The beach was wonderful, the grounds were very nice, the pool was terrific, and the restaurant was pretty good. The staff was very helpful when we needed information about transportation, places to go, etc. Stay away from the game room - it smells and is not very nice.
We will definitely return to Sandyport. It is a very nice, quiet, family type place. If you want 5 star vacation places, pay the money and go somewhere else. If you want a beautiful, clean, friendly resort - visit Sandyport

MY worst vacation ever!!!!!
from A TripAdvisor MemberOur flight to Bahamas was smooth as silk and we arrived at Sandyport on Saturday Oct. 2, 2004. First thing the rude desk clerk said to us was the condo was not ready - But we were ok with that, Not a problem for us. Wwe went to lunch and walked around the grounds returning a couple of hours later - ROom was still not ready -
Mind you there had been a couple of hurricanes in the weeks before we arrived and no guests had been there - the resort had been closed for close to 2 weeks - 5 pm still not ready- What could they be doing??? Now we are among quite a few people that are waiting for their rooms and in the next room where we are all sacked out they are selling new timeshares to other unsupecting tourists!!! Plying them with drinks and food but nothing was offered to us!
We finally got into the room - for spending all that time cleaning - it wasn't!!!
But what the heck, we were finally here!! I called the front desk to ask about bottled water and was told If you want water come up here and get it. There are ways to speak and this was not the way - Courtesy lessons could have been used by this clerk - nothing she said was said politely -
But back to Sandyport, We had been told when we bought our timeshare that the boat "Bayrunner" belonged to Sandyport and was a great trip to take - so we went to the recreation desk and made reservations through Jerome to take the Wednesday trip....
On Tuesday we had a nice meeting with Angela (she handles Complaints and training) and also with the Resorts new General Manager - We told them about the wait for the room, staff rudeness, the lack of cleanliness of the room, ect... Guess what, we were not the only ones to be invited to this type of session!!
Wednesday morning and we were off on our boat trip - Snorkling with the sharks and at another tropical site then lunch on a little inlet - there were approximately 18 people on board. Everyone was drinking rum punch with the exception of myself and a teenage boy. We drank diet pepsi and bottled water. The trip started late had to wait for some friends of Jerome's to arrive and then we made a side trip to get gas at another marina and because the boat was running so raggedly one of the other boat owners at this marina took a look at the engine and did a quick tune up. THen we were finally off to snorkle...these were two of the best sites I have ever snorkled... At 3:20 PM we finally got to the lunch spot. The boat driver pulled the boat up to shore and started exiting people off the front of the boat - two people got off before me and then it was my turn - I step up on the bow and just as I got to the edge to slide off a wave hit the boat and sent me flying... I landed feet first in an inch or so of water - felt just like hitting concrete. I crumpled and thought both my legs were broken -
The boat operator called his office to bring them a new battery - the boat wouldn't start - and also to bring an ace bandage for me - I put ice on my legs and we finally started back to Sandyport arriving at 6:30 PM or so. THe boat captain and his assistant carried me to our room and left - I took a pain pill or two or three - and my husband started calling to get a flight home - at no point in time did anyone mention taking me to a hospital or doctor but they all told me about when they broke their ankle - Jerome's story was particularly gruesome!!!
Anyways we had to wait till the next day to get out - but the phones started acting up and we called the front desk to see if they could make the call for us to the airline - she said no emphatically NOT - that was our problem and we could use a pay phone! My husband went to a pay phone and got our reservation out and also called for a cab to the airport - then we had to flag down the security guard on a golf cart to give me a ride to the front to the cab - you see I couldn't walk - He asked what happened and when I told him he asked if I could write down what happened - I did and that was the end of that - we got to the airport and flew home - my leg was broken as were all my toes on my right foot. I have another surgery scheduled for this coming Friday and if you were wondering if Sandyport or the boat operator has ever contacted me the answer is a resounding NOOOOOOO! Have I contacted them, YES - and that is my story - I also before I left asked to speak to either ANgela or the GM but neither one of them returned my calls -

Great place, Great Time
from A TripAdvisor MemberWe had a great time; the staff was friendly and always helpful. The gang at Coco Locos was a lot of fun and the food was good. Downtown is where the action is and it is a short bus ride ($2.00), taxis are expensive.
As a strong suggestion, take some good bug repellent, the “no-see-ums” at night when you are trying to enjoy a nice dinner at the beach, had us for desert.
Thanks to Evert Maks, and his staff for a great time. Hope to see you again.

