Spent a week at the Sunshine Suites and had a great time. Our deluxe suite was well appointed and always clean. The Sunshine Grill serves great food at a reasonable price (remember, this IS Cayman). The Grill can now boast it has won the Taste of Cayman award for the second year in a row. If you want to save a little cash and cook for yourself, the mini-kitchen in the suite has all the appliances and utensils you'll need. There is even a gas grill behind the bar that guest may use. Experienced my first of many "Painkillers" at the bar. Tessa (from Cananda) is the best bartender I have ever had. ALL of the staffmembers were very nice and genuinely hospitable. I would rate Sunshine Suites an "A+ Excellent" but can't because of the walk to the beach (but really no big deal). Worked out best to walk along West Bay Road to the Governor's house, then cut to the beach. Takes about 5 minutes. We'll be back!

Just came back from Grand Cayman on July 16, 2004 and booked at the Sunshine Suites based on other people's reviews from Trip Advisor. Check in was quick, complimentary breakfast saves you money considering what the rate of exchange is and what other places might charge. Even the hot breakfast available is great and at an extremely reasonable price. After a long day of sightseeing and snorkeling (Eden Rock and Rum Point - the best and free), we always ordered fruit punches and the grill's homemade chips with salsa. (Addictive!). Only problem encountered was the windows have no curtains just shutters that we had to wedge a piece of cardboard on the side to keep closed - they kept flipping open. The alarm next to our room kept going off at 6:45 every morning; told the staff to please check the alarms when people checked out. Storage space good. Daughter slept in sofa bed and said the hallway traffic was noisy. Air conditioner freezes whoever sleeps on the sofa bed, but doesn't quite reach the bedroom area in the back. Pool very clean. Resort very clean overall. Emanda at the Grill - great attitude and smile every morning. Took the complimentary chairs and towels with us every day in the car as we toured around the island and wherever we found a spot, we'd just jump right in the water. Skip 7 Mile Beach - seems like Clearwater Beach during spring break, and there are no fish to see. To get to it you have to walk through the alleyway where the Westin throws out their garbage - so hold your noses. All in all, great deal for the money and I found out after I got there that I could have rented a car from the front desk through Budget instead of having to deal with the nasty lady at Dollar at the airport. Watch the guy under the blue umbrella outside of the hotel near the front shopping center - he's trying to sell you a timeshare with the excuse of "you just won a week's stay". Would go back.

The resort is clean, convient to the best beaches (5 min walk), well-run, and has an excellent lunch and lite dinner grill. It is a better deal than staying at the Westin (300-400 US/night), and I will stay at the Sunshine Suites again. Take it from me, a real road warrior in business, this is the best bet on the island if you can stand a 5 min walk to the beach. Also- hats off to Lori and Kevin at the Sunshine Grill!

Just returned 4/6/04 and would definately stay there again. Rooms were clean and the mini kitchen is a plus. Cooked breakfast in the room each morning. The beach is across the street and in front of the Westin.
This is definately one of the nicest spots on seven mile. The beach chairs Sunshine Suites has for your use are okay....but we just slipped into a chaise lounge in front of the Westin and nobody bothered us. The Ritz Carlton is building next door but it is far enough away that you don't here any construction noise. The rum punch parties on Mondays are fun, but skip the BBQ...the food was not that great. Instead, go to Legends which is located in the plaza in front of the Sunshine Suites and order a pizza and a stingray dark!

We stayed at this hotel during Thanksgiving last year - family of 4 with 2 small children. Hotel property is very well kept. Rooms are clean and spacious. Cleaning service is ok, nothing fancy. We were pleased with the small kitchen as it gave us a lot of flexibility with the kids. I was pleasantly surprised with the restaurant, good food and great service. Only drawback of this hotel is that we need to cross an avenue to get to the beach. We found it really hard to do with our small children,a s tehre is a lot of traffic. The beach is BEAUTIFUL though, you won't regret. Based on the feedback from other readers we took a suitcase full of non-perishable food and that was a GREAT idea.
Food is VERY expensive there and restaurant prices are just outrageous.
I also recomend renting a car, taxi fares are very expensive and driving around the island is pretty easy. Overall we had a great time.
This is a truly beautiful island and worth the trip.

My wife and I decided to stay at Sunshine Suits based on other reviews posted here, and I'm very glad we did. This is a jewel. It's a rare find. If you're looking for superstar luxury, this ain't it. But if you're looking for a high-quality, very clean, very friendly and convenient hotel with a laidback, but surprisingly good restaurant, this is the place.

It was, admittedly, our first time in Grand Cayman with nothing else to compare it to, but I was quite pleased. Aside from being considerably cheaper than the hotels right on the beach, it's only a 3-4 minute walk, and it's centrally located on 7 Mile Beach.

There's a convenience store, liquor store, cigar shop, etc. very close, and a Captain Marvin's where you can book your tour to Stingray City.
Nice neighborhood, too. Condos in the new Ritz Carlton - right across the street - start at $1.9 million.

The staff is friendly and the rooms are clean. It was fun to shop in the local grocery stores and cook in the mini-kitchen that's included in these suites. (Okay, that's not for everybody, but sometimes you just don't feel like dressing for dinner!)

