Comfort suites left a lot of to be desired. It was less expensive than staying at the Atlantis but I would not recommend it. We requested to be in the newer section back in August 2004 but were placed in the old section. It was out-dated with stained and dirty carpet and sofas. Our air-conditioner leaked and there was a water stain and moisture on the carpet. There was also a musty, moldy, smell in the room and hallways. We had access to the Atlantis but it was inconvenient to walk there every day. If at all possible stay at the Beach Tower or Coral Tower at the Atlantis. I've stayed at other Comfort Suites and they were fine but this was disgusting. They should be ashamed that they own a beautiful property like the Atlantis and let this one go.

no comfort no suites

from A TripAdvisor Member
my family and I which consisted of me my husband my 6 year old daughter and 10 month old son had the worst experience ever. All I can say is never stay at this hotel with children. First off we got a nasty cold after the first day and anytime we wanted medicine or a drink we had to go to the atlantis. and let me tell you trying to walk there down a flight of stairs with a carriage and two kids is no laughing matter.
the front desk was very nasty we had no luggage service and our hotel room was extremely far from the check in point. Every vending machine and ice machine in the hotel was out of order. there refrigerator was more like a hot box. they had no room service and let me tell you when your feeling sick and it's raining outside you appreciate that service with little children. Then we needed to see a doctor even though you can use atlantis facilities believe me you are not a guest of the atlantis hotel. if you need to make a phone call noone at the front desk helps. we couldnt get anymore pillows our whole stay. The continental breakfast consisted of stale bagels dunkin doughnuts and cereal. For a little extra money I'll stay at the atlantis next time but I will never step foot in the comfort suites again.

comfort suites was great value

Folks: just got back from PI , stayed at Comfort Suites. Family of four- we had a blast. I am not sure what is under consideration for some of the posters, but CS was defoinately the greatest value down there. Access to Atlantis at essentially half price is worth any minor inconvienece. With a 3 min walk you have all maner of pool and ocean at your disposal. We have stayed many places and Atlantis is the perfect mix of Disney meets the Caribbean I have ever seen. Pros: living it up at Atlantis for substantial discount. Con: all of PI is pretty expensive. Best food deals were Poop Deck, the restauraunts at Hurricane Hole, and Crocodiles. Downtown Nassau wasn't much, you could spend all your time at the resort and be content.PS Powerboat Adventure to Exuma while pricey was worth every penny - outstanding!!!

great hotel and location!

Just got back from staying at the comfort suites and we had a wonderful stay. It was a delight to go back to this hotel and get away from the Atlantis crowds every night! Our room was in the older section overlooking the pool and was very clean from the sheets to the bathroom! the AC and refrig worked great! Atlantis is of course amazing, we spent 2 days at the beach cove located behind the water slides, not as crowded or noisy as the pools or beach area in front of the hotel. Go on the booze and cruise! alot of fun for $50. snorkeling is included as are a box lunch and drinks, cruise is 4 hrs long; 45 min snorkling, 1 hr on deserted beach and we thought it was well worth it.
Anthonys Grill across the street was very good and reasonably priced.
if you only want to get a sandwich go to the news stand by the ferry, again very good and cheap. It was dissapointing that most everything closed up at Atlantis outside including the pools at at 7pm. Comfort Suites is the way to go if you on a tight budget, we found the Bahamians to be very friendly and recommend it!

