barbados at its best

from A TripAdvisor Member
My girlfriend and i have just returned from a week's stay at Butterfly beach and I have to say that it is superb. I booked an allocation on arrival deal with Airtours and was so impressed when we turned up at the hotel.

If you're after a decent, clean 3* hotel or self catering appartment as we enjoyed you should basically look no further. The staff are really pleasant. We had our bed made up every day and the room cleaned every other day. The rooms are spacious with good decor and the happy hour at 5pm was good value for rum punch cocktails. The pool is a decent size for a dip and cleaned daily. We never ate at the hotel as St Lawrence Gap is only a 5 minute bus ride away which again is another selling point in my view

The best thing about this place though is the beach. Last week there were no more than 15 people on it at any one time so it really felt like a private beach. You can use the sun loungers from the Sea Breeze hotel and the views of the ocean are simply beautiful. There is a lovely calm breeze and while the water is not the mill pond of the west coast it is far from choppy.

I have been to Barbados a couple of times and this was easily the best value for money place I have stayed. Go and enjoy the paradise!

a must stay

A superb hotel, very clean, staff friendly and cannot do enough for you. The karakoke on a Thursday night in the bay is a really good laugh. the managers rum punch party has as much as you can drink. Annabel the manager is great.
The bus stop is 20 metres from the front door so you do not need to hire a car,bus fares anywhere are 1.50 (50p) even for the longest journey. A must for a excursion is Ted's tours round the island with Rum Punch & lunch included and Ted himself is a wonder.
So if you are looking for a home from home look no further.

paradise for a week - excellent hotel and staff - thankyou

an excellent hotel - paradise for a week!
have only seen one view to compare with the one from the hotel here and it was in malaysia. the sea is green and the beaches pink sand - you do not need to leave the hotel!
staff are lovely, food excellent and all round fabulous value.
thankyou

Great location, friendly staff, BRILLIANT!

My wife & I have just returned from a wonderful two weeks at the Butterfly Beach hotel.
When you arrive you walk in to a nice quiet reception area & are met by very friendly staff who will help you with anything at all. The hotel of course is right on the beach, has a nice pool with lots of sun loungers, also there is three new jacuzzis which are great. There is a nice bar with an open air restaurant next to the water (be careful not to get splashed by the waves though!!)
Although the food is very good I would not have main meals (Lunch, dinner) because they serve very mean portions & therefore you will still be hungry! It is easy to get a cab to St Lawrence gap for around B$15 which is about £5 or jump on a reggae bus if you have the nerve for about B$1.50 which is about 50p, there are lots of great places to eat & drink there as that is where it all happens at night.
Ok back to the hotel again, the rooms are clean, tidy & spacious with balcony & en-suite shower room, we stayed in the new wing which has A/C & a ceiling fan, there is no TV in the rooms & anyway who cares when you are in Barbados!
The maids were very good & cleaned the rooms on a daily basis & always left fresh towels & made your bed with clean sheets....oh yes you also have a small kitchenette with cooker & fridge which is ok.
Overall I think this is a great Hotel & will certainly be returning to Butterfly beach next year.
Remember your insect repellant because the mosquitoes are a real pest. also at night you will have to listen to the whistling frogs & they are quite loud but you soon get used to them.
Everyone we spoke to at the hotel were quite happy with Butterfly Beach Hotel & had few complaints if any at all, if its 5 star luxury you want the you had better go to Sandy lane if you can afford it because this is not a luxury hotel, however it is very good value & very comfortable.
The location is great right on the south coast & not far from Oistins, the gap & Bridgetown & it is pleasantly quiet in the evening.
While you are soaking up the sun on the beach or the sun loungers you will almost certainly get approached by vendors trying to sell aloe vera, necklaces or even wacky backy, if you are not interested a "no thankyou" is usually enough.
Things to do:
Atlantis submarine trip is amazing.
Grenadines tour is simply paradise whilst sailing on an 80 ft schooner.
Barbados wildlife reserve in the north of the island is well worth alook, if you go at about 3pm you have more of a chance to see the monkeys.
Graeme Hall nature sanctuary is also well worth a visit & it is on the south coast.
On the west coast at mullins beach you can go out on a glass bottomed boat and swim with the turtles, what an experience that was.
The list is endless, if anyone has any questions then mail me & I shall do my best to give you an answer.
Happy holidays!
PS: Bottom bay on the south east has to be seen as it is truly breathtaking.
Car hire is around £200 PW.
Eating out is quite expensive but very tasty!
Oistins fish fry on a friday night is a great night out & the fish are really tasty, flying fish, marlin, dolphin (not flipper!) & a few others I think.
Have fun,
Regards,
Jon.

cannot believe the bad review

from A TripAdvisor Member
I cannot believe the review from the trip advisor, new york, myself and my family have been going to barbados every year since 1996, sometimes twice and we have always stayed at the Butterfly beach or the seabreeze hotel (butterfly's sister hotel) along side each other on the same beach. We have always found the staff extremely helpful and have never experienced any attitude or below average cleaning standards, the pools were cleaned every morning and you could not fault any of the meals served. No there is not much entertainment there of an evening but they do not advertise any different to this. This hotel is on a beautiful quiet beach (almost seems like your own private beach) and I would recommend this strongly to anyone looking to relax and totally chill.

p.s On one visit to this hotel, I was hospitalised for the whole of the second week of my holiday and was sent a beautiful flower arrangement from the hotel, only to be visited by the hotel manager, informing me that everyone was thinking of me and that if I needed to stay on in Barbados there would be no problem, they would ensure there was a room for me and my husband with them.

