Great Staff - Trying hard to Please!

Check in was easy. However, we reserved two rooms but only one was ready upon arrival which was ok but the other was not ready until 5:30 or so and not until we followed up, someone came to open up the unit. The maid service could be better - very cheap resort - we did not get anything in the room complimentary! Our room key did not work and had to be reprogrammed many times which was a pain! We had to call for towels many times and tissues. The pools were a mess, not very clean due to on-going construction but my children enjoyed the water slides.
The best thing about this resort is the staff - always eager to please and willing to make guests stay as comfortable as possible. The grounds are very beautiful and very clean, not much to do at the resort. The Marina side offers an exquisiste view and the beach was breath-taking as well! On the grounds is a small store which was great for things like Soda, water and liquor and other fine things.
The resort offer a complimentary shuttle service on Sundays only to the grocery store which is a 10 minutes walk away or $1.25 bus fare. The store - Super Value is great and prices are about the same as New York's so no need to fetch stuff - we bought many things.
We went out on tours everyday to keep busy.We went to the Fish Fry area and downtown area as well and ate. We took the #10 bus which was cheaper than a taxi. Downtown area also has a grocery store by the Burger King and the prices are great as well so if you are staying at any resport, you can go and shop there as well.
All the action seems to be at downtown and at Paradise Island. We went to Paradise Island two days. We also went on the Island World tour and it was an excellent trip - great experience, lots to eat and drink too! It is a bit costly but worth it.
People are very friendly and quite helpful - just be careful but overall security is good.
This resort is not for you if you want a 5 star treatment. If you value peace, quiet, serenity and not crowded place, then this is the place for you - close to stores, airport and many other sightseeing facilities. Overall, i did enjoy my stay admist the few mishaps. However, if i do go back to the Bahamas, i will go and stay on Paradise Island. I hope this helps the next traveller.

I stayed at Sandyport beach Resort for one week in May of this year and it was excellent. The staff was friendly and responsive. The beach was wonderful, the grounds were very nice, the pool was terrific, and the restaurant was real good but prices were a little high. The staff was very helpful when I needed information about transportation into downtown Nassau, but take the bus. The cost is $1.25 one-way the problem here is bus services stop at 6pm. The best way to travel in Nassau is rent a car for $250 a week. Also if you need more room rent a one bedroom not a studio that's for cheap people. Have a good time; I plan to be back in May 2010.

We stayed in a TINY room, where you could hear your neighbours breathing. It had NO view, NO chairs, remote control, cups, coffeemaker, alarm clock, ironing board, etc. FAR from everything, no amenities at all. Compared to the average hotel in Nassau, it was quite expensive, and we got horrible, horrible service. It took 4 hours and 5 phone calls to get some hangers for the room. We didn't get any maid service the first day. They didn't do the wake-up call, despite not having an alarm clock. They were "friendly" at the front desk, but utterly useless. The surroundings were definitely quiet (ie. TOTALLY DEAD). The whole place seems to be a mistake in location, and a miserable failure. Might be OK if you have a boat and live there half the year.

We visited Sandyport Resort for one week in late August. The staff was friendly and responsive.
The beach was wonderful, the grounds were very nice, the pool was terrific, and the restaurant was pretty good. The staff was very helpful when we needed information about transportation, places to go, etc. Stay away from the game room - it smells and is not very nice.

We will definitely return to Sandyport. It is a very nice, quiet, family type place. If you want 5 star vacation places, pay the money and go somewhere else. If you want a beautiful, clean, friendly resort - visit Sandyport

MY worst vacation ever!!!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I bought a timeshare here October 2003 - so October 2004 was to be the 1st time to we would stay at Sandyport Resort. We made our reservations months in advance but a week before we were to leave the reservations were not showing up in anyones systems - neither Sandyport or Festiva or RCI - But we got lucky (so I thought) and we talked with a sympathetic person at Festiva and we were off as scheduled to Sandyport.
Our flight to Bahamas was smooth as silk and we arrived at Sandyport on Saturday Oct. 2, 2004. First thing the rude desk clerk said to us was the condo was not ready - But we were ok with that, Not a problem for us. Wwe went to lunch and walked around the grounds returning a couple of hours later - ROom was still not ready -
Mind you there had been a couple of hurricanes in the weeks before we arrived and no guests had been there - the resort had been closed for close to 2 weeks - 5 pm still not ready- What could they be doing??? Now we are among quite a few people that are waiting for their rooms and in the next room where we are all sacked out they are selling new timeshares to other unsupecting tourists!!! Plying them with drinks and food but nothing was offered to us!
We finally got into the room - for spending all that time cleaning - it wasn't!!!
But what the heck, we were finally here!! I called the front desk to ask about bottled water and was told If you want water come up here and get it. There are ways to speak and this was not the way - Courtesy lessons could have been used by this clerk - nothing she said was said politely -

