I have just got back from the Dominican Republic with my sister and I loved it.I'm already looking to book it for next year! The hotel was out of this world and so were the staff that worked there. The staff were so friendly and very helpful. The room was cleaned and the mini bar re-stocked. Every day the cleaner sprinkled flowers in the bathroom and arranged the sheets on the bed into different shapes she also folded all my clothes neatly was like being back at home! The entertainment team were brilliant and made my holiday 1 to remember. The nightly shows were mind blowing. Every one got involved and alot of thought and hard work went into them. The entertainment team worked from 8am till 12.30+ everyday and they never seemed to get tired or aggravated. They just got on and entertained us. I made so many friends in this hotel that I really didn't want to leave. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a nice, relaxing, friendly holiday with good entertainment!

The weather was great, beaches perfect, food was ok. Some staff were ok . If you have a problem, you will have one for the duration of your stay. Take plenty of tip money, get second class service if you don't tip regularly. The one good point of the holiday was leaving!

I went with a friend for her birthday & had a blast! Being all inclusive including alcohol was a great feature. The room was spacious, nice and quite. The flower petals around the sink put a smile on my face. They provide you will bottled soda & water on a daily basis in your room. It was very easy to book a reservation nightly for the various restaurants on the compound. I do wish they had wash cloths, an iron & a better souvenir shop. The ladies that work in the souvenir shop did act a bit rude (I guess I would too if I was stuck in a shop all day & didn't speak the language of the customers). The food was much better than I expected and always available in a fresh manner. The nightly shows blew me away, but I don't think I would want my child to see them (if I had any kids). I would suggest having a few more people at the resort being better trained on English. However, everyone was beyond nice (outside of the souvenir shop employees) and would ask their English speaking peers to help us when they could not. Overall, I would definitely return no questions asked.

All in all, Me and my fiancé had a great time in the Dominican. The people are nice, the beaches are beautiful, and there are many beautiful places and hotels in the Dominican Except for this hotel. The Grand Paradise Bavaro is run by very rude and untrained locals that just cant run a hotel. The hotel has many amenities listed but all of them were difficult to obtain and very disappointing. Everything you do in this place is difficult from, broken key cards, no TV, Tub doesn't work, Leaks in ceiling, No pool towels, Hot tub never on but when it is its never hot, (LOL) and im sure theres more I cant remember right now. Not to mention the horrible untrained staff that are just RUDE and Careless about Everything.
My fiancé got hit on 3 times by the staff. These people are out of control and do not deserve any more customers in this hotel. My advise to people searching for hotels in the Dominican is to stay away from this hotel and all the other ones that are affiliated with it (I think there are 6 or 7 all owned by the same company)
Try the Hotel Majestic (next door from Grand Paradise) that place is nice, We purchased day passes there and spent a lot of time in that hotel. Very nice place!
I hope I helped.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Grand Paradise Bavaro Hotel

Time of our lives!

from A TripAdvisor Member
It was the best week of our lives. The food was great with plenty of selection, the staff was overall friendly and helpful. Although some spoke limited english and we spoke very little spanish, we managed to get by very well. The grounds were always kept clean with security guards patrolling 24 hours a day. The beach was beautiful and stretched for miles. We just returned yesterday and are already planning our trip back next year!

Best Trip Ever!

I just returned from a week at the Grand Paradise. It was the best trip I've ever had! The beach was absolutely gorgeous! We were part of a group of a dozen and all of us were very impressed with the resort. The staff was excellent, especially the animation staff! Even the food was great! I'm normally a very picky eater, but I had no problem finding food I enjoyed. The resort was clean and quiant and there was plenty of activities to participate in...from beach volleyball, to water aerobics, to ping pong, to Bocci ball.....There was never a dull moment! I would go back in a heartbeat!

Grand Holiday...just minor problems.

