Great Place to stay

from ctspeer
We just got back from Discovery Point today (June 9th). It was very clean, comfortable and the staff (especially Ollie) was extremely friendly and nice. We stayed in Unit 17 and it was very comfortable and decorated nicely. We had an excellent view of both the pool and ocean. We had 2 children (10 & 4 yrs) and always felt safe, allowed them to walk to the condo from the pool and beach on thier own. Grocery is close, as well as restaurants. Can't say a bad thing about thisplace, other than I wish we could afford to buy one!!!

Discovery Point Club condos

My family and I stayed at Discovery Point Club condos from May 10-16th. It was a great place to stay for families. They have a pool and hot tub on the beach. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

We stayed in Unit #19 and throughly enjoyed it! It was decorated nicely and was very clean. The AC worked great and the sunset views from the balcony are amazing!

I highly recommend this place to anyone going to Grand Cayman!

This year we decided to vacation on Grand Cayman. An internet search revealed Discovery Point Club as a property of interest for accommodation. Although “Trip Advisor” rated it very highly, I was still hesitant to book our 12 day stay sight unseen. Well, for all of you in a similar situation, DO NOT hesitate. This property is by far one of the nicest places we have ever stayed. The huge condo style apartment was extremely clean and well appointed. The balcony, which overlooked the pool, beach and ocean, easily accommodated a table for four as well as a lounger. I was concerned that the screened in feature would occlude our ocean view but it did not. If anything, it kept our suite completely insect free! The location on Seven Mile Beach was close to everything but was far enough from traffic congestion to allow us to choose if we wanted to dine in the busy area of Georgetown or escape to West Bay where traffic was a non-issue. Although hurricane Ivan has uncovered some reef along the portion of beach immediately in front of DPC, there is plenty of sandy ocean access within feet of the property. Some of the best snorkeling was done in the immediate vicinity. It was an easy swim down to Cemetery Reef where I discovered a rare sea snake and an Eagle Ray as well as hundreds of very curious fish. The staff, including the very helpful Ollie Banks and her assistant Anna Rose in the office, as well as the exceptional cleaning staff, all contributed to our memorable stay on Grand Cayman. If I had to dig deep for a complaint it would be the roosters that never sleep on Grand Cayman! After persevering the first night of non-stop crowing we determined that if you turn down the air conditioning low enough, the dull hum was just enough to drown out the late night/early morning courtship! The beautiful birds took on a new appreciation in the morning after a good night sleep! If I return to Grand Cayman I would not consider staying anywhere else.

Discover Discovery Point

We have been coming to the Caymans for over a decade, and missed 2004 because of Hurricane Ivan. Our usual resort, located near D.P., was still closed, so they suggested Discovery Point. We were very happy with our stay. The units are well-appointed, clean, with a nice view. We missed having an oceanfront bedroom, as there is traffic noise and roosters crowing before 6am, but got used to both. The staff is very friendly, and the units are well-maintained. Vegetation is on the rebound from Ivan, and the reef and area snorkeling, while still damaged, is coming back as well.
One word of caution: Traffic! It is getting to be a real problem on the island. One can be stuck during rush hour for long periods of time, so beware when planning to get to the airport or to dinner reservations. Other than that, it's a great destination, with natural beauty and wonderful people.

Loved the Discovery Point!

My family stayed at Discovery Point for 2 weeks in August. This was our 5th trip to Grand Cayman and our first time at Discovery Point. Ollie Ebanks, the manager, is a wonderful woman. She and her staff did all they could to make our stay great.

The rooms are all oceanfront with patios or balconies. This was the first time that our family of 5 (17, 13 &10) stayed in more that 1 room! 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen overlooking a sunken living/dining room and huge sliders to a screened balcony with a ceiling fan. We stayed on the second floor and my brother's family on the third. Both were beautiful. I had a king bed and he had a queen. My second bedroom had a queen and his had 2 twins. Each condo is individually owned and therefore decorated differently. You need to ask.

The island is expensive. We used the kitchen every day. We ate out only twice during our stay. Although cooking is one of the things you want a vacation from, we found it to be a rewarding experience. We purchased all of our meat in the US and brought it down with us. In Cayman, Customs wants to see all of the USDA stamps so leave what you bring in it's original packaging. For everything else we shopped at Foster's. Foster's is a large, well stocked supermarket comparable to any large US supermarket. It is more expensive than home, but it's still less costly than eating out.

The pool and hot tub are on the beach. That made it easy to keep an eye on the kids, whose water preference change every half hour or so. The shoreline is rocky at this part of Seven Mile Beach. The kids found a smooth, sandy spot to get in and out and a sandy area to swim in. Do not get me wrong!! The beach is great but it is rocky at the waters edge, in the water. (I've attached some small pictures) The beach is wide and sandy. There was a grounds keeper out raking the beach in the morning. There are lounge chairs, regular chairs and low sand chairs on the beach for guest use. Umbrellas are on the beach also.

The snorkeling is excellent right off of the beach. The water is calm and warm. My 6 year old nephew learned to swim just this year and was snorkeling on the beach. The water is that calm. We have been to Grand Cayman each year for the last 5 and the ocean is calm enough for young children always! One additional perk to northern SMB - no cruise ship action!!! The beach was empty except for Discovery Point guests everyday! No busloads of people, no beach bar, no restaurants. Just peace and quiet.

