We really, really liked Sunset Waters. It's a good distance from Williamsted, and therefore there is no chaos or cheap tourist traps in the area. It is not a super-glitzy, mega-frills kind of place, but it is very comfortable. The price can't be beat. All the drinks and food and rentals are included - the food is local fare, not "haute cuisine" but good. Anyway, we paid about 60% of what we would have paid in town at the Avila.

The diving and snorkeling are awesome, and the dive shop is absolutely great - friendly, hard working, and thorough. I learned to scuba dive there, and they could not have been more accommodating. The beach is well-maintained, with shade zones, a bar, and a discretely hidden nude section.

The facilities are solid. There is a somewhat dingy miniature golf course, and the lighting in the dining area is a little weird, but there's air conditioning and everything works. The staff is responsive and friendly. Unlike much of the Caribbean, gay people are treated humanely throughout Curacao, and Sunset Waters was no exception. Nobody cared. The crowd is mixed - families with kids, scuba diving couples, young couples, a few gay couples as well. Everyone got along.

The resort is in a hilly area and there are lots of winding roads. You can easily get there with a regular car, but if you want to explore off-road a Jeep is nice to have if you can rent one. All kinds of wildlife, none of it aggressive or poisonous. Well, there was this one little lizard who actually kept begging for scraps by the dining terrace. Kinda cute.

If you don't care about frills and you want a great place that's a bargain and away from the noise, this is the spot for you.