My wife and I just got back from Grand Paradise Bavaro. We had a great time! The resort is very nice and the food was pretty good as well. Most of the people were very nice throughout the resort except the staff at the front lobby. I'm glad that I basically had to deal with them the last day, otherwise my review would be a lot worse. I've been travelling to different places where I find some people rude and ignorant, but I must admit that these people top them all. There's a certain woman (Rosa Pimentel)... let me tell you , she's quite a number , to say the least. I think she loved giving an attitude to the guests. But over all it was a good place, the beach is great, the weather was equally great. I don't think I would go back because I don't like going back to the same place, but we had a great time!

Buyer Beware: Crappy Service

from Kristina
The resort was beautiful and clean, but there were serious service issues. Problems we consistantly encountered during our weeklong vacation:1. The resort is huge, but for some reason they only have 2 front desk clerks working. They could of used another 2 bodies. We waited 1 hour in line just to check in, and anytime you needed something, you had to wait just as long. I can understand why they were rude, but it still stinks to have no choice to talk to a unhappy employee on your vacation. Note to hotel: Please get those divider things that keep people in line instead of all crowding up at the desk. That would at least give the place a sence of organization and keep those line hoppers to a minimum.2. The hot tube is COLD!!!! Colder than the pool. I am not kidding. I asked the maintance men a few times if they could turn up the heat, but they just said "No" and walked away. 3. Most of the time there was only 1 bartender working at the two outside bars during the peak times. There would usually be another 2 employee behind the bar socializing and totally ignoring the huge line of people. Note: Tipping does NOT improve service. 4. The staff in the main dining area and beach grill were not attentive. Their job is to get you drinks, but they were always in back socializing among themselves. And they were also suppose to bus the tables and re-set the tables. Look out, because I noticed that if the used silverware, napkins, glassware doesn't look to dirty, they re-use it!!!! Again, tipping does NOT improve your service.5. Our housekeeper was Excellent, however, we found it fustrating and strange that she literally only knocked on our door only one time, before letting herself in. And she did this 4 of the 7 days we were there. And always at 7:30 am. She walked in as I was changing 2 times. Beware: There are no "Do not disturb signs" or a privacy lock. 6. The people who sell tours at the desk in the front lobby were always on personal calls on their cell phones., smoking and/or talking among themselves. They seemed mad to have to be there. Good luck getting help should you have it. 7. The hotel check out time is 1:00 pm. They attach a note to your bill saying that they will provide a room for you to shower and change if you aren't leaving till later and want to swim etc. We asked for a room and were given a room key. Can you imagine how surprised we were when we went to that room, inserted the key, opened the door and found that the housekeeper was cleaning it. They gave us someone else's dirty room to shower and change in. Yuck! The housekeeper, not surprisingly was totally annoyed with this interuption. She insisted on staying in the room with us and even propping the door open, as my husband and I took showers. What was up with that?

We loved it !

We just returned from a 1 week vacation at the "Grand Paradise" PuntaCana. We arrived there on February 1st, 2003.The check in was fast and the luggage was delivered quickly to our roomon the 2nd floor in building #1. The room was large and bright with a nice size balcony. The fridge was stocked with soft drinks and bottled water. The bathroom was also fairly big. Everything was very clean, and there were no insects tobe seen all week long. The air conditioner was running quiet, which is important for a good night sleep. The food in the "La Laguana" Buffet Restaurant was excellent, a large variety to choose from, never boring. We also ate at all three a la carte restaurants. The food was good, but it seemed they wanted you out of there as soon as possible. They did not give you enough time between courses to relax and enjoy your drink. You hardly finished the main course and the desert tray was on the way. We constantly had to remind the waiter to come back a little later. The pool and the pool area were beautiful and kept clean all the time. The washrooms, no matter which ones we used, were always clean. There were a variety of activities during the day to keep anyone busy. We never felt pressured to participate in any activities, which we found very nice. The beach was also beautiful. The first few days the waves were too big for us to go in, but then the ocean calmed down and we loved it. The drinks at the bars were good, although they were inconsistent from bartender to bartender. A drink would be made with orange juice and another bartender would use pineapple juice for the same drink, but after a few of those, they all tasted just about the same. We have been to Cuba and Mexico a few times before but the "GrandParadise" was the best so far. The size of the resortis perfect. Everything is close by. We really loved it. Our motto always was, never go to the same resort twice, but the Grand Paradise changed our mind. We will be there again next winter if we can book a room on the upper floor.

