Dont go to this hotel if you dont like the smell of a sewer wafting round pool area and MAKING BEACH UNUSABLE cause the overflowing of swamp in there rainy season. Had good laugh though!!

Lived up to expectations and more

We had read the reviews on Trip Advisor before we went for two weeks in late April and so had felt quite positve. What a lovely hotel! Super food that was nicely presented (although I didn't really like the weekly barbeque), idyllic beach and pool and very helpful and friendly staff. We particularly like the fact that the the Hotel is situated in Holetown so we could wander out to walk or shop when we liked. The walk along the beach to Sandy Lane is a definite must do to see how lovely the coast is and swim in the fantastic beach there. Our only gripe was that the first room we were allocated was a bit gloomy (in the older part) but we were moved on request.
The atmosphere is very laid back and we met very nice people who all helped contribute to a fantastic holiday. There were many times over the fortnight that I lay on the beach with a rum punch in my hand and said to my husband "I think I've died and gone to heaven"...

Perfect Honeymoon!

We have just returned from a wonderful week of honeymooning at Mango Bay (May 16-May 23). If you are looking for a small, all-inclusive hotel with plenty of amenities look no further. Mango Bay has something for everyone-from those who only wish to relax and do nothing, to those who like trips (several are included), to those who like a variety of water sports-Mango Bay is the perfect choice for all ages. Upon arrival we were wisked away to our room (2nd floor oceanfront); in which awaited us a properly chilled bottle of champagne. The view was simply gorgeous. The restaurant was indeed a pleasure. The food was marvelous, and presentation and service were impeccable. Drinks at the bar (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) were fabulous tropical and traditional concoctions. The rooms were very pleasant and comfortable (cleaned daily and turned down in the evening). The grounds and pool were well kept and manicured. The beach in front of the hotel is small, but you can walk the entire cove as there are no private beaches. They have sunfish, windsurfing, snorkeling, kayaking, banana boats, and waterskiing to name some of the water sports available. Everyone at the hotel was so nice. We had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful people; Andrea, Alan, Simon, Shelley, Marcus, Daisy, Alvin, and everyone else made our stay just perfect. The clientele range from children to retirees, mostly British with a few Americans and Canadians tossed in for flavor. There is little about the hotel that is negative. It rained nearly every day, but the sun peeked out at least once a day. Having been to various other islands, we must say that the snorkeling is not great (having gone several places on the island). We are already planning on returning next year, and hope to do so for many years to come. It is no wonder that there are so many repeat guests at Mango Bay-sincere five star service is what really separates it from anywhere else we have been. Thank you all, we are already missing you, and see you next year!

WOW!! How Wonderful!!

Wow!!! What a Wonderful time we had. My husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary (me now 42 & my husband 45) at Mango Bay the week of May 9th through the 17th. We enjoyed ourselves immensley. If you are wanting an all inclusive trip this is it. No, it does not have room service or a fridge in the room....but who needs them. The people who work there are very friendly...if you smile they smile...if you laugh with them and kid with them they enjoy it. From Shelly and Marcus at the front desk....to the servers in the dining area to Tony who makes jewelry and all the ladies who clean the rooms Laura and Daisy....such sweet ladies. They took care of us...we were treated like King and Queen...oh, and the bartenders....Simon....what a wonderful smile and a two thumbs up!!!! :) We can not say enough about the food. The food was just wonderful. Breakfast was serve your self....except the coffe and tea they bring that to your table. Lunch, you had a menu to choose from and dinner as well. We had something different every day and the tea time was just wonderful. We were sure we would have gained tons of weight when we got home and got on the scale...but maybe only gained a few. The beach was just wonderful and you could swim or just lay out or take the catamaran which we did twice. Swam with the turtles ....how awesome. They have a glass bottom boat and snorkeling gear to go snorkeling with. You are also well taken care of on the beach. If you need a towel or a chair ... he got it for you...or umbrella. Everyone there was friendly. If you are friendly and get a long with others you will have no problems here. The whole Island from what we saw of it is very friendly. We took a tour and we did not find an unfriendly person our whole week there. We love Barbados....which..this was our first trip EVER out of the states. We will be back.....many times. We love you Mango Bay. We will be back,
Kevin & Marla Bond :)

Little Hotel with Big Heart

from Cannuk
March 2004 We spent a wonderful week at the a Mango to celebrate my mom`s 70th birthday, there were 8 of us and we had 4 standard rooms in the "old' section, I was worried about previous reviews about the noisy street behind but infact with the air conditioner on you couldn`t hear it , the street is so delightful that we went and enjoyed all the festivities. The Staff was amazing, very friendly and always wanting to please. They even packed beer and rum punch for us to take on a charter boat that we had rented for the birthday bash, as well as decorated mom`s room with ballons, and made a birthday cake for that evening. The food was fantastic with beautiful presentation. The beach is very small but within walking distance of the marine park that has amazing snorkling. I would highly recommand the Mango for large groups as there is so much to do with all the activities that everyone has a great time, we had 3 teenagers with us and they were always busy and happy.
Overall the Mango is clean, friendly and the service excellant. I would return again.

Mango Bay, okay but could be better

We just got back from a week stay at Mango Bay in St James, Barbados. Although I do think it was good value for the money, there were some problems. They lack some basic amenities, like a clean restroom near the beach, which required us to make a trek back to our room (3 floors up - no elevator). We had a great balcony with a view of the ocean - but the balcony was too hot to enjoy - a ceiling fan would have made it bearable. There was no room service and no fridge in the room. The reception staff were for the most part friendly and pleasant - but the restaurant staff were pretty horrible - they did not smile at all and frowned if you asked a question. The meals were pretty good - not terrific. Desserts were not good at all.

Fantastic holiday - will definitely be returning!

The Mango Bay is a real find, the food is great, the staff can't do enough for you, and we were made to feel very welcome during our stay Jan/Feb 04.

The two of us (girls, good friends and that's all!) arrived to find a very friendly welcome and ultra-efficient staff. Our room had a great view of the pool and the sea, and as the hotel is mostly built round the pool area - there are some top-grade ocean view rooms which are a step away from the main buildings, everything is no more than a minute's walk away. There is a shop, the Rock Boutique, selling fabulous rings, necklaces and bracelets, all hand made and designed mostly by the charming owner herself.

The other guests are mostly English/Scots and Canadian - all very friendly, easy to get on with etc, and some of us ended up having dinner together every night! The food was delicious and everything was very clean.

We changed rooms for the second week and had a poolside one on the ground floor which was a superior room, so much bigger - and of course equally as comfortable. If you are looking for a week or two's relaxation lying by the pool or down by the sea, with trips thrown in, come to the Mango Bay - there is a small shopping centre just across the road, another one a very short bus ride away (or you can walk it in 10 minutes) and the chattel houses village with some fabulous shops for clothes. A trip into Bridgetown is also one of the many free outings on offer at the hotel. You can also take a trip on the catamaran and go snorkeling with with turtles, water ski, sail etc - all free. I would definitely return.

My boyfriend and took a much needed vacation to Mango Bay in June 2003.
We were there for 7 days and enjoyed our stay very much. We thought the food was great as well as the staff. We enjoyed the location and all of the relaxation we were able to get! We dined one evening at The Cliff, which is about a 10 minute cab ride from Mango Bay, it is VERY expensive, but if you can afford it, it is well worth the money. I think it was the best food I have ever had in my life! I enjoyed Mango Bay's fantastic european breakfasts and light lunches and the great soups they had there for dinner. I have many places to travel before returning to one I have already been, however when the day comes to return to Barbados, I will choose Mango Bay without a doubt!