The Atlantis Suites

I followed these reviews frequently before going to the bahamas. My concern always was whether certain reviews were biased one way or another. I can assure you that my family( husband, wife, 5 & 2 yr olds) does not travel often. That our vacations are very valuable time to us and involve years of saving. That being said the comfort suites provided exactly what my family needed. A staging ground for the atlantis hotel. The rooms were neat and the beds comfortable. The refrigerator worked marginally. Thats really all we required. The pool, food, and staff here were adequate but we used all of them so infrequetely that it was irrelevant. The atlantis on the other hand was something to be seen and where 90% of your time and money will be spent. To answer some questions that I had prior to going: Yes, there is no difference at all between a CS guest and an atlantis guest, the walk from CS to Atlantis Pools is about 10-15 mins but atlantis is so huge that its 10-15 mins to anywhere there. The average meal cost for my family of 4 was about $75. That includes a couple of drinks. That is an average. We did Dominos Pizza one night for $35, dinner at an Atlantis Deli for 75 and Seagrapes in the Atlantis ( highly recommended ) for around 100. My wife and I both agreed that Atlantis is basically a Vegas theme casino on a extra large scale plopped in the middle of the Bahamas. Quick note on the bahamas, the people were very nice but we try to be as polite as possible, please, thank you and a smile work wonders. We travelled with another family comprised exactly as our own and all agreed CS/Atlantis make a very good family vacation.

A good choice for budget minded travelers

Read the other reviews and understand strengths/limitations.... then go to Comfort Suites on Paradise Island.

We had a nice time there and were on a budget. It isn't cheap by any means, but don't expect luxury.

Plusses - Atlantis access... you'll spend all day there and come back to sleep or change clothes. It is way less expensive than Atlantis and is just a short walk (5 minutes) truly across the street. Free breakfast and inexpensive lunch available on the property. Generally nice staff - you treat them nice, they'll treat you nice (no big surprise here.) Fridge, coffemaker, great air conditioning.

Minuses - Our toilet was broken. We mentioned to front desk on our way out to dinner. They said they'd fix it immediately. When we returned it still wasn't fixed. Within half an hour and an additional reminder, it was back in service.

Also - ask to stay in the new section if rooms are available - be pleasant. No rooms of our type were available and we thanked the receptionist for trying, then suddenly there was a room available.
Coincidence?

Expect to pay more for all food - $50 a person for a normal dinner.

A good experience in relaxation for a great price.

Very ideal for college students

It was a while ago when I stayed at Comfort Suites in Nassau. I gave it a neutral rating because overall the hotel is merely average.. although I would rate the trip and the Atlantis as excellent! Comfort Suites is very budget oriented. When me and my friends first arrived there we were pretty disappointed. There was no beach nearby...the hotel is very budgety and average. The rooms are nice and spacious. The pool had a swim up bar, but overall the whole atmosphere was kinda blaaa. Some of the rooms had sliding glass doors to the outside which was cool. There was also a shopping center with some good restaurants and convenience stores nearby. Had it not been for full-access to the Atlantis our vacation would have been VERY boring. The Atlantis is incredible and we honestly didn't spend much time at Comfort Suites. Atlantis has everything...nightlife, restaurants gambling, water slides, shopping and beaches. Some of the nicest beaches are right outside the Atlantis.
It is a little bit of a walk from the hotel to Atlantis and you have to be careful at night when your coming back, as you tend to forget that people drive on the left side of the road (esp when you're drunk and are running accross the streets but I guess this would only be a problem for college students) . I would recommend Comfort Suites because it is an inexpensive hotel which gives you full access to the Atlantis as if you were a guest there. You won't want to spend much time at Comfort Suites anyway.

The Trip of a Lifetime has a Price

We knew going in that things would be expensive, and were not disappointed on that score(except that the drinks were not as expensive as we thought they would be). We stayed across the street at Comfort Suites, but spent all of our time at Atlantis. We learned from other reviews that a great deal of walking would be involved, and boy, did we. The upside of all the walking was that we excercised off all the food that we ate. Atlantis is truly a magnificent place. One of our most pleasant surprises was getting to see major movies for free at the theatre. We found a restaurant across the street that was every bit as nice as the restaurants at Atlantis, and slightly less expensive. The service was ok given that every food & drink purchase had an automatic 15% gratuity tacked on. We will gladly recomend to oir friends & neighbors that Atlantis should be put on their places to go list.

