Beautiful grounds, but...

We spent three nights at Compass Point, The place is very quaint, with multi colored cabanas and beautifully maintained grounds. But there were some unexpected "problems" with the cabana itself. The huge bed is so high you need to climb on your suitcase to get on it. Ours was a king and it was sagging on both sides. The windows have no glass panes, just louvered shutters and mosquito screens. You cannot shut out the noise of the planes as the hotel is very close to the airport, and in March it gets rather cool at night and it's very windy, so again you cannot "close' the windows. The funny thing is that the bathroom, tiny as it it for one person to be in, has 4 big windows, three in the tiny shower stall! And yes, they have no glass either, just wooden slats louvers. Why on earth would a shower stall have 3 windows in place of walls?
The restaurant food was just ok. In the afternoon, the chef starts preparing dinner and the smell of rancid oil permeates the whole pool area. Not pleasant. The hotel itself is far away from the center of town and you have to wait a long time for the little bus to arrive. And even though the rooms have a small fridge and a microwave, there is not one foor store in the hotel area.
The hotel staff is very nice and friendly and the whole place is very clean.

Compass point is beautiful,clean and has a friendly staff. The seaview huts are nice but a tad rustic...just a little. Ive traveled alot and am use to fine dining. The food was not good..we tried 3 dinners and were disappointed in all. Breakfast menu is limited..no oatmeal, fresh fruit not very good. Bagels look like lenders.....I was not at all impressed with any of the food. Also I was disappointed that there were no beach chairs..that would have been nice. we had 5 days at atlantis and then 5 days at compass. I would not return although it was a beautiful, serene setting..stunning.

This is the second year that I stayed at compass point and dove with Ocean Frontiers and it was just as great as the first year.

Staying at Compass Point and diving with OF over multiple days is the absolute best because you get more of the pampered, spa-like treatment. The staff are incredibly knowledgable and they work their butts off for you. I have no idea how I'll make it back in the real world now that I know "the good life."

You wake up to a beautiful sunrise coming up over the ocean (all ocean-front rooms), make some breakfast, walk to the boat, and you're on your way. All you have to do is analyze your tanks (if diving nitrox) and put your wetsuit on and you're ready to dive. At the end of the dive day, put your stuff in a basket and walk off the boat. They take your basket off the boat, rinse everything, hang it dry, and lock it up for the night. So relaxing it's not even funny. You don't have to do a thing. You almost feel guilty.

I like staying at compass point because I only have to get up, walk to the boat, and dive. The condos are well-kept, furnished well, pretty new, and comfy for a nice, relaxing dive trip. I can't imagine staying anywhere else.

Did I mention how great the staff are?

I will be back there, of course.

Wonderful, Relaxing Compass Point

Compass Point is delightfully down-to-earth while providing the highest level of service and dining. My fiancé and I eloped to Compass Point and were married on their private pier by Matthew Sweeting, aka, the Island Preacha! Skip and Linda Scully who manage the hotel and restaurant, were incredibly helpful, and the hotel staff were great too, especially Kieshla, who runs the front desk!

The accommodations were fun, spotlessly clean and charming. The veranda of our cheerful, large, eight-sided cabana looked directly out to the ocean. We kept the French doors to the veranda open all night to enjoy the sound of the surf. The cabana decor was just perfect with lots of wood and a very comfortable king size bed!

We felt a world away from everything during our visit. If we didn't have to go into Nassau for our marriage license, we'd never have left the property. The grounds of the property are beautifully landscaped and enhance the feeling of residing in a private enclave. There's a great swimming pool, a hot soaking pool, several protected ocean swimming areas and Love Beach; definitely plenty to satisfy any desire for beachy recreation.

Dining was a delicious and relaxing experience. The food at the restaurant offered good value and a great selection of Bahamian dishes, steaks, seafood, sandwiches and snacks. And talk about room service! We could order anything from the menu at any time! Breakfast, lunch and dinner were always available!

If you want to get away from it all, go now and enjoy the warm hospitality of Compass Point!

Worth the extra money. Great views, unique layout, not crowded, very friendly & helpful staff (which we generally did not find elsewhere in Nassau), all the amenities and then some (flat screen TVs, free DVDs, tiny kitchenette).