But back to Sandyport, We had been told when we bought our timeshare that the boat "Bayrunner" belonged to Sandyport and was a great trip to take - so we went to the recreation desk and made reservations through Jerome to take the Wednesday trip....
On Tuesday we had a nice meeting with Angela (she handles Complaints and training) and also with the Resorts new General Manager - We told them about the wait for the room, staff rudeness, the lack of cleanliness of the room, ect... Guess what, we were not the only ones to be invited to this type of session!!
Wednesday morning and we were off on our boat trip - Snorkling with the sharks and at another tropical site then lunch on a little inlet - there were approximately 18 people on board. Everyone was drinking rum punch with the exception of myself and a teenage boy. We drank diet pepsi and bottled water. The trip started late had to wait for some friends of Jerome's to arrive and then we made a side trip to get gas at another marina and because the boat was running so raggedly one of the other boat owners at this marina took a look at the engine and did a quick tune up. THen we were finally off to snorkle...these were two of the best sites I have ever snorkled... At 3:20 PM we finally got to the lunch spot. The boat driver pulled the boat up to shore and started exiting people off the front of the boat - two people got off before me and then it was my turn - I step up on the bow and just as I got to the edge to slide off a wave hit the boat and sent me flying... I landed feet first in an inch or so of water - felt just like hitting concrete. I crumpled and thought both my legs were broken -
The boat operator called his office to bring them a new battery - the boat wouldn't start - and also to bring an ace bandage for me - I put ice on my legs and we finally started back to Sandyport arriving at 6:30 PM or so. THe boat captain and his assistant carried me to our room and left - I took a pain pill or two or three - and my husband started calling to get a flight home - at no point in time did anyone mention taking me to a hospital or doctor but they all told me about when they broke their ankle - Jerome's story was particularly gruesome!!!
Anyways we had to wait till the next day to get out - but the phones started acting up and we called the front desk to see if they could make the call for us to the airline - she said no emphatically NOT - that was our problem and we could use a pay phone! My husband went to a pay phone and got our reservation out and also called for a cab to the airport - then we had to flag down the security guard on a golf cart to give me a ride to the front to the cab - you see I couldn't walk - He asked what happened and when I told him he asked if I could write down what happened - I did and that was the end of that - we got to the airport and flew home - my leg was broken as were all my toes on my right foot. I have another surgery scheduled for this coming Friday and if you were wondering if Sandyport or the boat operator has ever contacted me the answer is a resounding NOOOOOOO! Have I contacted them, YES - and that is my story - I also before I left asked to speak to either ANgela or the GM but neither one of them returned my calls -

Sandyport-----Totally Satisfied

from divedive2
After reading comments from Sandyport visitor's over the past year I really had serious concerns about doing to this resort.I'm a timeshare owner (Kona,Hi) and RCI member.I did not swap into Sandyport.....I purchased a week thru RCI---a 2nd floor one bedroom unit with jacuzzi with a shower bathroom and a half bath off the eating area---full kitchen--sitting area and a patio overlooking a canal lined with townhouses. The unit is a lock-off and the other part being a one and one half bedroom with a mini kitchen facing three pools -----a small cicular pool---a larger pool with two water slides and a third much much larger pool with one side sandy with a sandy entry....steps away is a lagoon swimming area with a sandy beach wit a little beach bar......the private beach is a 5 to 7 minute walk-----calm crystal clear waters with a reastaurant. The grounds are immuclate and the staff was very warm and friendly. We were very impressed with this resort and would return in a "heartbeat" and cannot understand for the life of me the negative comments------RCI list this property as a Gold Crown Property and it is exactly that. Ants-----saw a few and a squirt or two from the can of bug spray STOCKED IN THE UNIT took care of that situation.........We loved this resort.

Sandyport is a new and clean resort that is well worth the nightly rate. I stayed in a deluxe suite and it was very clean and roomy. The staff is extremely friendly. As a matter of fact, all the residents of Nassau are very friendly, polite, and courteous. The pool is not broken and the beach is clean, unlike what a previous review stated. I never saw any rats either. Overall it was above average. :)

Great place, Great Time

from A TripAdvisor Member
We did have some thoughts about staying after reading some of the reviews, but we travel extensively for work and know that opinions can be deceiving. I think that some people expect some form of five star hotel services for a low price. This is a good resort! Not a hotel, the rooms were nice, the pool is just great for all, and is kid friendly. The grounds were clean and well kept. The beach was fun and the only suggestion I would make to management would be to set some sun umbrellas out

We had a great time; the staff was friendly and always helpful. The gang at Coco Locos was a lot of fun and the food was good. Downtown is where the action is and it is a short bus ride ($2.00), taxis are expensive.