Great Hotel

I cannot believe that people write bad reviews about this hotel. We had the best experience ever. When we arrived we asked if we could stay in the remodeled section, which they said no problem. They have elevators to these rooms which is great for people with problems getting up the stairs. The room was big and clean, and plenty of room for 3 adults and 1 child. The breakfast was great (saved us a lot of money) The Atlantis is huge and you do a lot of walking. the staff was very friendly. The pool was very nice and the bartenders were great. Love Crystal and Michael. They were a lot of fun. There is nothing wrong with this hotel at all. We went snorkling one of the days. I highly recommend it. To get access to the Atlantis was well worth staying at the comfort suites. I would stay there again in a second. Everyone we met was very helpful with whatever we needed.

t afford Atlantis

from ejan
Since Atlantis is the most fantastic resort on this planet... I would recommend staying at the Comfort Suites (if you can't afford Atlantis). There was nothing wrong with it, it's just not a fancy hotel. The rooms are not suites however, just rooms, with an area for the couch. We ended up getting a second room adjoining for more space. (Two older kids.) As I said, Atlantis is fantastic, and not to be missed... so sleep at the Comfort Suites and spend all your days and evenings at Atlantis! By the way, the continental breakfast is not so great, I'd recommend skipping that and getting the buffet at Atlantis, which is well worth the $. (You can skip lunch after that breakfast!)

It really was Paradise

from A TripAdvisor Member
I do not know what all the complaining is about. I read reviewsfor about a month prior to our vacation and most of what I heard wasnegative. My wife and I and our two kids (ages 7 and 9) just returned (7days) and this was by far the best vacation we have ever had. This iscoming from someone who lives in Orlando and visits the attractionsreguarly. There is an abundance of things to do and the Comfort Suites isvery adequate. A lot of walking is required, but if you stayed at Atlantisyou would probably have as much. There are deals as far as food and things. There is a grocery store near and can satisfy the kids for at least threeor four lunches (peanut butter and jelly). Anthony's deli has decentsandwich items at a reasonable price. Breakfast at Comfort Suites is goodand gets you through until lunch. Probably saves you $30 a day for a familyof four. We split lunches at Atlantis when we ate there. Kids meals are $6and are big enough to share with an adult. Murrays deli in Atlantis servesan Atlantean Club sandwich that has at least one and a half pounds of meat(i'm not kidding). Buy some bread and have sandwiches for a couple of days.Daily crafts and free movies at Atlantis are a plus. The kids could see anew movie almost every day. Kids movies usually run at 6:00 p.m.Suggestion: bring a small fold up cooler and carry to Atlantis pools eachday. Buy a small bottle of Nassau Rum, pineapple and orange juice and mixyour own drinks by the pool. Bar staff are happy to give you a cup of icewhen you need it. Wait staff are not openly friendly. You have to pull thesmile out of them. When you do you will notice the true bahamas lifestyle.Laid back and friendly. Pools and slides at Atlantis are awesome. After acouple of days my wife and I were comfortable with letting our kids go bythemselves. There are plenty of lifeguards and pool staff for support. Lastbut not least, Michael at the Comfort Suites pool bar is without a doubtthe most friendly person we met. A true family man that always has a smile.Be sure to get a Green Monster.

Top Local Tips for Paradise Island

Save money eating off property Spend your dollars in the Hurrican Hole or Marina areas while on Paradise Island. Beer is cheaper, food is cheaper and your dollar stretches further.

Gratuities Be careful not to tip until you check your bill. They seem to rely on guilt here and there is usually a 15% gratuity added to every purchase. Who gets the gratuity when I buy a beachball for my child at the Atlantis?

Power Boat Adventure Tours Loved our trip to Ship Channel Cay! Thank you Sharon, Steve aka "Brownie" and Nigel for a day with a 1000 memories. Fed sea-rays, fed sharks, snorkeled, sun, beach, tiki huts, fabulous lunch included, open bar, nature hike! the powerboat is an amazing vessel, very smooth ride, very comfortable. Got to see Bahamas for real - the out islands. Got to chat with the locals and really had a fabulous time. Definately doing this trip again!