We're looking foward to next year's visit already!

We rented a car from Andy's. Great service and the least expensive on the island. Don't miss Stingray City. We've gone there every time we've visited Cayman.

If you have any specific questions, drop me a line.

I want to thank Ollie Ebanks once again!!

Heaven on Earth

I have enjoyed visiting Cayman Islands for the past five years. During these visits I have stayed in a variety of places. Discovery Point has been the most over all enjoyable experience. The location is central, allowing easy car access to West Bay and all of its entertainment to the left and George Town to the right. The condos are really lovely, and they all face the beach. I personally prefer the third floor apartments due to their spectacular view. My favorite one so far is number 41, as the decor is islandy with a sophisticated touch. But the view is what makes it by far the best. This apartment has a view that stretches from George Town all the way across to West Bay. There is nothing like a holiday away from New York to wake up and have breakfast on the balcony. It reminds you that you are in paradise and after the first cup of coffee you don't have to go to the office. Instead you can go snorkeling, as Discovery Point is located very near Cemetery beach which I highly recommend for a snorkeling trip. But it also has a great collection of rocks that house the complete cast of Finding Nemo. I also highly suggest picking up a bottle of Blackbeard’s rum and sitting on the beach each evening to enjoy the most amazing sunsets.

Peace and Quiet

I just returned from the Cayman's with 5 teenagers. What a great trip and various things for them to keep occupied along with me. The condo was great, it was 30 seconds from the ocean, beautiful scenery and lots of sun and water. The pool and jacuzzi was wonderful also. If you want a great taxi driver call Rita Bush 345-916-8345 she is funny, and cheerful and goes out of her way to help you. The turtle farm is sad to me, alot of turtles. The jet skii's were great at the Rotal Palms, ask for Chip, he will take care of you. Parasailing was great, can't remember the name but it had the word "cloud" in it. The luau at the comfort suites was a waist of money in my eyes. Captain Marvins snorkle trip and swimming with the stingrays was the best choose them, they are wonderful! All in all the time went to fast, and yes I will go back again!

Fabulous Place, Great Diving

from A TripAdvisor Member
We loved Grand Cayman and the Discovery Point Club was one of the BIGGEST reasons. The place was quiet, had terrific views and the snorkeling right down on the beach in the back was lovely. We highly recommend this as a place to stay. The people are friendly. The unit we had was well appointed with a complete kitchen (including a blender for frozen cocktails). We went diving with NEPTUNE'S DIVERS and they are terrific as well. Small boat, a limited number of divers, great people and wonderful dives. A GREAT experience all around!! We highly recommend both. Wish we could have stayed longer.

No Problems

We have always stayed at a hotel while we were on vacation so staying at a place without restaurants, etc. was a risk for us. It turned out to be one of the best vacations ever. The living room was large, kitchen well-stocked, and the screened- in porch with a spectacular view of the water was the best. We ate at least one of our meals each day on the porch. We never had to get up early each day to get a spot under an umbrella-- as we always had to do at hotels. There were plenty of lounge chairs and lots of shade. The fish were everywhere right outside of DP. Early morning walks (towards town) gave us the chance to see large turtles swimming in the water. There were lobsters hiding in the rocks near shore. We even got to see a wedding, on the beach at sunset, on our last day there--so romantic. We felt that we needed to rent a car because DP is really far from most things. The trip from the airport was $25 so renting a car didn't cost much more. We brought food for breakfast and lunch at the local grocery store so that we didn't miss much beach time. The food is really expensive at the restaurants anyway. A visit to stingray city is a must. It will change the way you think about them forever. A warning-most things are closed on Sunday so come prepared if you travel on Sunday.

The perfect vacation place!!!!!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We just returned from a week vacation July 18, 2004. We researched this vacation for a couple of months and finally decided on DPC. We are so glad we chose DPC, it was wonderful. The condo was excellent, we stayed in #45 on the 3rd floor and the view was great, the room was immaculant and the staff was so nice. The bus stop is right down from the condo but we did rent a car. My husband and I took our five year old and my mother. It was perfect for us because there wasn't a crowd. the beach was so clean and you could sit under the hut or even a shade tree right on the beach. I can honestly say I have not one complaint. We will not have to research our next trip I know exactly where I want to stay!

Also, our son really enjoyed the Atlantis sub ride, it's a little pricey but a memory he'll never forget.

Top Local Tips for Grand Cayman

Turtle Farm Over rated - very expensive ($50/per person for the "dry experience" , $75 for the "wet experience" meaning you were allowed to swim in the pools. ABSOLUTELY a rip off and not worth it.

snorkle gear Either bring your own snorle gear or buy from a dive shop. snorkeling is great right at DPC and up road about 100 yards at cemetary reef. renting for 3 days is same price and you'll probably want to go more often, or choose the days you wish to go.we didn't need water shoes and returned them when we got back from vacation. you can easily find them on GC if you decide you need them.

Snorkeling Trip My family and I highly recommend going on a tour to go snorkeling at Stingray City and Coral Gardens. Both were spectacular!