looks can be deceiving

Flying into Punta Cana it seemed as though it was the perfect choice for a wonderful vacation. Our expectations were only confirmed upon arrival at our pristinely landscaped resort. And as we exited the bus, gathered our bags and entered the open-air lobby, REALITY SETS IN. We were greeted by other guests in very heated arguments with front desk staff, which by the spoke little or no english. Confusion was abundant as there were no indication from staff members as to the check-in procedures. After waiting in the lobby (quite charming by the way) for what was at least 1.5hrs. We were informed by the desk staff that our rooms where not ready and that we would have to wait until after 5pm. It was at this time 1:30. We were expected to leave all of our luggage sitting in the middle of the Lobby floor and go entertain ourselves. Fully Dressed. So we determined to overlook this as all vacations have atleast one little mishap. When our rooms were finally ready we had to carry our on luggage to our rooms up 3 flights of stairs only to find that our rooms where not what we had paid for. We had a gorgeous view of an armed soldier, a chainlink fence at a goat farm. No really it was a goat farm. We paid for oceanview adjoining rooms with a king bed and one with 2 fullsize. Didn't happen. We found out the next day that our rooms had been given away due to overbooking. So after spending most of the daylight time arguing for the rooms we paid for and moving our own luggage. We got our rooms. Except one of our rooms was still occupied by another guest. So yes they do program other guests cards to open your room door on accident occasionally so keep valuables hidden in the safe. The people were rude, always served european or spanish speaking guests before english guests, the food was not wonderful. Don't go to the chinese restaurant. Over all if you can't afford a nicer resort, go to DisneyWorld. The beach and snorkeling were nice. That's all. If there are any questions feel free to e-mail me.

Had and absolutely wonderful time! What more is there to say.

Quaint little place

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at the Grand Paradise Baravo and it was a nice place. The room was suppose to be a king bed and we got two single beds. There were a few ants in the bathroom and we had to wait too long for bath towels. The floor felt sandy. The food was good at the buffet, get there early. The Italian restraurant was terrific. The lobster dinner was awful and the steak night was good. Definitely go on the Monster Jeep excursion. Bring little baggies of pensils, Wrapped candy, tooth brushes and tooth paste, markers etc. to hand out to the children. You could never bring enough for all the children you will see, so keep the bags small. It was alot of fun even though we had rain. Parasailing was great and I saw two sightings of whales. Bring sunscreen or you'll fry. Enjoy!!

The Worst!!

We just returned today from our stay at this hotel and I could not wait to write a review on this terrible property in the hope of warning other unsuspecting customers. We have been to many places in the Carribean ,i.e. Anguilla, Bermuda, Nassau, Barbados, Caymans and Jamaica (got married there) and the Dominican Republic in general and this hotel in particular is by far the worst we have ever experienced. The staff, particularly the Front Desk personal, are rude and uncooperative (especially if you are english-speaking) and the food is TERRIBLE!! How can you possibly lose weight at an all-inclusive resort? If anyone suggests that you visit this resort, assume they are on drugs and go somewhre else!

I would fly back in a heartbeat. I loved it! I relaxed immediately and it just got better from there. The people couldn't do enough. The food was amazing with choices to please everyone. Beautiful beyond compare. I can see why they call this Grand Paradise.

Top Local Tips for Punta Cana

Water Use the jug of water provided to brush your teeth. Some of our group got the trots (we had been eating the same food and drinking the same drinks). We finally came to the conclusion that those of us who used the jug of water to brush our teeth had not been sick.

Don't be rude Being polite goes a long way. I witnessed so many people being rude and ignorant towards the staff at the hotel. No one has to put up with your sh*t, you are here to relax and enjoy, stop looking for negative things, and make the best of your vacation.