As a strong suggestion, take some good bug repellent, the “no-see-ums” at night when you are trying to enjoy a nice dinner at the beach, had us for desert.

Thanks to Evert Maks, and his staff for a great time. Hope to see you again.

t that bad

from A TripAdvisor Member
We just got back from a week at Sandyport and it wasn't that bad... it wasn't that great either. The people were nice and the weather was good. Out unit was pretty clean and served its purpose. It is nice and quiet as well. However, one day we had no water and for several days we had no a.c.! It got very hot. The ant problem that I have read so much about was no big deal - hardly saw any. The kids loved the pool and the slides - only one was working. There was way too much chlorine in the pool and it faded my bathing suit! Across the bridge in the mall area there is a great ice-cream place, a good restaurant and a great bar with a pool table - they were so nice there! I recommend a day trip to Atlantis - for $150 you get a room for the day and you get to use all the amenities - well worth it!

Nassau and Sandyport Beach Hotel -April 22-26 2005

Well, we loved everything about Nassua. The people were awesome-very friendly and helpful. My 2 sisters and my mom and I went (our first time together without kids) and we had a blast. We were there for 5 days --the weather was beautiful(very nice breeze). The hotel room had two queen beds, little kitchnette, and a sun porch. The room was very nice and the beds were very comfortable, the only problem was the air (was on the blink but we had a good breeze) and in the bathroom the pinhead ants(can't hardly see them). If you are very picky don't stay--we were just happy to be there. The hotel is in the older part of town but it was VERY QUIETand NOT CROWDED. WE WENT TO JOHNNY CANOES RESTAURANT ALMOST EVERYDAY-AWESOME FOOD AND PRICES(it is next to the Nassau Beach Hotel). Also across the road from the restaurant is a little straw market and the DAQUARI SHACK WITH AWESOME DAQUARI"s AND THE PRICE IS GREAT. The straw market was nice-some people were alittle pushy but most of them asked if they could help you and when you said "no thanks" they didn't bug you anymore. Their is a cool shop down the road called DEL SOL-the t-shirts change color in the sun. Hard Rock was very good to eat at. At JOHNNY CANOES THEY HAD AN AWESOME BAND AND IT WAS ALOT OF FUN. We went snorkeling with the sharks and the trip was WELL WORTH the $45 WITH STUARTS'S COVE. The guide was very nice and full of info. about the island. A VERY RELAXING TRIP ALL AROUND!!!!!!!!!!! WE WOULD GO BACK AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!

Just have two words...loved it....

I almost cancelled my trip to Sandyport because of all the reviews I had read about how bad it was. To my surprise, we had a wonderful time. The staff was extremely courteous, friendly and went out of their way to ensure that all our needs were met. We had a one bedroom apartment overlooking the lagoon, that was clean and did not smell (like a previous review). The only ants I saw were so tiny you could barely see them and that was on the kitchen counter. I read that you need to keep food away at all times (once we did that, no more ants). The pool was nice and well kept. Anytime we needed anything the staff was prompt to ensure that it was taken care of (one night the AC didn't seem cold enough and they came to fix it right away). With our stay at Sandy port (we were in a time share), we were able to use Bally's gym (a few steps away) for free all week. The #10 bus was the best. It runs until about 6pm and for a dollar will take you right into downtown Nassau for some great shopping. From there you can take a ferry for 3 bucks to paradise island and check out the beautiful Atlantis. At the end of the day, however, it was nice to come back to Sandyport, from the city and feel like your in this wonderfully sleepy little resort. It was so peaceful and relaxing. We would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a nice, peaceful vacation. You will love it here and we will return next year.

This is NOT a Gold Crown Resort!!! (not even close!)

Ants, ants, ants. I read a lot of reviews about ants in the units at Sandyport. Let me tell you, ants are the LEAST of this resort's problems!! I have never been at a resort where the staff was more rude, inefficient, and lazy. We spent 10 days (10 days too many) at Sandyport. The first three were in a "deluxe" suite and the remainder of the time we were in a time share unit with three bedrooms. In both units, the sheets on the sofa bed were disgustingly filthy. The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything going on in all the rooms around you. It seemed like there was absolutely no insulation in the walls at all. Our move to the second unit was horrible. We were promised a move-in time as soon as the room was clean. 3 hours after that promised time and several phone calls to the front desk later, we were able to move only after we watched the unit being cleaned and watched the maids leave an hour earlier. Still, we had to call the front desk (who snapped at me yet again) and inform them that it was clean as they had absolutely no intention of informing us or finding out for themselves that it was clean. In this unit, our stove didn't work, the refrigerator froze things, ants were everywhere (not just around food either), all the toilets ran non stop and the dishwasher not only didn't clean the dishes, it sprayed rust all over them so they were actually dirtier than they were when they went in! When all 3 showers were turned on for the first time, clay colored (red) water came out of them.