But when you do, there's an excellent 3-star restaurant right across the street on the beach. (Sorry, can't think of the name, but you'll know what I'm talking about.)

They're very liberal with beach towels, beach chairs, etc.

Another plus is the enormous car park (parking lot). It's definitely worthwhile to rent a car in Grand Cayman, unless ALL you want to do is sit on the beach and read. We used Andy's, and rented the Maruti 4x4.
Excellent for taking those sandy roads you're not sure about!

For the money, a very nice place to stay.

My daughters and I had the pleasure of staying at Sunshine Suites during Christmas week. The hotel is beautiful, small, clean and quiet.
It has a small pool and one small restaurant/bar. The food is very good at the Sunshine Grill. Breakfast is included if you make it to the grill by 9:00. The rooms have refrigerators, toasters and microwaves.
Pool/beach towels are provided at the front desk along with beach toys and chairs. The chairs are not heavy at all (as I read in other reviews). The beach is a short walk but you do have to cross a 4 lane street to get to it. The walk past the Westin is simple and then you share the same perfect section of beach as everyone else. We used the water sports at the Westin as well as the beach bar/grill. They have signs posted "for Westin guests only" but they had no problem taking our money (our dollar is only worth .80 CI). Walking distance takes you to 4 or 5 good restaurants. Eats is the best deal and the closest, but Eduardos and Bella Capri were both very good. Expect to spend some serious money-it is not cheap-also beware of many restaurants adding the 15% gratuity on to the bill. All the activities offered provide transportation. Horseback riding by Nicki is highly recommended. Her horses are great! Fish Eyes (right near Eats) had a good snorkel program-very nice people too! The only downside of the Sunshine Suite is there is no view of anything but the new multi-billion dollar construction of the Ritz Carlton, and there are no safes in the rooms.
I carried a lock with me and locked my valuables in my suitcase and maybe there are no safes because it is a very safe island, but I still like the extra security of a safe. The construction is far enough away you can not hear it. For the price we paid (compared to the beach front resorts) this place is well worth it! I would definately stay here again!!

My husband, son and I stayed at Sunshine Suites for a week in early December. It was a great family hotel. We liked having the kitchenette because we could save a little bit of money and not feel so tired of eating out. We took advantage of the continental breakfast too. The property was quiet and clean. The pool was never crowded. The walk to the beach was fine. However, I wish that the road wasn't so busy. The hotel was very close to the grocery store and many restaurants. We would definitely consider the Sunshine Suites again.

Sunshine Suites offers one of the best deals on Grand Cayman. The property is spotless, the pool clean, staff friendly and the beach was amazing! Funny to think we used the same beach as those staying at the Westin and they paid tripple the price. The kitchenettes were perfect for preparing small meals and provided freedom to dine out wherever. We travelled with our 19 month old son and the hotel provided all kinds of kids toys to take to the beach. It is extremely safe and the water is consumable. If you are on a budget and have to see the Caymans, this is definately the way to do it! Also to swim with the sting-rays we also reccommend going with Dexter and his Baby Blue catamaran. Small groups..great local guy that is as much of a personality as the rays. A must do! We will definately be back.

My husband, daughter and I just got back from the Cayman's last night.
We had the most INCREDIBLE time there. Our hotel, Sunshine Suites was great; the short walk to across the street was not a big deal at all....don't let the walk stop you from staying here. We hit the beaches in the mornings or sight seeing then stayed at our hotel pool for late afternoon swims which worked out perfectly. The breakfast is a decent continental breakfast, juices, an assortment of breads, cereals and accompanyments. The lunch and dinner menu was extremely tastey. We sample a lot of menu and everything was very, very good; extremely fresh food. (definites to try are the fish (mahi mahi) tacos, grilled fish of the day, burgers and Asian salad.) Drinks were delicious too, although dissapointed you did not get to keep the "Painkiller's" cool mug!! Oh yeah, and the Thursday night BBQ was quite tastey as well! The rooms were clean, and staff was excellent; each person nicer than the one before. They were patient, and helpful when suggesting restaurants, places to visit or tours....they always steered us in the right direction. Their best advice was renting a car; we had a blast touring the island (which is extremely easy to navigate with the help of their maps) went to Hell, (nothing really to see there), Turtle Farm (my daughter had fun there), Rum Point was absolutely beautiful - a must see either by car, or ferry. The highlight of our trip by far, besides meeting a SUPER family from England, was our trip to StingRay city.
What an unbelievable experience, one we will never forget. One of front desk personnel suggested a smaller catamyran boat which worked out perfectly for us. The 'rays' were just fantastic to see in their environment. The captain of our boat was very safety conscience which made me feel better about being out on a sandbar surrounded by docile StingRays! --My husband would say the highlight of his trip was snorkling with friends on 7 mile beach....He took a tip from a local Dive instructor and bought these fish tablets that they sell in some hotels....He swam out and dropped a couple of fish tablets in the water and was surrounded by several different types of fish. He said it was spectacular....and the pictures from his disposable water camera prove it! Loved the Caymans!
