November is a great time to go

from A TripAdvisor Member
November is a fantastic time to visit Barbados. We had fabulous weather, just rain on one day and we chose that day to go shopping in Bridgetown. I would suggest that anyone who thinks that the Bougainvillea resort is 5 star has not often stayed in 5 star accomodation. That said the room was lovely, we had a plunge pool outide the patio doors which we used regulary, the service on the whole was excellent except at times for the bar staff who quite often seemed to resent us just being there and were surly and seemed not to be able to cope at happy hours. We found some of the pointers very useful on this site prior to our holiday so these are ours- and are purely our opinion. Drinks at the poolside bar are expensive so make the most of happy hours from 11.30-12.30 and 3.30-4.30 where you get 2 drinks for the price of one. We had stock of drink in our room, there is the worlds biggest fridge and loads of ice and room for beer. Friday nights there is a fish fry at Oistins, a great night out good music and cheap food and drink. free shuttle from hotel but book early. Drink rum here by the 1/4 bottle and bottle coke - very cheap!!!!!!!!!! £3 for both Water all over barbados mineral water so absolutely safe to drink.
Restaurants that were our favourites were- watersedge next boor to bougainvillea, harlequin and best of all Josefs(but not for those on a budget) Food here as good as ive had anywhere in the world. We did try leroys van and were pleasantly surprised, lots of food for little money Bougainvillea not as close as you would think to the gap where all the action and restaurants are so you need to budget for 2 taxi rides per day Approx 24 BDS-£8 Rum factory a nice morning visit. Harrisons cave fabulous but flower cave a waste of time. (and rather like Royston Vasey) Best day out by a long way was the land 4X4 safari, havent laughed so much in ages and if you do go and you get Junior as your driver then GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!! We had a tour on Catamaran Tiami-excellent again. Swam with huge turtles, lots of free alcohol and great lunch. We found as it was November places were busy but not crowded like they would be after December, there were very few children which was a great plus for us and people were very relaxed and staff had time to spend with you. We had a great time at Bougainvillea, we dont tend to return to places as there are more fabulous places out there but for those of you planning a trip you will love it.

Bougainvillea Beach Resort

from LoveBarbados
Just returned from my 5th trip to Bougainvillea, staying 11 relaxing days. The weather was perfect, with a few clouds to give you a break from the hot sun. I feel this hotel is the greatest and will return again next year. The staff is wonderful and cannot do enough for you. The rooms are really great, all have an ocean view and furnished nicely. I had a 1 bedroom unit on the second floor and it had everything necessary, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, coffee maker, etc. plus a full kitchen. The terrace is large and has a table and 4 chairs along with a chaise lounge. My package included the breakfast buffet which was a good way to start the day, cereals, eggs, fruit, etc. There are plenty of umbrellas to give you the much needed shade on the beach and at the pool. The 2 happy hours at the pool bar each day is a great way to mingle with others.

Our wedding at Bougainvillea Resort

from A TripAdvisor Member
We flew into Barbados for the first time two weeks ago to get married.
I cannot say enough about the staff at Bougainvillea Resort!!! Everyone was so accomadating and friendly. It was very clean and very well run.
We made a lot of friends there and ourselves and two other couples made an agreement to meet back there in 5 years! Avril was our wedding coordinator and we couldn't have done it better ourselves. She is an Angel and took care of everything. We'd go back in a heartbeat.

oh my god, i loved it!

it's like walking up the steps to paradise hotel. we arrived on a tuesday evening, after a long day of travel, and were immediatley told 'put your bags down, you're on holiday now.' the main lobby is centered in this marble dome and is outside. it's filled with palm trees and water falls, and you can see the pools and beach. i didn't think it could get better, but the room was wonderful, complete with kitchen, large bath, and large balcony with seating for 5! it overlooked the peaceful blue green carribbean ocean and hotel pools. the pools themselves are genius. they are complete with waterfalls, bridges you can swim under, steps, and one has a bar in it. a bar right in the pool where bajans are more than happy to double whatever your alcoholic order was. lanterns by the sea restaurant good, although pricey.
however, the food is good, and service was also very good. i recommend the carribbean shrimp. it's wonderfully spiced. the maid service is also excellent, as are the water sports provided by the hotel. what a wonderful vacation, the hotel was just as beautiful and spectacular as the rest of the island. each time a tour bus would pick us up for a daily activity people would ask all about the resort. i would go there again. paradise hotel has nothing on bougainvillea beach resort.

Essential info for budget traveller

Essential info if on a budget : Taxi to hotel 25bds Hotel to St lawrence 12bds Hotel to Oistins 14bds Bean and Bagel internet cafe St lawrence 10bds for 30mins

If taxi drivers charge you anymore, don't tip as they have over charged you.

Barbados dollar equals 50% US dollar and 33% GB sterling

Leroy has a small catering outside main entrance, excellent value for money, recommend his red snapper, bbq spare ribs and roast chicken.
dish plus 2 veg/ salad choices 12bds

Hotel is well furnished and fantastic location. good gym. water sports are well catered for, a firm but polite "no thanks" may have to be repeated to the sellers on the beach.

Check your itemised bill at check out, I was overcharged and when questioned they realised a mistake had been made and changed the bill.

St lawrence is not as busy as it was, the opening of some clubs elsewere have taken the trade away. Harbour Lights on wedesday is a good night out. USD15 drink as much as you like at the their beach party. Club Extreme good on Friday and Saturdays. The Boatyard is worth a visit on on Tuesdays

Great hotel - great price

from A TripAdvisor Member
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Bougainvillea Hotel and would strongly suggest anyone visiting Barbados consider staying there. The beach is beautiful. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The restaurant at the hotel was okay - but we chose to head to St Lawrence Gap for better dining options. For an inexpensive lunch -- Check out Leroy's Downhome Cooking catering truck which stops right outside the hotel at noon Mondays thru Fridays. Overall great hotel.

Bougainville did not accommodate Handicapped

from A TripAdvisor Member
I just returned from the Bougainvillea which was supposed to be a two week stay. I am handicapped and requested a ground floor room. When I arrived to check in, they could not accommodate me with a ground floor room which forced me to take a taxi and check in at a higher priced hotel. The upset the Bougainville caused me ruined my vacation.

Internet reservations

from leggs
When using Internet companies to book your reservation (Travelocity, etc) try to confirm it with the actual hotel before leavingl. I had a prepaid Travelocity reservation at Bougainvillea Resort but they had no listing in their computer. They did put me up one night there and then the rest of the week at the Sand Acres. Both properties are very nice.
The Sand Acres is a bit more quiet and has a great ocean breeze to keep you cool. The staff at both resorts are friendly, helpful and always smiling. I did hear of other people having the same problems with their Yahoo reservations, so always be careful.