This resort boasts a pool bar and transportation services. The pool bar was overrun with creatures and didn't even have power running to it (looked like it hadn't been used in years) and when I asked about the transportation services, I was looked at like I was crazy and treated with the typical disrespect the front desk staff had displayed since we arrived. The beach is FILTHY and on the other side of the road. The lagoon beach stinks to high heaven and one of our guests stepped on a rusty nail on the beach (there was a pile of nails right by a cluster of chairs on the lagoon beach, which was also littered). There are not three pools, as the advertising suggests, there is one with two little offset pools. The pools were actually decent but the chairs were horrible - most of them broken.

I felt very unsafe walking by myself at night ... as a result of the "security staff." Around every dark corner you could find someone who was supposed to be working sitting there avoiding work and smoking god knows what. 9 out of 10 of them would make inappropriate comments to the women. "Security" .... uh huh. As a close second to the sketchy staff at Sandyport comes the HUGE rats lurking around the apartments. When I complained, I was told it was part of living on an island. Well, I've been to MANY islands and haven't seen rats at the resorts - I'm sure the rats flock to the seriously unkept resorts, however, like Sandyport. The so called shopping center across the way was deserted at all times and felt like a ghost town in a B rated horror film.

This resort is 100% falsely advertised and doesn't deserve to be an RCI resort, much less a gold crown resort. I will be contacting RCI to explain my experiences. Save yourself a miserable experience and avoid this resort like the plague until it changes management and becomes the resort it claims to be. It does have potential, but not only is it poorly run, it doesn't seem to be run at all!

Not that bad...really

from A TripAdvisor Member
Okay, I was nervous about his place after reading some of the negative ones, we booked thru hotels for 3 nites as we were moving to our main condo after that. Our check in was easy, but on the slow side. The phone rings all the time and there is only 1 person behind the counter. On the opposite counter, there are 3-4 people sitting around ignoring everybody. I realized that they must be the TIME SHARE people, who only care about ya if ya want a grand tour!! We got our room, except the hotel overbooked, big surprise, and we got downgraded to a smaller kitchenette 1 bedroom instead of a full living/kitchen area. Well I had already paid for the bigger room!! The woman was very nice and said I'll do what I can to compensate. She gave us a dinner voucher at their restaurant for $75 plus 6 $50 vouchers for the Sea Island Adventures cruise. Very fair! The room was fine, clean, in order but small. Not enough flatwear or bowls but we managed. We had a room over the pool and with 3 kids, it was their heaven!! We were swimming in no time. Cute little waterslides-but the water flowing is broken, and I don't believe anyone there is ever gonna fix it-they will spend hours looking and mulling over it tho. We hooked the hose up and sprayed it wet and off we were, the kids loved it.
The maid service was fine, they would never give the right amt of towels, but we used the pool ones, when avail. The ocean was a little and safe walk and quite beautiful-tons of shells and sea glass-breezes-waves-snorkeling, and the color melts your heart and stress away.
Pros: Great kids pools, sand, restaurant,beach-employees very friendly
Cons: Tiny ants in the rooms, towels, broken waterslides, pools not heated, service for the restaurant is horribly long-tip is included in the bill, need better front desk assistance for tours.
We did run into quite a few RCI owners who came for the week and were very upset! Good luck!!

This resort completely exceeded my expectations. The staff was friendly and helpful, the restaurant food was great(try the wood burning stove pizza),our room was spotless and practical AND theres even a health food store on the premises . I loved it! Theres also a bus that stops by the hotel (all day till 7pm) which will drive you right down. What more could you want?

Top Local Tips for Nassau

Extremely poor service I travel for work and know the importance of service. In seven days I had 3 meals were I would class the service as acceptable or better. I did find the Atlantis resort to be an excellent place, but it is more like Vegas than anything else. I would have trouble recommending New Providence as a destination to anyone.

Try the Fish Fry for a good meal of local cuisine There is a small area called "the fish fry" which is a group of about 15 local restaurants. It is extremely informal and you can just walk down the row of places and pick one out. Good local cooking. It is easy to get to, between Cable Beach and downtown. Any cab driver will know where it is.
