) because that dehydrates you and gives you the same symptoms as if you drink the water. When we arrived, we had two rooms, and they were far away from each other, we asked to be moved closer and it was no problem. You may want to learn or write down some basic Spanish words though, the language barrier is tough. We went with Apple Tours; they were great, and extremely helpful. Overall, we had a wonderful relaxing time!!

Be there in April 18th 2003

The food is very good. The rooms clean. The sea has cristal water. You can snorkel just in front of the beach. Windsurfing, sailing, is free and nice. Even the rain is good. The music is a perfect frame. But most of all the people of Punta Cana are really nice. Look forward to be back.

Dear Travelers, We just returned from Riu Taino on March 17, 2003 after a 8 day trip. I just have to say that I found the Riu Resort to be excellent. It was nice to see people with children enjoying the resort (I will take my kids next year). Traveling with me was my husband ,Mother, Father and sister we are all 35 and up and there was something for all to enjoy.T he room were very nice, very clean, great A/C and we had a beautiful view (rm 272) The pool was great at the Taino there was alot going on. if we wanted a nice quiet afternoon we would head to the Naboa pool ...more for reading and relaxing. Breakfast was to die for ...try the crossant french toast soooo good. Lunch was anywhere you wanted to go within the resort, they all had great things to choose from wether it was outside for causual burgers, hotdogs, or pizza and French Fries (or as we call them Freedom Fries) or inside for more detailed lunch items. Don't get me wrong...the food is different there is not alot of spices in it and the beef does taste different but it is good. We did not make any reservations for the specialty resturants for dinner we found out last year that you had more of a selection at the buffet.( Last year we went to Fiesta Bravaro ) Riu Taino was much nicer! As for the beaches ......JUST PARADISE relaxing in the sun or under the shade of the palm trees there is something for everyone. Snorkeling right from the Riu Taino beach was nice... you can get the equiptment free from any of the dive centers on the beach...the reef is not as nice as say...Caymen... but still beautiful fish to be seen.As for the night life I can't comment because I fell asleep around 11:oo everynight ..but I heard the Disco was a great time, but it opens at midnight and I just kept falling asleep before I could get there. All in All I would recommend this resort to all ages. I can't believe anyone could have a bad time. I can't wait till I return.

Loved it.

Riu Taino is honestly paradise. And what makes it so good besides the food, drinks, beach, water and weather is the PEOPLE!! The staff is so fun and friendly. Particularly Willy at the La Bamba, he's so nice! and the Animation crew is amazing: Francis, Tico, Raphael and Juan....I miss them already!! THANKS GUYS!

What a vacation!!!!

WOW!! Que treméndo! This vacation was one of if not THE best vacation I've had overseas! (I have traveled to 15 different countries!) Yhe people are so warm and friendly and overly helpful in all situations I encountered. This hotel was very comfortable and included everything needed to be an excellent vacation choice! The Calle Caribeña was right next door and included a variety of delightful shopping choices and even an internet cafe and medical office. The ocean was right in front of the main reception area and the many 4 sectioned cabanas were such a delight to live in for the entire length of our vacation. Entertainment was first class as was the dining and the bartender services. I definately will return! Viva el Riu Taino!!

ll keep going back!!

We ventured into the Dominican Republic in August of 2002 - and were we in for a surprise! We (3 of us) stepped off the plane into beautiful weather ..it must have been around 29 degrees. When we approached the airport to go through customs, we were seranaded by maraichis and one of them actually played the wedding march to propose to one of the girls that was with us. Retrieving the luggage was a bit nerve wrecking as there were no signs directing you to where to go. However, we made it through. Once on the tour bus, levels of excitement increased. Everybody's eyes were glued to the windows as we took in the sites/scenery. Everybody was really impressed by the Burger King!! Once off the bus, we were greeted by hotel staff and served tropical drinks. check in was a long process, but worth the wait. The hotel room was really nice, extremely clean and equipped with a fuly stocked bar (sweet), and a safe. The hotel grounds was even nicer, again very clean with beautifull landscaping The highlight..was the staff.. the staff was incredible..the Dominican people are the most beautiful people you will meet, they are kind, courtious and extremely helpful. Key people to look for: Tico: Francis(Kool Aide): Gerimias: Cedano; Juan; Francisca, Felix, Maria,Esquebel, Frank(towel boy) ..and many many more. The food was terrific, lots of variety..and the dining entertainment was even better. As stated above, the Dominican people are beautiful, they have a flair in their step, they are always singing, smiling and doing their best to accomodate you.The beaches were fabulous, beautiful white sands, and the water was a crystal blueThe nightlife was even better - they are not that up to date with the music, but who needs up to date music when you have great people surrounding you. (As a female) you were never left unattended, you always had a dancing partner. It was fabulous. If you didn't know how to merenge or do the Bachata ..you certainly would have by the time you left!!The tours - we only did 2 tours while we were thereI highly recommend the Kontiki- (it's basically a party boat - with two level - snacks and all you can drink!!) Oh, I forgot theres snorkeling too ..The other tour was the Bavara Runners ..Hated it!!A long day in the sun, in a jeep..a very bumpy ridewith a crapy tour guide.. not to mention EXPENSIVE AS ****..Well if this doesn't catch your attention..I don't know what will!Just a follow up to this review - we left August 29th 2002 and we were back again in October 2002 ..and we will be returning again in April 2003.\\ That should tell you all something..'WE LOVE LA REPUBLICA DOMINICANA" (and all the beautiful men!!)The "CANADIAN GIRLS"

great place but...bad surprises on the way back

My husband and i have just come back from Taino where we were from the 15 till 25 january 2003. We keep a good souvenir and in same time are a little disappointed.

The beach was really beautiful but absolutly CROWDED! You have to get to the pool or the beach quite early in the morning to be able to choose a good place and not to be stuck with a broken lounge chair... but all in all, it still looks beautiful.

The room was very clean every day. We had asked for a water-front room with a biiiig bed but ended up in a room by the noisy caribb street with a smaaaall bed. But the vegetation around was so beautiful we didn't mind too much.

The food was ok... altough we got a bit bored of it after a few days. We were told NOT to drink tap water which we didn't. We are used to travel in Africa where we are very carefull. At Taino we were told we could eat without worrying... result of it, the day of our return back home, my husband had to rush me off to hospital where i was kept in emergency for bacterial infection of the guts and urinary infection. Am now under heavy antibiotics...

So all in all the place is great although there are VERY noisy people that go there and that obviously something is wrong with the food! But the sun is great...!

AMAZING- wanna go back

We have been to Riu Taino twice during the past 1,5 years and are returning in January 2003 for the third time. The resort is absolutely great for any kind of people. Food is delicious and we fail to understand the negative comments in past reviews. Maybe the lack of Budweiser and big hamburgers and steaks influence these reviews. For us it's one of the paradises in the world

Top Local Tips for Punta Cana

Check for departing flight delays Check the front desk the day of leaving to ensure your flight is not delayed. We waited for our scheduled bus for over an hour before we were informed it was 3 hours delayed. If you're leaving late in the day or evening, ask if you can keep your room until 4 oclock and they will accommodate.

Beach mercado When the vendors give you a price, cut it in half in your mind and start dealing even lower than that. When you think it's a reasonable price and they say no, start walking away and tell them to forget about it. They will negociate close to your price.

Punta Cana is lame... ...however, I'm more of an adventure traveler. There is nothing in Punta Cana aside from the resorts and terrible bumpy roads. I much prefer Puerto Rico.
