Had we been able to book a room last week we would have been there again (stayed as hotel guest in 4/04) but we did witness, once again, impeccable service and sincere caring of the staff both at three dinners and a wedding over the past week-end. Having stayed at very exclusive resorts we can honestly say that with attention to detail, decor, comfort and service The Rock House rates the best. They don't miss a thing. Being a small and intimate hotel with gorgeous views of the bay the common spaces are like being the guest of royalty yet you are treated as good friends. The bedrooms are luxurious and serene with all the amenities you would desire with good water pressure to boot! Remember, this IS an island! The food is sophisticated and delicious-complete with beautiful presentation. The staff and owners are friendly, gracious and accommodating. We could not think of one drawback or complaint. The place is perfect and we are back in December with bells on.

Luxury and peace

The food was awesome - !! The rooms are peaceful and well appointed. This spot makes for the perfect quiet getaway spot. Want a romantic place to go to - this is it - chill out by the secluded pool in between enjoying all the Island has to offer such as diving and fishing and the beautiful beach.
The owners make you feel at home and the staff were friendly, attentive and great at their job. We will go back to this hotel!

The food S-----!!!

We had dinner for 2 last night & it was atrocious--I had better food at a rib shack called Bertha's & at a late-night joint called Nappy's. The bill came to nearly $170! By 8pm they were out of the only edible-sounding item on the menu (the tuna) & the so-called pork medallions I was forced to order by default tasted like no pig I've ever eaten. Eat at The Landing instead!

The Place to Stay

We had the privilege of staying at the Rock House this past January/February for 10 days. It is impossible not to fall in love with Harbour Island while staying there. The owners – Wallace and Don – work constantly to make sure that your every need is met. They not only want you to have the best time possible at their hotel, but they also work very hard to make sure that you enjoy all that Harbour Island has to offer. The staff is friendly and overly accommodating. Our hotel room was well appointed and very comfortable. The food served at the restaurant was wonderful. The pool is gorgeous and provides you with an excellent alternative to the beautiful beach that is only a few blocks away. In short, Wallace and Don have thought of everything to ensure that you won't be disappointed with your Harbour Island vacation, if you stay with them. We truly believe that the Rock House is without equal on Harbour Island and we can't wait to go back. LJ&M

Stylish villa living!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Staying at The Rock House is like staying at a good friend's private villa in the Caribbean. You can choose to lounge by the stylish pool, sipping a rum drink, listening to Jimmy Buffet and chatting with the ever-attentive owners (Wallace and Don), or you can sneak off into one of the many private bamboo bungalows, shut the curtain and enjoy uninterrupted privacy. While past reviewers have complained about noisy rooms, each night the restaurant and bar closes at 10pm sharp without exception and the place falls dead silent, and every morning the owners wait until the very last guest has awoken before turning on the music. In short, the surroundings are stylish, immaculate and luxuriously comfortable, the location is fantastic (westward facing for beautiful sunsets, center of town, lovely 5 minute walk to the famous silky pink sand beach), food is divine (crabcakes are to die for), and the owners and staff are warm and personable - by the end of your stay they make you feel like you are old friends dropping in for a visit!

Much Ado About Something

Whatever you do, don't plan a birthday weekend at the Rock House. The owners and managers, Wallace and Don, seem more interested in socializing and impressing their friends than in taking care of hotel guests. The rooms are tasteful but noisy, and the service is minimal, sometimes nonexistent. god forbid you should want a snack or sandwich between meals, or a drink or snack after ten at night. the food is adequate, but with the Landing next door, which has the best food on the island, its hard to justify dining at the Rock House, which is wildly overrated and overpriced. the hosts are very attentive when trying to push a drink on you, but otherwise not very accomodating. after having rented out the whole place for my birthday, i was astonished to find out i couldn't order a cup of coffee in the morning without paying for the continental breakfast (much better breakfasts to be had at arthur's bakery and at the blue bar. at least they have fresh orange juice). internet services are spotty (they seem to work everywhere else on the island), there is no cell service, and phone calls to the mainland cost five dollars a minute, even when you are using your AT&T card. as my friend said, when he requested an iron and was told that was not possible, "i get better amenities at Motel 6". the owners might want to check out a hotelier school if they want to make it long term. charm and decor only get you so far.

Your Wish is Their Command...

Here's the deal. If you stay at the Rock House you will be treated like Royalty. And that's because the owners are from the Old School -- meaning they know what service is. They know what hospitality is. They know how to make guests feel at home, at ease, surrounded by unostentatious luxury. You won't get lost at The Rock House. They know you by name. They know your mother's name. They remember your favorite drink whether it be a customized protein shake at 6:00 AM or a seven-and- a-half olive martini at 6:00 PM-- they remember you. This hotel is all about Service the old fashioned way. It doesn't hurt one bit that the owners are 100% southern and 100% easy on the eyes. Please don't pass this one up. And when you are there, best you indulge in a piece of Eva Lorraine's Rum cake that she makes exclusively for this hotel.

Class boutique hotel friendly staff

If you are lucky enough to discover Harbour Island, you will be doubley blessed when you discover the Rock House. Wallis and Don, owners, have an incredible eye for detail from food to the beautifully designed bedrooms. The food is the best on the island and the staff most friendly. The feeling of being a guest in an estate is yours. Nothing pretentious. Elegant, yet beach. Spending my honeymoon there was a treat. Honeymooners to familys enjoy this property, and all co-habitate peacefully.

Rock House review. Simply divine.

My wife and I returned from our trip to Harbour Island on Dec 22nd. We were very fortunate that we stayed at the Rock House. From the moment you walk in till the second we left we felt like we were in heaven. The two owners Don and Wallace were the best hosts that you could imagine. It felt like we were staying at someones home.... a very nice home. The staff were freindly and the food was awesome. I can't say enough about this slice of heaven. These guys really know how to run a top notch boutique hotel. The ride home in a G4 wasn't so back either! HA a story for another day.

Cheers.

We have just returned from our best holiday ever at the Rock House. From the minute you enter this beautiful boutique style hotel, you are welcomed personally by the Management whose only goal it seems is to make you feel utterly at home. With its immaculate setting overlooking the bay, it is hard to believe that you are staying in a hotel and not a private villa. The attention to detail is amazing from the beautiful orchids in the room to the welcoming drawing room, elegant bar and the restful pool area. There are many large luxurious hotels in the Caribbean where the facilities are beautiful but the Rock House knocks spots off them by concentrating on the service too. The staff are all so helpful and unlike other hotels, it appears they really enjoy looking after their guests and their ability to make you feel so at home is a real credit to them. You will not come back to your room at lunchtime and find it unmade. The minute you leave in the morning, it is as though a phantom team of helpers swoop in to restore your untidiness to perfection!

This is the perfect location for a peaceful and relaxing getaway. No loud tourists intent on making sure they are the only ones to enjoy themselves. This is an elegant resort and long may it continue to be so. Granted you may come home a few pounds heavier from the fabulous food which is far and above the best on the island, but that would be the closest you would come to having any kind of grumble about the place.

Top Local Tips for Harbour Island

FLY rather than FERRY I recommend that you take a small plane over to North Eleuthra rather than take the ferry from Paradise Island. It is the same price, and much faster!

Great cooking FRESH LOCAL SEAFOOD Try Baretta's when their band is playing. Fabulous professional trumpet and guitar. This is the only place we could find with unfrozen fresh crawfish (local lobster). Large portions, New Orleans style sauces available. We loved the snapper and lobster thermidor. Best meal we have had in the Bahamas!

A great menu Be prepared for a fine meal every evening