What a fantastic spot! We spent five glorious days at compass point and can't wait to come back. Compass Point has some of the most beautiful views on the isalnd and all you need to do is step outside your room. The pool area was a perfect spot to just relax and layout at and the hottub right next to the beach, was ideal after a quick dip in the ocean. It only takes a second to get to Love Beach and you can walk miles and not see anyone, it feels as if you've got your own private paradise. The snorkeling right off the dock and love beach is also quite good. It's extremely easy to get to other spots on the island, you can take a taxi, or for only a buck, the #10 jitney which will get you to cable beach or downtown Nassau. In hindsight I would've never left compass point. We actually went out to a place in Sandyport (10min away) and was so disappointed with the food that when we got back to Compass Point we had our second dinner. The restaurant and bar at Compass point were excellent. Great food, drinks and the staff was a treat. The bar area has several plasma TVs so I never missed any basketball games during my stay. I couldn't imagine a better spot to watch sports. Outside, 10ft from the ocean, 50in plasma with an ice cold Kalik beer. The rooms were lovely also. Air conditioning, soft beds, flat screen TV, dvd player ( the hotel has a nice selection you can borrow), kitchenette, large shower and Aveda products. All in All, Compass point exceeded our expectations in every way and we can't wait to return.

Compass Point leads you to a great vacation

Our stay at Compass Point was truly a romantic, tropical, vacation. The newly renovated property was beautiful. Bright and colorful on the outside but calming and soothing in the bungalo with white-washed walls and shiny hard wood floors. Our charming cottage had an upstairs and downstairs porch. The downstairs porch featured an outdoor kitchen and picnic table. Both our room and porch overlooked the ocean with a seculed white sand beach only steps away.

The beauty of the retreat was only exceeded by the staff and service. Linda and Skip Scully, the new management team,that oversaw the remodeling and reopening, provided service beyond expectations.

The courtesy the staff showed to our needs, even buying batteries for our stereo, then not charge us when I told them the wrong size, was in one word-"amazing."

Linda Scully and staff even set up and took photos for us in a marriage renewal ceremony.

After the event, we dined in the resort's gourmet restaurant.
The meal was perfect. What a great chef!

From the bartenders to the maid, everyone was so friendly and made us feel part of their family.

We are very experienced world travelers. We are also very discerning travelers, and would rate our stay at the Compass Point, as one of the best experiences we have ever had.

Great for plane spotters!

Apart from the fact it is located at the end of the island runway and you get takeoffs/landings from 7am thro 11pm it ain't a bad place - if you were paying $200 a night and not over $400!!!!

The huts are brightly coloured and the staff are great. The bar and restaurant are full of locals which is a major positive.

Rooms are spacious apart from the bathroom which appears to have been tacked on at the last minute and are minute. Ours had just a sink, toilet and shower which is not the 'full' bathroom advertised on the net.

As mentioned before no glasses, yes Aveda products but trial size and no shower gel.

AND use bug spray as I got 60+ bites in one evening sitting on the balcony and I kid you not - photos available on request.

All in all a 3* experience for a 6* price!

I have never seen such beauty before!! We stayed in a seafront hut and it was amazing!! The view, the food, the staff, and the owners as well could not have been nicer! Everyone made you feel that you belonged there. They also have an on site spa which was a perfect way to end our vaca....she did a fabulous job! I was beyond sad when it was time to go. I would recommend this place to everyone! I'll be coming back for sure!!!

We didn't get a chance to stay at Compass Point, but stayed near by and will probably stay there if we ever return to New Providence. We went to dinner at CP and attended the Super Bowl Party. The hosts were very friendly and let us tour the property and we were very impressed with the appearance of everything. I read another review that said CP didn't have a hot tub but there was a lovely one just above the beach. The food is good and the beach/pool area looked wonderful. Sorry, I can't tell you anything about the rooms, but the dining and outdoor facilities are great! I would recommend getting a car for at least part of your trip if you stay on this side of the island so you can explore a little.

Top Local Tips for Nassau

be prepared for very long lines When returning home, come to the airport at least three hours prior, as the security check is a nightmare. Unlike the rest of the world, the Nassau airport check in counter will not take your luggage as you check in. You have to wheel your suitcases with you through 3 check points, standing in very,very long lines that loop outside of the airport, before boarding.

Rip Off Our taxi ride to (and back) fromn Compass Point was HAIRAISING! John was a speed demon and it was especially disconcerting driving on theLEFT!

Be patient with local buses The bus is a great way to get around inexpensively, it's only a $1. But it does not come to Compass Point very frequently and it can be tough to get the bus to take you all the way back. Be patient or think about taking a cab!