t that bad
from A TripAdvisor MemberNassau and Sandyport Beach Hotel -April 22-26 2005
from A TripAdvisor MemberJust have two words...loved it....
from A TripAdvisor MemberThis is NOT a Gold Crown Resort!!! (not even close!)
from A TripAdvisor MemberThis resort boasts a pool bar and transportation services. The pool bar was overrun with creatures and didn't even have power running to it (looked like it hadn't been used in years) and when I asked about the transportation services, I was looked at like I was crazy and treated with the typical disrespect the front desk staff had displayed since we arrived. The beach is FILTHY and on the other side of the road. The lagoon beach stinks to high heaven and one of our guests stepped on a rusty nail on the beach (there was a pile of nails right by a cluster of chairs on the lagoon beach, which was also littered). There are not three pools, as the advertising suggests, there is one with two little offset pools. The pools were actually decent but the chairs were horrible - most of them broken.
I felt very unsafe walking by myself at night ... as a result of the "security staff." Around every dark corner you could find someone who was supposed to be working sitting there avoiding work and smoking god knows what. 9 out of 10 of them would make inappropriate comments to the women. "Security" .... uh huh. As a close second to the sketchy staff at Sandyport comes the HUGE rats lurking around the apartments. When I complained, I was told it was part of living on an island. Well, I've been to MANY islands and haven't seen rats at the resorts - I'm sure the rats flock to the seriously unkept resorts, however, like Sandyport. The so called shopping center across the way was deserted at all times and felt like a ghost town in a B rated horror film.
This resort is 100% falsely advertised and doesn't deserve to be an RCI resort, much less a gold crown resort. I will be contacting RCI to explain my experiences. Save yourself a miserable experience and avoid this resort like the plague until it changes management and becomes the resort it claims to be. It does have potential, but not only is it poorly run, it doesn't seem to be run at all!
Not that bad...really
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe maid service was fine, they would never give the right amt of towels, but we used the pool ones, when avail. The ocean was a little and safe walk and quite beautiful-tons of shells and sea glass-breezes-waves-snorkeling, and the color melts your heart and stress away.
Pros: Great kids pools, sand, restaurant,beach-employees very friendly
Cons: Tiny ants in the rooms, towels, broken waterslides, pools not heated, service for the restaurant is horribly long-tip is included in the bill, need better front desk assistance for tours.
We did run into quite a few RCI owners who came for the week and were very upset! Good luck!!
AWESOME!

Extremely poor service I travel for work and know the importance of service. In seven days I had 3 meals were I would class the service as acceptable or better. I did find the Atlantis resort to be an excellent place, but it is more like Vegas than anything else. I would have trouble recommending New Providence as a destination to anyone.
Try the Fish Fry for a good meal of local cuisine There is a small area called "the fish fry" which is a group of about 15 local restaurants. It is extremely informal and you can just walk down the row of places and pick one out. Good local cooking. It is easy to get to, between Cable Beach and downtown. Any cab driver will know where it is.

The best thing about this resort is the staff - always eager to please and willing to make guests stay as comfortable as possible. The grounds are very beautiful and very clean, not much to do at the resort. The Marina side offers an exquisiste view and the beach was breath-taking as well! On the grounds is a small store which was great for things like Soda, water and liquor and other fine things.
The resort offer a complimentary shuttle service on Sundays only to the grocery store which is a 10 minutes walk away or $1.25 bus fare. The store - Super Value is great and prices are about the same as New York's so no need to fetch stuff - we bought many things.
We went out on tours everyday to keep busy.We went to the Fish Fry area and downtown area as well and ate. We took the #10 bus which was cheaper than a taxi. Downtown area also has a grocery store by the Burger King and the prices are great as well so if you are staying at any resport, you can go and shop there as well.
All the action seems to be at downtown and at Paradise Island. We went to Paradise Island two days. We also went on the Island World tour and it was an excellent trip - great experience, lots to eat and drink too! It is a bit costly but worth it.
People are very friendly and quite helpful - just be careful but overall security is good.
This resort is not for you if you want a 5 star treatment. If you value peace, quiet, serenity and not crowded place, then this is the place for you - close to stores, airport and many other sightseeing facilities. Overall, i did enjoy my stay admist the few mishaps. However, if i do go back to the Bahamas, i will go and stay on Paradise Island. I hope this helps the next traveller.