Keep up the good standards

Anne & Angus Ferguson - we will be back

wonderful location

we just returned from a wonderful 2 weeks in barbados. we stayed at the butterfly beach hotel, a small intimate hotel on the south coast near oistens and st. laurence gap. our room was clean, sheets changed everyday. we had a balcony where we cold sit to admire the beautiful tropical gardens and listen to the surf crashing on to the shore. it's a quiet, casual, friendly hotel and the food was wonderful and the price was right. we'll definitely go back. diana/bob kingston ontario

t go there

This place doesn't deserve any star. I requested and paid for a room with a beach view. I got a room with a view on the next-door hotel wall. There is only 1 room with a beach view, and you have to get your head out of the balcony to see the ocean. The staff is everything but pleasant. They give you an attitude every time you go to the desk and ask for information. They think that they do you a favor to let them stay in their place. For some reason, they are always on the phone talking to some relative, and you will have to wait until they are done to make a request. That can take some time. The room service is disgusting. The maid cleans the rooms with the dirty water that cleaned all the other apartments before yours. The result is a fresh scent of piss all over your room. I had to request the staff to stop cleaning the room, and go myself to the supermarket to buy and clean the room myself. It is not true that towels and sheets are changed every day, it's more like 1 every 2 days. The hotel doesn't have any beach chairs and umbrellas on the beach. The ocean water is choppy, if you want calm water, you will need a car and drive for 20 minutes to the north east coast. The pool water is totally dirty and I never bathed there, I was to afraid of fungus. No TV in the room either. The only place with a TV is the bar. The TV size is about 15 inches, so bring your glasses. Dont expect much to do at night because there is nothing to do at the hotel, apart for the weekly rhum punch. Dont expect any fancy food, only fries and burgers are served. Anyway, I payed $65 per night for a room and I though that it was a good deal, but it's not. Unless you enjoy living in jail. The only good thing about the Butterfly Beach Hotel is that you have to get out of there and explore the island. It is also close to Oistins where you can get great Fish sandwiches every Friday. Do yourselves a favor, take your money and go somewhere else that's decent. No place like this deserve any business.

Best Holiday Ever

from Rosiepeardrop
My Boyfriend and i stayed at Butterfly Beach from the 5th to 19th january 2004 what a fantastic holiday! We had a standard room with no air conditionung but the beautiful sea breeze coming through our balcony and strong ceiling fan was more than comfortable. The view from our balcony was breath taking! the picturesqe view of white sands and clear and clear blue seas fringed with palm trees made you feel alive in the morning excited for what the next day will bring. The rooms and hotel were basic but very clean and spacious with a kingsize bed and very powerful showers oh and the maids came EVERYDAY WITH CLEAN BEDDING AND FRESH TOWELS. regardless of previous comments i read before my stay which made me quite nervous, also there was 24 hour security which made you feel safe and there were hardly any venders on the beach. When we pulled up outside the hotel and soaked in the great surroundings and atmosphere of Bajun life we thought thank god we didnt listen. The lunchtime menu in the small but cosy bar was fantastic. During the evening we caught the Reggae buses which are a must do experience into St lawrence gap, the mexican sol cafe and Mcbrides the irish bar which was our favourites for food and coctails macbrides also for entertainment. for those of you wanting romantic meals by the ocean Davids Place and Bellinis Italian restaurant both in the gap were beautiful. Oistens fish fry on a friday are a must great atmosphere not to be missed If you get the chance to do a Jeep safari round the island it gives you a true insight to the whole island of barbados a truly great day out We will definatley return to Barbados in a couple of years and would have no hesitation in staying again at Butterfle Beach

fantastic, great location

I have just returned back from staying at the Butterfly Beach Hotel after a 2 week vacation. It is Fantastic !! i do not understand the negative previously written reports about this hotel they are crackers ! it has to be the best value place on the Island, in great location for the south of the island / St Lawrence Gap and Oustins on the Friday night .If i was to win the lottery i would still stay here, with friendly staff and very clean rooms with the bedding changed daily .
The location is stunning only metres from the white sandy beach and clear blue sea.s . This is my 4th visit to the island in 5 years and will definatly stay here again. Forget Sandy Lane ! it isn,t worth the extra £23,000.

Nice Place For The Money !!!

Butterfly Beach Hotel met the criteria for an affordable vacation, so we took our first trip to Barbados and loved our stay. The staff was friendly and the bartender was entertaining. We stayed in a room without a/c , phone or tv. We had no problem with bugs or heat this past Nov./ Dec. We recommend this hotel for you beginner windsurfers too. You're 100 meters from the training and rental center for Club Mistral. ( no place for kitesurfers here though, try the Silver Rock Hotel, Silver Sands or Long Beach Club)
