I went to Bermuda in November 2005 with my mom. From the minute we stepped onto the hotel grounds the staff was very friendly and willing to help. The hotel is so close to the airport that you can see it but not hear it which is nice. The taxi ride from the airport was short and cheap. Our bags were taken to our room for us and the maids came and cleaned everyday. The rooms were comfortable and the air conditioner worked well. We had a lovely view from our balcony. The pool was a good temperature but the hot tub was a little too hot. The beach was clean and the water was beautiful. There are lots of beach chairs and a place to feed fish. The caves on the hotel grounds were really interesting and the hotel is close enough to the Crystal and Fantasy Caves so that you can easily walk there. The famous Swizzle Inn is a five-minute walk from the hotel and there is an ice cream shop across the road from the Swizzle Inn. It has delicious ice cream. My mom and I ate breakfast at the hotel our first morning there and we never did it again after that. It was $40 for the two of us. Too expensive for what you get. We didn't eat at any of the restaurants at the hotel except for the place by the poolside that served lunch. All restaurants in Bermuda are more expensive than in the United States but you can easily find some that serve good food at a cheaper price. I highly recommend getting a bus pass at the front desk. We rode the buses everywhere. They are easy to use and will take you practically anywhere you want to go on the island. Just be warned that they go fast and the roads are narrow and there are many sharp turns. The staff at Grotto Bay was very nice and my mom became good friends with the lady in the gift shop. Everyone that we met in Bermuda was extremely friendly and down to earth. Be warned that many shops are not opened on Sundays and those that are close early. The buses also stop running early on Sunday nights. On Holidays everything shuts down. I recommend going to St. George's to see a "ducking" and taking the bus to Hamilton and then getting on a ferry and going to Dockyard. The ferries are very clean, comfortable, and surprisingly fast. You can get many brochures and booklets at the front desk containing loads of information about places to go and things to see. If you are unsure about anything ask someone at the front desk. In our experience they were very willing to help. They also gave great advice. We went on the off-season but still found many things to do. Places were not too crowded and the temperature was superb. Grotto Bay is a great place to stay because it is at a prime location on the island. There were also tennis courts and a Water Sports place right on the resort grounds. Don't be surprised to see wild chickens and cats running around...they are all over the island but they do not bother you. All in all I had an amazing vacation and I feel that Grotto Bay helped make it memorable. I plan on going back again very soon.
