WOW...Casa de Campo is pimp...let me tell you. There is soo much stuff to do there, from the pool, to the beach, and to awsome golf! Also, you can always just ride around in your sweet golf cart (try and get cart number 377 because it is fast as hell!) I also recommend that after dinner at night that you hit up the 'la cana bar' in the hotel or 'Papa Jack's' at Altos de Chavon. In conclusion, Casa de Campo is a great place, and anybody who says otherwise deserves a sign on their back that says "I'm Stupid."

Incredible golf, excellent tennis, marginal diving

We rented a villa, two bedrooms for the four of us. It came equipped with a maid who prepared breakfast each morning then cleaned the place up the rest of the day. The villa was a little shopworn, but not bad, maybe three star. Came with a four person golf cart which was an absolute necessity. Played Dye four and the Links courses. Three rounds per person were included in the price. Dye four is beautiful and intimidating (maybe humiliating is a better term), Links is good for a couple of rounds. Everyone at the tennis club was super, lots of competition, lessons, clinics, etc. Scuba diving was very expensive and not very good- long, long boat ride and not much at the end. Lots of places with better diving. Restaurants were generally good, a bit pricey, with good service. Forget the delivered groceries; you can go to the store your self, save 75% and have the fun of buying the stuff.
All in all, a fun trip, and a good chance to brush up one's Spanish.
Would we do it again? Probably.

Well I just read all of the 'less than happy' posts to this resort. I will agree with the person that said service was slow, (But do you expect fast service at an upscale restaraunt like Mortons or Capital Grille? no. ) Dinner should take a while, and it does. The beach did leave a little to be desired, they have built a structure to keep all the sea creatures away from the beach. Had no problem with room service. had no problem with the bill a the end of the stay.We stayed in a room (not a villa) it was nice. Though I do absolutely recommend reserving a golf cart. (Even if you don't play golf) what is a 2 minute cart ride to breakfast is a 15 minute walk otherwise. Spa was great.
Couples massage for 60 minutes was only $100 for both. Cheap!Food was good, but breakfast was exactly the same each day. The Buffet lunch was exactly the same each day. I have stayed at Couples Resorts, Sandals, and Superclubs. Dinner here was much better than any of those. One difference is that they give you a 'room card' and you 'charge' all your meals to your room. I can see how one might get 'billed' even though something should have been all inclusive. The resort did a good job at telling us which restaraunts were included in the plan and which one weren't. Also some items on the menu aren't really included. our plan included Soup, Salad OR appetizer + main course + dessert + alcohol. IF you ordered a soup and a salad, you will get billed for one those. (or a soup and an appetizer, or two entrees, or two desserts, etc)

I just got back from my honeymoon in the Dominican Republic. We first stayed in Santo Domingo and then headed to Casa de Campo in La Romana.
We made our reservation directly to the hotel and we stayed in an Excel Villa. The villa was beautiful, we had a jacuzzi AND a pool. We also had a private jacuzzi in a very private patio located just outside of the master bedroom's bathroom. We had a maid and a buttler asigned to our villa and they worked just for us for 8 hours a day...EVERYDAY.
They prepared us homemade breakfast and I asure you in one of the best touches this resort has. We did not have to do anything in our villa because or maid and buttler where there just for us preparing coctails and snacks. On the second day we met Linda, the Housekeeping Manager.
She, along with her staff, prepared a suprise for us one evening....They covered our bedroom with flowers and candles !!. I want to congratulate the housekeeping staff because they're very well trained and made us feel very important. Special thanks to Linda. She took very good care of us and made our Honeymoon so special that we will never forget it. This is the best honeymoon one could ever get!.
We will return everyday to celebrate our anniversary. We highly recomend this hotel to everyone.....specially if you like this kind of surprises we just got.

My husband and I just returned froma trip to the DR for the first time.
The Casa de Campo was highly recommended and it did not fail us.
Everything about it was wonderful!! I read all the reviews and found some complaints could be valid but please stop complaining about the language barrier, you are not in the US anymore. The whole point of going out of he country is to enjoy a new culture...RELAX!
Sincerely...English-speaking traveler.

Visited Casa De Campo with a group of about 100 from Raleigh, NC. The resort (7,000 acres) is beautiful. Very few employees speak adequate English. Teeth of the Dog is worth every penny of greens fee. 7 holes on the ocean. Very playable from the 2nd set of tees, about 6,700 yds.

Strongly suggest reserving a golf cart for transportation. When you visit the beach or the pool they will park your cart and give you a slip with the cart #. Expect carts to be switched occasionally. The attendants have trouble transposing the cart numbers (324 for 342, etc.)

The beach is beautiful but don't go in the water. Shallow, covered with rocks, coral, and sea urchins

We left our cash and jewelery in the safe in the room. Someone entered the room and stole about half of the cash and 1/3 of the jewelery. They were smart in that they left enough behind so that we did not notice until we got home and unpacked. Although we lost the most, several others in our group reported items missing. Don't expect any help from the hotel. We have made numerous telephone calls and e-mails to the hotel, guest relations, and security. They have not made any effort at responding. We are out about $4,000.

If you are brave enough to go, don't take any jewelery. They have ATM's on site for cash.

Restaurants: good food, slow service.

Pool bar: great; ask for either the Casa De Campo (drink) or Teeth of the Dog.

Lunch: Minitas beach overlooking the ocean.

Would we go again? NO

We just got back from casa de campo in the dominican. All i can say is if you are looking for a relaxing vacation then this is the place. There isnt alot to do but golf, drink, eat and lay around the pool or beautiful beach. The golf is amazing!! The "teeth" is great and so is the links course. The new "dye four" course just opened when we were there. It is truly the most awesome course i have ever played. Yes it is even nicer than the "teeth". The views over the chavron river are amazing. The rooms were clean and very nice. The food is outstanding i had beef tenderloin or lobster every night. Definately 4 star quality food. The bars offer premium brand liquors. I highly recommend trying some of the local dark rum. (they have 8 or so to try) Drink it "neat" if you like cognac or single malt scotch you'll love it. Oh yeah the local "presidente" beer is also very good.If you just want to sit back and relax to relieve the stress of regular life this is the place to go. I have read some bad reviews about billing and so forth. The all inclusive can be a bit confusing at first but if you read the info they give you it is fine. We were not charged for anything we shouldnt have been. We had no problem getting reservations in resturants, or getting tee times i played when i wanted the starter was very accomodating. The only thing that i can say slightly negative about it is they dont speak much english. But after a day or two we figured out who spoke it well and we were fine.

I had the best time in my life. I'm defenetly going back to Casa de Campo. The food it's great. You have so much to do that you don't dnow what to do next day.

Casa De Campo, was a trip in paradise. The food was great, service was great, everything was excellent! Our family has traveled all over the world vacaioning and only a few rise to be as good as the lovely resorts at Casa De Campo. This is our fifth year there and every year it has seemed to get better and better. For the past two years we have stayed in the excell villas and let me tell you somthing, it is worth the money! When we first arrivet at the chech in, we were taken into the Excel club check in service and were immedately taken care of. The very next day our groceries we had ordered arrived, and we woke up to a fresh wonderfull feast of a breakfeast. They cooked anything you wanted for breakfeast, they also kept the Casa clean. The beach is wonderfull, has two bars where you can get basically any drink you can think of, volleyball, sailing, kyacking, banana boting, and lots other fun activities. I would also reccomend going into Altos De Chavon for dinner a few nights of your stay because it is absolutely wonderfull. The golf is amazing with two great courses. Tennis facilities are great. And because we got the excel villa we even had our own pool! From 1 to ten this is easilly an 11!!

Top Local Tips for La Romana

ground transportation there is no need to rent a car....fly into Santo Domingo and take Tropical Tanours...THe ride was about 1 hour and generally pleasant....not the hassle I was expecting

winter break stay away from VIP transportation from and to the Airport , they simply ignore you if you have a pre paid transport you still will be gettig a taxi and pay yourself ..... good luck arguing with the travel agency

Communicating. Many of the people...even in the mainstream of interaction with the public..do not speak English fluently enough to understand your questions. So...take along a basic Spanish/English dictionary. We had a flat tire once and finally had to take the butler outside and show it to him so that he would understand our question about who to call! Better yet, brush up on your Spanish before you go. They are thrilled when you try to communicate with them in Spanish. They are happy to help and serve you and letting them know that you are pleaed with their service is greatly appreciated by them.
